It is cold. It is breezy. It is wet. It will stay like this for the next three or four days. Arthritis in my joints is protesting. It is easy to let depression settle over us under these conditions.
But I won't let it.
There is a recliner and a Kindle and some music on the radio and a green fuzzy blanket, all calling my name.
Right after I have a slice of chocolate cake and another cup of coffee.
Take that, arthritis and depression. You can't begin to compete with chocolate cake and coffee. Nor can you compete with the jar of home canned ham and beans I'm having for supper tonight, along with a pan of cornbread.
Comfort food and a murder mystery. And a green fuzzy blanket. Chases the blues away every time. :)

Wish I was close enough to share some of that cake!! As one who's been clinically depressed, I get it. That was years ago and I managed to regain my health, thank the Lord.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cozy day!
As soon as I finish on the computer, I'll be off to my closest garden to water. We're having a heat wave starting today - supposed to get into the high 70s. I know, my friends in CA laugh at me and our heat waves when they're into triple digit heat. But, it's all relative.
Take good care of yourself. Cheers, SJ
SJ...I wish you were close enough to share the cake, too. As it is, I doubt I can do it justice and will likely send some home with Duane tonight.
DeleteWant to send some of your warm air this way? It is still only 44 degrees at 2 pm. If I were prone to bouts of depression, this might do it. Luckily it has been about 40 years since I had to deal with any serious depression. So far, it is just the arthritis kicking in. I will survive it, I think. :)
I hear the same thing about heat waves from some friends in the South. When the temps here get into the 90's, we think we are melting, where that is just another normal day for them. And we laugh at them when we are in the minus double digits here and they think that 40 degrees is mind numbing cold. It is, as you say, all relative.
Sounds like a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI thought so, Gorges. So far, it seems to be working well. :)
DeleteThankfully, I have never been prone to depression! My green, fuzzy blanket is one my mother gave me in 1979 and getting threadbare. Having gotten it from my mother makes it all the more cozy. Right now the humidity is so high that I am dying from the muggy air.
ReplyDeleteLinda...I have not been prone to depression either, although on cold, dreary days like today, it would be easy to slip into a depression-like state. Blankets given us by loved ones are that much warmer, aren't they. My green fuzzy blanket was a gift from three of my grands a few years ago. Part of its warmth is in the thinking about them whenever I snuggle underneath it. I would take the warmth of your air, but would not welcome the humidity. Right now, I would settle for a bit of sunshine and a few more degrees of heat. :)
DeleteMurder Mysteries! Any favourite authors? I have read PD James, Ruth Rendell, Lawrence Block, James Ellroy, Ian Rankin to name a few. I am a big fan of Columbo (Peter Falk) and watch episodes.
ReplyDeleteBW...I read very few modern day authors. My apartment is small and the space others might use to store books of fiction is taken up with sewing and quilting books, food preservation books, books about herbs, etc. So I now download books from free websites like Project Gutenberg. These are books where the copyrights are outdated and they are in the public domain. They date from the 1800's through the 1930's. I probably have between 500 and 600 books downloaded to my Kindle. I am particularly fond of Agatha Christie as well as Wilkie Collins and Anna Katherine Green. For sheer silliness and fun I read Edna Ferber and P G Wodehouse.
DeleteAt one time I read a lot of Agatha Christie. We want to see your sewing projects sometime.
DeleteBW...There are some old TV shows based on Agatha Christie books that I have found on YouTube - Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, etc. They are fun to watch once in awhile.
DeleteI have had to put my needlework projects on the back burner for a time - other things that need doing first. Maybe this summer I can take some pictures. Thanks for your interest.
