I never thought...

I would live long enough to have a four generation picture taken.  Yet, here we are.

Yesterday afternoon my daughter and her daughter and her daughter came for a visit.

Little Aspyn took one look at her Great-Grandma and screamed like a banshee!  She sat on her Momma's lap, held on to my fingers for dear life, and yelled.  The child has a bit of a temper and a really good set of lungs!

The hullabaloo didn't last very long and soon I was holding my very first Great Grandchild.

Of course I was a bit miffed when she went to her Great Uncle Duane without so much as a whimper!

With so much insanity surrounding us, it is times like this that bring us back to what is really the most important.  Family.

Aspyn, you made your Great-Grandma very, very happy.

  1. I am so happy you were able to meet little Aspyn and see your daughter and granddaughter once again. Four generations in one room is remarkable. You will be excited to add those pictures to your well-collected family genealogy. And the memories will be with you forever. 😊 Thank you for sharing, CW

    1. Thanks, CW...It has been months since I have seen any of them. Miserable virus! We had such a good time. It is all about family, isn't it!

  2. So happy for you, Vicki! I, too, have a 4-generations photo, but I am the baby. I know nothing about the events surrounding the picture. I hope you write down your thoughts so that Aspyn will have them when she's older. You know, it wouldn't be a bad idea to copy some/all of your blog to a hard copy for her. She'll treasure it. What I wouldn't give for a journal from one of my great-grandmothers! Have a great day!

    1. Jennifer...That is a really good idea to hard copy some of the family related blog posts. Aspyn may not have an interest in such things for many years, but I know how much the few letters I have that were written by both of my Great-Grandmothers mean to me. Thank you for the suggestion.

  9. Such beautiful pictures!! Your great grandbaby is such a cutie pie! Best wishes and love to you, Vicki! These times today are a bit rough...I haven't seen my grandson since Christmas 2020 but he is flourishing at Uni of Colorado, Boulder...made the Dean's List again and now moves into his senior year, after only 2 1/2 yrs. there...He's very blessed with intelligence and I have no idea where he got "all those smarts" from..certainly not me..lol! The world changes but life always goes on. :)

    1. Thank you so much, lynney62...This was the first time I was able to see her in person due to the restrictions and it was an absolute joy! It is so hard to be away from those we love. But as with your grandson, it is good to know that he is busy doing what he should be doing now and doing it quite well, I might add! He is to be congratulated on his accomplishments. You are right - life goes on. Not always the way we would prefer, but on nonetheless. Take care.

  11. Wait! If the child turned purple and whined, maybe it's a grape grandchild!

Four generations, that is a wonderful thing.

The four generation thing still amazes me. It is so much more than I ever hoped for.

  12. How awesome is that!! Your smile is just ear to ear!!!
And I second Jennifer--start writing stuff down on a hard drive, or paper even. My mom told her father to write his autobiography, as he was bored and driving her nuts. She told him to write it and she would type it up. He did--4 volumes worth, with pictures--and she did, and then made copies for each of her 3 brothers, and each of the 5 grandkids. He wasn't always PC, but it was interesting!
I wish I had a diary or set of letters from one of my grandmothers, or from my great-grandmother. I am the only grandchild old enough to have met both my grandmothers and my great-grandmother and remember them.
We have a couple of 4 generation pictures, and they are definitely special.

    1. Suz...I am still smiling - it was such a fun day!!

I have been writing down what I remember of the old family stories. I also am blessed with writings from one grandfather and a great-uncle along with copies of over 60 letters written by my maternal grandfather and his siblings as well as a few letters by my grandmother. Organizing the whole works is a monumental task along with a box full of old pictures. I haven't decided how best to put it all together with the genealogy research I have done, but it needs to happen. I doubt my grands are interested now, but in later years I expect they will appreciate their family history. Now I just need to get it done. Sigh.

I have one 4-generation photo of my grandma, mother, me and my oldest daughter. I am still amazed to have 2 such photos in my lifetime!!

    1. Thanks, Pete...The only thing I have going for me now is that Aspyn has not yet learned to crawl. When she does, I am in big trouble. :)
