Rain, Rain, Go Away

Doesn't look like it will any time soon.  By the time this band of rain that starts in south Texas and is working its way north through Minnesota has come and gone, I predict the building of at least one ark.  My sympathies today are with my sons - one of whom spends many of his days driving all over the metro area, checking on the properties his company services with lawn care and landscaping and the other who is, as I write, out in the rain, playing in the mud, either loading trucks with his forklift or moving pallets of soil and mulch from one place to another.  They don't complain.  They are employed.

I don't care what the skeptics say.  Anyone with even a hint of arthritis in various joints of the body will swear that rain equals pain.  Therefore, you will find me over in that recliner in the corner, coffee mug on the table next to me, Kindle in hand, covered toes to chin in my green, fuzzy blanket.  Most times I will work my way through it, but just for today I believe I will take the easier road and rest.  This aging thing is a bugger sometimes.

  1. Amen sister to staying indoors. My dad and I both worked at the airport which meant indoors and out. Did we complain a little?? YES !! its in every Minnesotans DNA.
Thank the snow gods the rain didn't turn to snow or we would all be going nowhere anytime soon.

  2. Rob...Yep. It is every Minnesotan's God-given right to moan and groan about the weather. And we do it so well, too! :)

  3. Vicki, had to laugh as I am reading this sitting on my recliner and toes bundled in a fleece throw. It is pouring here with high winds - wet even for us. The dog and I wondered around for a walk earlier but came home rather quickly today. I'm now hunkered down and,oh so thankful, I do not have to go out for the rest of the day.

  4. SJ...Yep. That's funny. Great minds think alike and all that. :) It isn't that it is so cold here, for the temp this afternoon is 52 degrees and the wind is only 10 mph. And the rain isn't a constant downpour, but just that off and on kind of rain. But it is one of those days where the damp settles into the bones and stays there. I have to admit that I am enjoying being a bit of a veggie today. Retirement can be a wonderful thing!

  5. I would be glad to take some of that rain off of your hands if you'll swap for some wind. We were plummeted Sunday night and all of yesterday with steady 35-40 mph winds with gusts in excess of 50 mph. Suppose to happen again tomorrow.

  6. Thanks, Jim...I appreciate the offer. :) But I think I would rather put up with rain than with window-rattling wind. My Dad told me how once, when he was young, he was ice skating on a lake when the wind was blowing hard. He said he unbuttoned his coat, held the two front pieces out to the sides like sails and let the wind push him all the way across the lake. And then he said that skating back against that wind wasn't nearly as much fun. Now I know that I have enough ballast to keep me from blowing away, but still.....

  7. We are getting the same storm through here. I'm just staying inside and waiting it out.

  8. Harry...The temp today isn't bad - 55 degrees and wind about 15 mph. One weather system moved through yesterday and I see by the weather radar that another line of storms will get here sometime this afternoon or evening. Strange weather for Minnesota in November. I think your plan for staying in and waiting it out is a good one, and that's exactly what I'm doing, too.
