Blogger Hiccup

Blogger seems to be pouting about something or other and won't let me post comments on anyone else's blogs.  I am reading your blogs and enjoying your blogs.  I just, at the moment, can't tell you about it with comments.  And darn it.  I had a couple of really good ones, too!

I hope this case of Blogger Hiccups is cured soon.

  1. Okay then. Let's see if I can leave a comment here. Everyone is having troubles and there is one blog I love, but lately it appears as if it's in a foreign language that I recognize as Arabic!!

Is there anywhere on your blog where you mentioned your bread recipe?

  2. lotta joy...I've been getting all sorts of spam in Chinese. I just delete them. Here's the bread recipe. I use it for loaves, buns, cinnamon rolls, everything. It's the best bread recipe I've ever found - better than Mom's!

    Amish Loaf Bread

    2 cups warm water
    scant 2/3 cup granulated sugar
    2 packets yeast
    1 - 1/2 teaspoons salt
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    5 - 1/2 cups flour

In large glass bowl dissolve sugar in the warm water and stir in yeast. Allow to proof about 5-10 minutes. Mix in salt and oil to the yeast. Mix in flour 1 cup at a time. When dough has formed a ball, knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth, about 5-10 minutes.
Place dough in greased bowl and turn to coat surface of dough. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap in a warm area. Allow to rise until it has doubled in bulk.
Knead dough lightly and divide in half. Shape into loaves and place into two well oiled 9 x 5-inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven for 5 minutes at 350 degrees F, and bake for 30 minutes or until top is golden brown.
Let bread sit for at least 15-30 minutes after it comes out of oven to finish setting up.

  4. Thanks, Harry. For the last couple of days it has been taking me a couple of tries just to post replies to comments here. Nice to know it's not just me having problems. Hope they fix it soon.

  6. Thanks, Rob. Yeah, I was looking at the weather radar this morning. Don't put away your flippers and snorkel just yet. Can you imagine how much snow we would have by now if this was January instead of June? At least you don't have to shovel rain. :)

  7. 1/10 inch of rain = 1" of snow so yea. You are on the second floor you could walk right out the window. Folks would go trucken bonkers fast.

  8. THANK YOU for the recipe. It's different from the one I use, so I can't WAIT TO DO IT TODAY!!!! I'm also going to make Naan bread, and it's going to be in the 90's.

I'll make it after the sun goes down, that's for sure.

  9. lotta joy...You are welcome. I've been baking bread for over 50 years (Geez - I AM old!) and this recipe turns out better than any other I have used. Most times it seems that homemade bread tends to dry out quickly. I live alone, so a loaf will last me a few days, and this stays soft until I finish the loaf. When a loaf has finished baking, I don't leave it in the pan like the recipe says, but plop it right onto a cooling rack, slather butter all over the outside for a soft crust, and let it cool. Hope it works for you.

  10. Rob...I don't know if you are old enough to remember, but back in maybe the 60's we used to get snow almost like that. Somewhere (I don't have it but maybe one of my kids does.) there is a picture of my kid's Dad standing on top of a snow drift, leaning his arm on the TOP of a telephone pole. Me...I'll take the rain!

  12. Vicki - Whenever ai have a Blogger problem and check out if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. If so I add my details. If not, then I start a new thread.

The only way that Blogger knows I have / there is a problem is if it's reported. I keep checking back on the forum until Nitecruz answers someone - then I know Blogger is working on it :)
