The evaluation went well and I find I am qualified for help in dealing with my leg issues and for once a week cleaning services. It takes about three weeks to set it all up, but after that I think life will be a bit easier. It still rankles that I need help at all, but as long as I can still function in all other areas, I am satisfied.Vickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09409645438732452330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-75953514795616239042017-10-10T00:12:49.184-05:002017-10-10T00:12:49.184-05:00SJ...It is a bit of a relief to find I qualify for...SJ...It is a bit of a relief to find I qualify for the services I need. There are a variety of services available to me like Meals on Wheels and transportation services, but I opted for health care in dealing with my legs and once a week cleaning services. As long as I can still manage the rest, I prefer to do so. I guess I don't want to give up any more of my independence than I absolutely have to.
You are right about it being hard to even ask for help, but I think that once I get into the routine of having someone come in to deal with those things that are the most difficult for me, it will make life a bit easier. There is a cost involved, but it is based on income and is minimal and won't wreck my budget, which is a good thing.

I think that for both you and me, that slow and steady thing has been irritating. But I guess I would much rather have to slow down than to not be able to do anything at all.

There is just a hint of the coming winter in the night air. We are expecting the first frost of the year tonight. I don't mind winter so much when I can view it from my window, inside my apartment, where it is cozy and warm. I am such a wimp. :)Vickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09409645438732452330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-3093809276105313102017-10-09T17:22:20.694-05:002017-10-09T17:22:20.694-05:00Good to hear from you! When I was first sick, I had to use a cleaning service for a few months. I also had to send my laundry out and get some friends to walk my dog. It's not easy asking for help - at least it's not easy for me. I've shared this before, I think -- the best part of using the cleaning service was to get them to change my sheets.
I've taken a few days off the internet so just now reading this post. I, too, have to approach projects differently these days. Putting my gardens to bed is the immediate example. It took me three days to get one garden space ready for winter. In the past I would have just 'gotten it done' and worked until the task was completed. Now, I'm lucky to get an hour in before I head for home. Slow and steady is the name of the game now.
Take care of yourself.
SJAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-12213205786226782322017-10-09T13:17:33.011-05:002017-10-09T13:17:33.011-05:00Thanks for the tips, Deb. I have little of any value as I divided most of that between my kids at the time of my husband's death. But I will keep an eye on whoever comes here and make sure nothing is lying about to tempt anyone. I appreciate your concern.

I would have done the same if my aging parent was at risk due to unreliable people. There are many who want the paycheck but don't want to earn it. I suppose it comes from my mother who, each fall, made sure all the summer bedding and the throw rugs were washed and line dried as well as the scrubbing down of cupboards, walls, etc. I don't do all of that any more, but like to at least get the general cleaning and organizing done so I can play with yarn and fabrics all winter without feeling guilty. :)

Wow - you have been busy! Good on you. I have put the food preservation on Hold for now until the rest of this is completed. I hope to get some applesauce canned later along with more hamburger and bacon bits.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I have hope the evaluation will result in some solutions to problems. I am sort of an ornery critter, so part of it will depend on the number and type of hoops I am expected to jump through. You are absolutely right about accepting that as we age we may need help. That part has been harder for me to deal with than the physical limitations. I appreciate your kind words and prayers. I call it "nesting syndrome" and it hits me every autumn whether I'm ready for it or not. This past week I have been canning applesauce and tomatoes. I bought 4 lbs. of button mushrooms (SUPER sale priced) and dehydrated them for this winter. I shredded lots of zucchini and will be making bread and muffins tomorrow. Glad you are busy and making so much progress. Hope all goes well with the home visit and evaluation. It's
not easy accepting the fact that we can't do everything on our own as we get older. I will include you in my prayers. Thank you for the update letting us know you are busy and well. CWfromIowaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
