Taking Time Off

I am taking a couple of weeks off from blogging to concentrate on food preservation.  There is pork from a good grocery sale to thaw and can.  There are hashbrowns and tomatoes to dehydrate.  There is close to 100 lbs. of flour to repackage and store.  And that is just for starters.

I have a quarter beef coming this fall from a local farmer, so the freezer needs to be cleaned out and anything that can be canned or dehydrated needs to be taken care of.  And my sons are planning another Sam's Club run.  And I have another grocery delivery in a week and a half.

If you think for one little bitty minute that things are going to go back to what we considered normal, think again.  We are told we have to 'social distance' and wear masks, but the riots continue unabated.  No social distancing there.

I read in the local news that shootings are a nightly occurrence in Minneapolis.  There was a time not all that long ago that as far as large cities go, Minneapolis was one of the more decent ones.  Now that the 'defund the police' movement has reared its ugly head and law enforcement is no longer allowed to do the job we pay them to do, anything goes and the criminals are deliriously happy with that.  Citizens - not so much.

Between the riots and mayhem that Democratic leaders are allowing to happen and the fear being perpetuated by the left over a virus with a 99% recovery rate, the normal world we grew up in is fading fast.

If you think the Dems will not use every dirty trick in the book and will make up a few more in order to gain power over us, you are delusional.

Time is short.  If we are not now doing all we can to take care of our families, then shame on us.  That is why I am taking time to can and dehydrate and stock up on other supplies necessary to see my family through what is ahead.  I will be back when I am caught up on what needs doing.

Churches have been closed but so far as I know, there is not a ban on prayer - yet.  Pray and prepare like never before.

  1. We definitely need God's help and guidance. Every person I know that has their eyes open is canning, dehydrating, freezing and drying for what lies ahead.
May God bless you abundantly with strength, energy, peace and fortitude.

    1. Thank you, Glenda...I think many of us are feeling like time is short. Things just keep escalating and I know I can not stop it, so I get ready for whatever comes. It is in God's hands.

  2. Don't wear yourself out, Vicki, then you'll have to stop entirely for a while. We'll be here when you come back.

    3. Lucy & Tigers Mom...I think that anyone who is paying attention feels the need to get caught up soon. One look around is enough to convince me the world has gone bat guano crazy! Good for you on the catching up!

  3. Vicki, you are one smart woman! If ever there was a time when we should be preparing it is now! You take care, and I shall look forward to reading your next blog post when the tasks are completed...CW

    1. I'm not so sure about the smart part, CW...I just know that much of our country has lost its collective mind and only God knows what is coming next. We can never be fully prepared, but we can do our best to try.

  4. Vicki~ Do what needs doing. Remember to take breaks, stay hydrated and eat. I ordered more jars for pickup tomorrow. A friend said something about stocking up on coffee pods. I told her it is more cost effective to store beans, both roasted and green. People have become so spoiled with the convenience of buying prepared heat and eat or delivered foods. Skills that were taught to every girl and young woman have become a lost art. There are days coming many more than the already 30 million will go hungry. Watch out for those pretending to be from an agency coming to the door demanding to see if the household has enough food. Watch your six as the guys say in the military. Red

    1. Red...I just have that nagging suspicion that time is running out. And I need to get some ducks in a row. You are right about so many not knowing how to do the things we were taught. I thank God for a mother who made sure I learned to cook and bake bread and sew and preserve food. My grocery orders these days are mainly staples. Thanks to your previous comments about your dehydrating, I am doing more of that now. I already have lots of dried veggies, but am working on things like the tomatoes that can be made into other products rather than taking up space with premade.

I had not heard about people wanting to check for food. Nobody gets into my apartment unless I know them. And there are very few that I trust these days. Sad that it has to be that way. Take good care, Red.

    1. sbrgirl...Slow and steady works for me, as long as progress is made. I think I am doing more praying than anything else. I don't now what else we can do but pray and prepare.

  6. Our churches have been closed once again by our idiot "governor." They're allowed to have open-air services, but with a cap on attendance of 100... "No chanting or singing..." Open-air services sound charming; real "sermon on the mount" stuff... until you factor in our location in the Wild, Wild West... with temps in the triple digits... Of course, if you want air conditioning and elbow-rubbing "fellowship," the indian casino up the road a few miles is open... No cap on attendance there...
Essentially, our "government" is saying "You can worship money. You CAN'T worship God..."

Anyone who still thinks this is about a virus simply doesn't have a pulse...

    1. Pete...I think we might have known, in the back of our minds where the horrors dwell, that it would come to this. Take God out of the schools, out of the public buildings, out of most everywhere, and this is what we get. Is this all about making us renounce our faith? If so, it is not working. They might be able to close the houses of worship, but faith in God overrides whatever stunt they pull next. I gotta tell you, Pete, I am really counting on "Vengeance is mine. I will repay," sayeth the Lord.

    2. Indeed, Vicki. Time after time, governments have tried to remove God from people's souls. It can't be done. I'm counting on God as well... If He needs a little help... I'm up for it...

  7. Good for you. Slow and steady will get you far.

With my recent kitchen accident and cut pinky finger...don't laugh anyone, it could have been so much worse...I'm reminded yet again about how fast even a small cut can go through the first aid supplies.Restocking took place this weekend using an online order with the drug store.

I just planted my first two little micro crops for the Fall - kale and rainbow chard. More to follow as I get room in my community garden beds.
    Cheers,

    1. SW...What looks like lots of supplies often turns out to be not so much when put into use. Thanks for the reminder. Something more to add to my list.
Glad you are on your way to healing. It is amazing how even a small cut can make life a bit miserable for a time.
Your gardens may be micro gardens, but every little bit helps and the results put you ahead of the game. Bravo!

    2. Ms. Vicki, I have to second Rob’s request. The more you’re on your feet with your CHF, the more you need to elevate your feet at the end of the day when you call it quits. Please be careful.

    3. Thank you Matt, for your concern. That means a lot to me. I have learned through trial and error just how much I can do and how much I can not, so regular breaks are the order of the day - with feet elevated. There was a time when I thought I was Wonder Woman who could do it all. These days the Wonder Woman cape stays in the closet. :)
