and humid. Too hot to cook. Too hot to do any canning.
A thunderstorm rolled through this morning. A little rain and lots of thunder booming lightning. More of the same forecast for tonight. And then more heat.
I shall be found in my recliner with plenty of iced tea and a mystery novel. Big box fan is helping the air conditioned air move about the apartment. I will surface when things cool down some.

I don't blame you! It's really muggy here today, too.
ReplyDeleteGorges...We had a few lovely cooler days, but that came to a screeching halt today. I am so looking forward to fall!!
DeleteIced tea and a fan sound like a winning combo.
ReplyDeleteCheers, SJ
They are working pretty well, SJ...It is the humidity that knocks the stuffing out of me, so quiet I am for a little while. :) Hope all is well with you and Mr. Dog.
DeleteWe just happened to be at the hospital for wife's had surgery, missed out this am. Home now, heavy rain, some thunder. Surf n the web, I updated my Kindle on my laptop. Time to re read some prep books I have. Tea sounds great. My oldest has a thing for sweet tea, can't keep in the house. Much like me and my Pepsi Max.
ReplyDeleteRob...I keep my Kindle fully charged when storms are in the forecast. Another storm headed my way, but you likely know that, for it will hit you first. I like tea in the summer when it is hot outside, but coffee is my beverage of choice. :)
DeleteVicki we have had extremely hot temps in Oregon, but like you there were a couple of days where it got a little cooler. Now I hear that we are headed for high 90's again and I am already starting to feel tired just thinking about it. Laying low and staying cool is high on my list of priorities also. Take care and stay hydrated.
ReplyDeleteSue...Seems like the weather just can not make up its mind what it wants to do. The far northern part of Minnesota had overnight temps close to freezing just a couple of days ago. The heat and humidity really lay me low, so I don't plan anything very strenuous until it cools down some. I read a lot and sometimes use the down time to work on my family tree. That's pretty much the extent of my excitement. :)
DeleteOrange Kitty! They are the best.Stay cool Vicky
ReplyDeleteAnon...For me it is a toss-up between the orange and the tortoise shell colored cats. A few years ago I had a cat that had a tortoise shell body and orange legs. Perfect. :)
DeleteI hate thunderstorms here because they usually bring hail.
ReplyDeleteBW...We occasionally get hail, but that aside, I like to watch the storm clouds. As a kid I would stand on the front porch with my Dad and watch the storms roll in across the fields of farming country in central MN. The lightning shows are awesome.
DeleteThe position you assumed in your chair looks extremely comfortable. I love the heat just not our high humidity. I do not look forward to fall! I just let the seasons roll as they must.
ReplyDeleteLinda...I thought the cat looked pretty comfy.:)
DeleteI don't do well with heat or humidity, which is one reason I stay in the north country. I would love fall weather all year.
You would not like the South because it is hot and humid, rated as a subtropical rainforest where I live.
DeleteLinda...You are right. Don't think I would do well in the south. I spent one summer living south of Dallas and what I remember most is walking outside and feeling like I was being slapped in the face by a hot, wet towel. :)
DeleteBecause you asked -- MrDog has had a lower GI infection, at least that's what my wonderful vet thinks. He got me up several times each night for several nights before we made it into the vets. He's not on antibiotics and we're hoping that does the trick. Already he is eating like his old self. And, I'm back to getting my normal amount of sleep.
ReplyDeleteGardens are doing well. Oh my gosh, I am swimming in summer squash and cucumbers. Tomatoes are just now starting to turn. Green beans have been going strong for 2 weeks.
Cheers, SJ
*now instead of not
DeleteSJ...Glad to hear that Mr. Dog is on the mend. It is so hard when they get sick. They can't tell us where it hurts. Give him a good ear scratching and belly rubbing for me. :)
DeleteYou garden sure has been a success this year when so many have failed due to the heat. Are you getting any of it canned? Even if you aren't, the fresh produce makes for some good eating!!
Good morning.
DeleteYes it is hard when they don't feel well and it's up to us to take care of them and figure it out.
No canning for me. I've been shredding and freezing some of the summer squash. I also made some refrigerator pickles using a combination of small sliced zucchini and small cucumber. One batch of dills and one batch of bread & butter (your recipe). The 'batch' was about 2cups. Both turned out well. I'm just not up for canning right now.
Have a great day and take care in the heat.
SJ
SJ...Canning - or even cooking - is not happening here. The humidity here this morning is at 90%. Meals consist mostly of sandwiches and soup that I canned last year. My freezer is in use to hold those things that I want to can - corn and peas and bacon and butter at present. I am praying for an early fall!!
Deletevicki,
ReplyDeletea couple of days ago there were robins everywhere, gathering as they do before leaving in the autumn.
they should be busy raising another nestful but looked as though they were getting ready to leave.
they are gone now, and some robins are still here, so maybe the gathering were robins from further north.
we live in northeast ohio about an hour's drive from lake erie.
an early autumn may mean an early winter.
there have been very few sunspots this year which presages cold weather unusually extreme.
batten down your hatches!
deborah...Here we have lots of small birds common to cities - sparrows, chickadees, etc. They nest in the small tree outside my apartment. They sit on the ledge of my building just under my windows. They are a noisy lot, especially in the hour before sunrise. But after reading your comment I realized I have heard no birdsong for a couple of weeks. I haven't even heard the sounds of the geese who normally fly south to their feeding grounds in the morning and fly back to their nesting areas in the evening. I don't know if the birds are just laying low due to the heat or if they have departed. But I believe you are right about battening down the hatches. This has been anything but a normal summer for weather.
