Most of us who are into prepping have heard a slacker or two say, "Well, if things ever get really bad, I will just come to your house." Or they ridicule us for stockpiling food. Or they tell us we are wasting our time by canning and dehydrating because we can buy whatever we want at the grocery store.
We have heard it often enough. Mostly from those whose priorities are big screen TVs, new vehicles and vacations in exotic lands. The same ones who run up their credit cards to own the latest gadget or buy the designer clothes in order to impress their friends. They have no earthly idea what is happening right here in our own country because they either aren't paying attention or they believe what they hear from lying politicians and the main stream media.
There is no way to sugar coat the truth. We are in trouble. America is deeply divided in every way. Some say a civil war has already begun. Senseless violence is becoming the norm. And in Washington, there are those who are doing their level best to remove our duly elected president from office.
Make no mistake. What is happening is nothing less than a coup de tat. Have you thought about what could happen if it is successful? What life will be like if we refuse to comply?
Ol' Remus over at the Woodpile Report gives us examples of what has happened when socialism has reared its ugly head. You might want to take a look. I'll wait.
This is why we spend hours and hours canning and dehydrating food. This is why we buy extra food with each grocery shopping trip. This is why we prepare.
If you don't think something similar could happen here, you are sadly mistaken.
My thanks to CW in Iowa for the 'heads up' on the article in the Woodpile Report. And as she often says, "Keep on prepping."

You are right, I purchased organic corn syrup in the spring, because the lack of corn planting would cause a shortage. I just went to order more and it's completely out of stock, so I'm glad I bought what I did.
ReplyDeleteKristina...Once the fall harvest is complete and we know how the lousy spring weather affected the crops, I fear we may see more of what you found with the organic corn syrup. I pray the farmers will see a good yield, but I'm not betting on it.
DeletePeople did mildly ridicule my dehydration of Vidalia onions, saying I could just buy one at the grocery store. Well, Vidalias are only available in spring and early summer. The cost is prohibitive for onions one at time. I waste onions when I let them sit around, trying to use them up. So, other than prepping, there are other reasons to can and dehydrate. Yes, I do want to be prepared, but people are so quick to point fingers and ridicule. And, I will be glad when the orange one is gone. And, no, no, no, I do not want socialism. That is how I decide who I will vote for or support. Whoever smacks of socialism will never get my vote. I am glad you prep.
ReplyDeleteLinda...I rarely talk about my food storage to anyone except here on this blog. But when it comes right down to it, it is nobody else's business what you do. Here we have summer storms and winter blizzards. Those people who like to poke fun at our efforts are the same ones who will be standing in long lines trying to buy food after a bad storm or they will go hungry. My parents were preppers, but they didn't call it that. They were just putting food by to make it through the harsh Minnesota winters. This is nothing new - just a different name.
DeleteSocialism scares me. I never, ever want the government to have that much control over my life, no matter which party is in power. Seems to me they have way too much already.
It scares me too. That is why we need guns, to shoot people who want our shovels and hoes we farm with.
DeleteThose who want to take our guns are the very ones we need to worry about.
DeleteI read O'l Remus' take on this yesterday. I also get the same "If the SHTF, I'm coming to YOUR house!" from people at work. Funny; they think it's good that SOMEONE is stocking up on food and other necessities, but they won't do it themselves!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Vicki. I see what's happening, and I know quite a few people who "have had enough." ...It's just a matter of time before some seemingly insignificant event throws a stick in the spokes...
People out here are wailing, gnashing their teeth, and, of course suing... because their power was shut off for five days. Can you imagine what would happen if the power went off and just stayed that way?...
Pete...Don't you think that much of society has gone from the 'taking care of ourselves and our families' mindset to 'where's the free stuff'? Too many assume someone else will take care of them in a disaster situation. Not at my house!
DeletePersonally, I am past the point of 'having enough.' Folks are on edge. I know I am, waiting for the next bit of insanity to occur. It just seems never ending and getting worse on a daily basis.
Obviously, those folks whining about no power for five days have never been snowed in for over a week without power. My parents were ready for it so we didn't suffer. But if the power goes out and doesn't come back on, I wonder how long it would take for things to get really ugly. Not very long, I'm guessing.
Priorities is the bottom line. I see it all the time. My favorite thing to do is people watch. Study body language. How they act towards others, family, friends etc. Disney World was a great place to do just that.
ReplyDeleteRob...It is sort of scary what is running loose out there without a leash and a keeper!!
DeleteVery important words, Vicki. Now if people would just take your words seriously, it would benefit all of us.
ReplyDeleteI just heard that a group of Republican congress people stormed into a secret impeachment hearing. Do you think we might have a problem in this country? Get ready for the next crisis. It could become very ugly. Take care, prepare, and be aware...CW
CW...I just watched a video if the Republican congress people getting ready to storm the hearing, but the video ended with them entering the room, and I haven't been able to find the outcome of that. Things have gotten totally out of hand. The Rule of Law is now optional, depending which side of the isle you favor. And folks are getting real tired of all the foolishness. I have to say that it would not surprise me at all if something blows up - big time. We had better be as prepared as we can be, my friend, because this country is in deep trouble.
DeleteAnother great article and also comments. Read the link as well, that's a blog I need to start reading more of.
ReplyDeleteTurns out today is a bit of a practice day for my preps. Got a notice Monday night that water would be shut off all day today (Wednesday). I didn't haul out my big water totes from my storage room but did fill up three big stock pots with water. It's been a good exercise.
Cheers, SJ in Vancouver BC
Thanks, SJ...Ol' Remus posts, I think, once a week, but it is worth the wait.
DeleteI wonder how many were able to cope with a day without water. In the past I have had several days without it here - usually when there was street work or construction in the neighborhood. Storing enough water is one of my biggest challenges. Being of a prepping mindset sure does help.
Good evening Vicki. I hope this day finds you well. I splurged and got my hair done today. My stylist was ticked off at her brother. He had gone to their Mom's and raided the freezer and the pantry. Without asking Mom since Mom wasn't there. She let her Mom know and that's when the LOCKS were changed. Seems the Will is going to be changed also. I don't know the back story but it appears serious. My Stylist then said he had taken some of her preps too. She's ready to skin her brother. She's being following the Crop Reports and wants to know why nothing is being said in the news. I let her know about how Clinton got rid of our Strategic Grain Reserves starting in 1998. Lord look after us as no one else will. Red
ReplyDeleteHi Red...All is well here in the tundra. :)
DeleteMy kids can come here any time if they need food. But that is because I told them to do so. Duane came in this afternoon when I was napping and took a bottle of hand soap. But he came back later and told me. That's all I ask - that they let me know so I can replace the items.
But to go into your mother's house and steal her food without her permission is pretty darned low. I prep for me and my family but I can't even imagine that any of them would just come in and steal. It must be pretty bad if both the locks and the Will are to be changed.
I am beginning to think that the only way we can hear anything even close to the truth is on some of the alternative news sources and even then it is sometimes difficult to separate the tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorists from those who are real. You are right. God is our only hope.
Dear Vicki,
ReplyDeleteI am a long-time reader, but I seldom comment.
I just watched a video released today by ice age farmer using the link on Fern and Frank’s site.
If you have watched it, I was wondering about your thoughts.
Thanks,
Laura
Laura...Thanks for your comment. After reading it I watched the video. I think he is right about much of what he says.
DeleteAfter doing some of my own research, I have two opinions on the subject. The first is that many people don't buy into the climate change propaganda. They don't believe that if we don't get rid of fossil fuels, cows and all the rest, we will all die in 12 years. I consider the Green New Deal hogwash. But if you are a politician who is pushing the climate change agenda, what better way to scare folks than to convince them the fires are caused by that same climate change.
The second is all about power. Many have no idea how to cope when they lose electricity. Their gadgets wont work. Water no longer comes out of the tap. Stores close. Gas stations can't pump gas. Nothing works. And people aren't prepared for anything. Those of us who prep just break out the candles and oil lamps, set up the propane stove and dig into our food storage and water storage, And we are just fine. The rest run out of food and water and are sitting in the dark. The message here from the politicians is they can mess up our lives whenever they want to, so we had all better just knuckle under and buy into their socialist agenda, because if we don't, bad things will happen.
These people are all about power. And they are determined to get it by any means necessary.
Laura, I believe that Vicki is absolutely correct. Al Gore and his poltical comrades created global warming to scare and manipulate people. They also made $$$ with their scare tactics. Look into how much money Obama supporters/devotees made off of defunct solar power manufacturing companies. Now that 99% of what Gore and liberal scientists said didn't come to fruition, they are renaming all their nonsense calling it the Green New Deal. It is scaring our young people and creating another distraction from what is really of great significance. Laura, you are smarter than those who buy into their shenanigans, AND I bet you don't fly around in private jets telling the people they are going to die in 12 years...CW
DeleteDear Vicki and CWfromIowa,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your responses. I totally agree with your sentiments about global warning.
What I found so intriguing and horrifying in the video was Ice Age Farmer’s explanation for California’s PG&E planned power outages in the grand scheme: control of food production. I am not smart enough or thoughtful enough to make the connections and postulate the implications in a scenario as Ice Age Farmer did, but I do understand now the logical progression of his thoughts and it scares me.
No one in my family/friends believes as I do, nor does anyone support me in my preparations for what is coming. I don’t even discuss it anymore.
Thanks, Vicki, for posting and sharing your encouragement to prepare.
Laura
Laura...I have absolutely no doubt that complete control over all aspects of our lives is the goal of the political left-leaning elites. And it scares the bloody hell out of me, too. I don't understand all the nuances, but am convinced that those people will stop at nothing to get the power they crave.
DeleteWith that in mind...keep on prepping. Many of us face ridicule from family or friends for our efforts. They mostly refuse to believe that anything really bad can happen. But those are the same ones who will be knocking on your door for food when it does happen.
I am grateful for those who comment here, for they keep me on my toes and give me assurance that we all are on the right path. You are not alone. We are all right there with you.
remember when the thousands of gallons of water were flushed into the ocean when the almond farmers needed water? so many almond trees perished that had to be planned
DeleteVicki
ReplyDeleteCraziness gets even worse in California. Environmental regulations prohibit weed abatement and the removal of dead trees. The Government would not allow reservoirs to be built for water storage and allowed millions of gallons of snow melt to run into the ocean.
Then there is this insanity. https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/jun/6/californias-new-water-restrictions-send-residents-/ A new way to get $$$$ from the citizens. Another Tax hidden as fines. Red
Red...That is just plain bat guano nuts. My grandparents used more water than that every day when they were pumping it out of the ground with an outdoor hand pump and hauling it in buckets. It is all about control, isn't it. Control the food. Control the water. Control the lives.
DeleteI have been hearing rumors that CA, with the exception of LA, San Francisco and the Sacramento/Stockton area are working on a way to legally form a new state. I know the first attempt at this failed, but this is entirely different. Have you heard anything?
Vicki~ I've heard only whispers. It's going to take the Good Lord's intervention and a whole lot of wrath with his terrible swift sword. Some pillars of salt would be good. Red
