Most Times...

I am perfectly content with my life.

But today I am not content.  It might have something to do with our local news reporting about the abduction, rape and murder of a sweet little five year old girl at the hands of a "family friend."  Or maybe it was the story of a father beating his two year old child to a bloody pulp.  Or perhaps it was just the reports of the latest "protest" in Minneapolis turning violent and ugly.  Could have been the alternative news sources jam-packed with tales of lies and corruption associated with our government.  Whatever the reason, I would like to check out just for today..

I would like to be here...

or here...

or here.

Perhaps tomorrow will be better.  At least, I have hope that it will.

  2. I had similar feelings this morning when I saw the news feed on my homepage. I won't go into the details but my thoughts were "what is happening here".
I'm in agreement with Gorges' comment though. My overriding thought is "as for me and my household, I will serve the Lord". I don't remember the reference.
When I get the thought to pack it in and move somewhere remote, I'm reminded of good friends here that I would miss. And, truly, I'm not up for starting over again - or at least not for today.
For today, I'm hunkered down in my apartment with a sick puppy to look after. He's on the mend from some unexpected surgery. Thank goodness for the frugal life as I had some money tucked away to take care of him.

  3. Gorges...Some days I wish the day of reckoning could come sooner than later.

  4. SJ...Most days life continues to roll on in its own quiet way. But sometimes the headlines scream of the horror, especially when it involves kids. I know that I am not going anywhere. The time for that has long since passed. But days like today it would be wonderful just to be able to go somewhere remote. Where there is beauty rather than ugliness. Just for one day.

The war against Christians continues to escalate. Talking about God's glory is all but banned in some areas. Prayer is forbidden in our schools and in other public venues for fear of "offending" non-believers. I know that you, me, Gorges and others have already taken our stand, referencing the verse you quoted. I do not think the time is all that far off when many others will have to decide who they will serve.

So sorry to hear that your pup needed surgery, and I truly hope and pray that healing will be swift and thorough. It is tough when our fuzzy buddies are down. They can't verbally tell us what is wrong. All we can do is give them the love and attention they so richly deserve. I agree about the frugal lifestyle. So many think if they have buckets of beans and rice, they are prepared. I have always believed that having a stash of cash is just as important for emergencies like this.

I am thankful for my online friends like you and Gorges and others who comment here. Some days it is those words that give me a glimmer of hope, knowing there are still good people among us.

  5. I'm the same way all the time. Really watch the local news anymore. Call it overload i guess. Watkins is near us within like 30 mins. Heart breaking. Who do we blame? Drugs, Booze, violent games, society??? What is the answer, ?? I wish I knew. I think its has to do with the lack of discipline, too may folks having kids, because of unprotected sex, and a high divorce rate. Folks don't talk about their problems. I could go on and on....

  6. Your blog enriches my life as well. It's amazing to me how I've collected the blogs I read. Almost all of them are Christians who express their faith in their writings and their lives.
And as for my fur-buddy, the vet called this afternoon with great news. All of the lumps were benign and 'nothing notable'. I do have to watch for any more but for now he's good. I have to keep him calm until the stitches come out on the 7th. The next challenge, ha!

  7. Rob...I don't watch the main stream media any more because I have no interest in watching the Hillary Cheerleading Squad. Even the alternative news is getting on my nerves lately. Reports of mud slinging politics, lies, corruption, riots, bogus protests, etc., etc., etc. You are right. Overload is what it is.

As far as the latest atrocity in our neighborhood, I am really tired of blaming everything and everyone for the actions of a monster. That piece of crap, according to police reports, partied with the parents and was a guest in their home. He made a decision to steal that baby, to do unspeakable things to her and to kill her. I don't care about his motivation. He made a choice. He and he alone is responsible for his actions. Period.

For so very long we have blamed society, video games, fatherless homes, poverty, etc. Bottom line is we need to get back to holding people accountable. The rules apply to everyone. You break the rules, you pay the price. No excuses.

Kicking her soapbox back into a corner now. :)

  8. SJ...I find that I, too, gravitate towards blogs and YouTube channels that are maintained by like-minded folks. Some because they make me laugh. Some because their posts are fun and interesting. Some because they are much more knowledgeable in specific areas than I am. And most because even if they aren't on the exact same page as me, they are at least within the same book. It is particularly reassuring to know that there are folks out there who are doing the same things as I am - canning, preparing, working toward being as self-sufficient as possible (or as in my case, as independent as it is possible for one of my vintage to be). Not all, but most, also profess a deep and abiding faith in God, which I consider a bonus.

So glad to hear the tests came back all clear. I'm pretty sure I heard a huge sigh of relief coming from your direction. Good luck with the keeping him quiet thing. You have your work cut out for you. The last time I had to keep one of my Yorkies quiet after surgery was the time when even the slightest noise set her to barking and carrying on. Hope your guy is a bit more calm, cool and collected than that!

  10. Chickenmom...That's the best offer I have had in a very long time. If I lived closer to Joisey, you might just find this chubby granny on your doorstep. :)

  11. Vicki,
Violence has been with this world as long as we have had a world. The thing is, we can hear about the latest atrocity and all the details quickly with news broadcasting and the internet. We know sooner and we have the ability to have more news of things done to children. Proportionally, things are the same, just advertised more widely.

That said, the violence is not less horrendous. People who watch events over and over (World Trade Center) or serially hear of violence (children here and there being raped) suffer more anxiety and depression--fact I read somewhere. Maybe you should not watch the news.

One day, you might have hoped religion was kept out of school days. When the Muslims demand their prayer time be respected and that all Christians, Jews, Sikhs, atheists, agnostics, etc. rearrange their day to accommodate them, you will appreciate the bans on religion in schools. Muslims want the whole world to bow down to them, obey them, and do as they say. They will destroy our places of worship and culture, just like they did in Europe hundreds of years ago.

Atheists don't really care how you dress, if you talk to a man to whom you are not married, or how you worship. Neither do the Methodists! Muslims do!

  12. Linda...I keep up with the news because I feel it is important to stay informed. If I don't know what is going on in the world around me, I am no better than those who live in a world of unicorns and rainbows, believing nothing bad will ever happen to them. You are right in that bad things have been happening all throughout history and that we just have faster and more complete access to that news. I have no anxiety or depression over the days happenings - usually just anger that people do such stupid and horrible things. And a sadness that our society seems to be headed down a path of destruction. Once in a while I find the need to just unplug for a day to do nothing but enjoy God's gifts to us.

I doubt I will ever feel that religion should be banned in schools. Or in public buildings or anywhere else, for that matter. I believe that one of the many reasons we as a nation are in trouble because we have turned away from God. I don't mean that one religion should try to force itself on others, but if a child feels the need to say a prayer before eating lunch at school, there should be no rule against it. I read about another case recently where a very young girl was in trouble with her school because she was telling her friends about the Bible stories she learned at Sunday School - at recess and after school. Political correctness has run amok.

I think when a person migrates to our country to become a citizen, that person should adopt the customs of this country. We aren't in the habit of having specific times for prayer, so there should be no expectation that an employer or school system should change to accommodate these demands. If someone takes a job at a grocery store, they should not refuse to touch a package of bacon. If someone attends a festival where there is a beer garden, they should not complain about it, for it is part of that community celebration. If someone's religion demands they wear a burka, fine, but do not expect us to dress differently so as not to offend. Part of the reason we are as yet a free nation is that nowhere is it written that we can not be offended. When a person has, by choice, come here for whatever reason, they should respect our laws and customs - not try to change them to suit themselves. The muslims will destroy our religions and culture only if we allow it to happen. Until someone has the guts to stand up and say "Enough," it will continue.
