Don't think a few scraps will kill them. I wouldn't even consider feeding them only leftovers. They will get them only now and then and their regular food the rest of the time. Kind of like a treat. When no people food was forthcoming this morning, they dug into their kibble...no problem.

My Dad used to give his dogs a treat of a couple of slices of bread torn into bits with a little bacon grease poured over the top. People did things a lot differently when they knew their dogs were dogs and not human.Vickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09409645438732452330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-52810023503015661772014-06-19T11:18:28.012-05:002014-06-19T11:18:28.012-05:00I was raised around hounds, and hounds will eat ca...I was raised around hounds, and hounds will eat cardboard if it's been fried next to beef. lol

Vets say if they get used to people food they won't eat their own food. Their dry food is always available to them, for both are nibblers as opposed to eating a bowl full once a day. Their homemade food consists of rice, vegetables and meat, so eating leftovers isn't all that much different. Considering what is in commercial dog food, I'm not so sure that people food isn't at least as good for them and maybe better.Vickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09409645438732452330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-26442763327011492032014-06-18T23:34:43.812-05:002014-06-18T23:34:43.812-05:00The problem is that people food isn't always t...The problem is that people food isn't always the best for dogs, but they get to where they want nothing else.Gorges Smythehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08777621500611603786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-81347368398389085532014-06-18T22:31:54.989-05:002014-06-18T22:31:54.989-05:00Harry...These two were given to me by a breeder wh...Harry...These two were given to me by a breeder who was fussy about their diet. Kinda had me scared about what to feed them. But I remembered that they are dogs - not children - and scraps or leftovers never hurt any other dogs I have had. These are no different - just smaller. With food prices soaring, I can't afford to throw anything away, so it just makes sense to feed what I don't eat to the dogs.Vickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09409645438732452330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-6141954121751087932014-06-18T21:50:52.080-05:002014-06-18T21:50:52.080-05:00My dogs have always eaten left overs. I've tried canned dog food, but both get sick from it, and the leftovers seemed to agree with them, so leftovers it is. They love it and it saves me from having to clean out nasty things from the back of my fridge when leftovers don't get eaten right away. Win-win.Vickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09409645438732452330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-86128767619835893642014-06-18T20:42:51.139-05:002014-06-18T20:42:51.139-05:00I had a vet tell me to try different foods on an o...I had a vet tell me to try different foods on an old dog; including potatoes, vegetables and some table scraps.

I don't know if it prolonged his life, but he ate better and his joy of eating "people food" made me smile.Jesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15969361446367636746noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6292915201767940326.post-17750517352980929132014-06-18T20:00:52.333-05:002014-06-18T20:00:52.333-05:00Jess...Well, then I guess I have created monsters....Jess...Well, then I guess I have created monsters.
