Busy Again

I am guessing that many of you know about that little voice in the back of our heads that tends to shove us in the direction we need to go.  That's the same one that lets us know when danger is near.  Some call it a gut feeling.  Whatever it is called, we do well to listen.

I have this nagging feeling that things are about to go head over heels off the cliff.  I don't know if it is the big balloons in the sky or the chemical spills from derailed trains or the many food processing plants going up in flames or the possibility of the Chinese marching over the hill.  Whatever it is, now is not the time to slack off.

I am storing more water.  My grocery order for Thursday includes 6 of the half pork loins that are on sale.  And 10 lbs. of russet potatoes and 5 lbs. of sweet potatoes.  The pork and sweet potatoes will be pressure canned.  The russet potatoes will be sliced and dehydrated.

The top of my kitchen table is covered with quart bags of frozen strawberries.  Tomorrow morning I will add a little sugar and can them for use as ice cream topping or in baking or just to eat as sauce.  And after that I will can up whatever is below the berries.  We here in Minnesota have a forecast of up to 20 inches of snow in the next few days.  Snowstorms sometimes take out our power.  I also ordered a bunch of extra kitchen matches to have on hand for lighting candles and a propane camp stove (really don't want to do without my coffee) and a propane heater.

I am not saying that we will go to war tomorrow.  I am saying that anything is possible.  We are now living in a country whose leader thinks it is more important to visit Ukraine than Ohio.  Which shows me that the powers that be do not give a rodent's behind about our citizens.

We are on our own.  Keep stacking.  The reason I do this is so that when push does come to shove, those I love will be taken care of as best I can.

Pray.  Often.

  1. Add to all you mentioned that the Chinese President is in Moscow while ours is in Ukraine. Odd??
I always try to remain calm but this is all not looking good.
    Stay safe!

    1. Lori...I have zero trust in any of the leaders. They are playing power games with our lives and I, for one, am damn tired of it all. I try to stay calm as well, but I'm not sure I am succeeding. I can't stop the crazy, so I stay busy - stacking. God bless!

  3. To that end, I bought some kits to make raised garden beds. I know making them with the raw materials is less expensive but its not in my skill set. What I bought will get me started. I will still have more room for phase two. I also got the beginning of what will be a drip irrigation setup.

I went to the store twice this week with an eye to upping my pantry. Rice was on sale as was bacon, ground turkey, russet potatoes and frozen fruit. I got what I could while still trying to stay within my budget. I had also gone to the dollar store last week for some items like zip ties, tea lights and other things.
I agree that we all need to pray. And then do what we can. SJ now in California.

    1. SJ...Sounds to me like you are doing whatever possible to get ready for whatever comes around the corner next. And you reminded me that my next order needs to include non-edibles like paper plates and plastic utensils. Another roll of duct tape wouldn't hurt, either.

I am glad to know that you are getting your pantry resupplied after your move. Keep stacking. Keep praying.

  4. Just hit up Sam's this morning... picked up some things to can and some to dehydrate in addition to our current groceries, as well as 2 extra bottles to stock the medicine cabinet; just some ibuprofen and naproxin but every little bit is one less thing to worry about later.

    1. Every once in a while one of my kids will do a Sam's Club run for me. The last time my `son brought me several packs of boneless chicken thighs that I canned, along with a couple of bottles of Aspirin and Aleve. Every bit helps.

  5. I cannot recall a time in my life when everything was so unsettled and we were so close to the precipice.

But I am very encouraged by what's happening at Asbury. Pray, pray, pray...

    1. sbrgirl...Having lived through the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement and the Viet Nam War protests, I can honestly say that none of them caused as much anxiety as our present situation. And the part that is really horrifying is that it is our leaders who are willfully causing it all.

I, too, have been watching what is happening at Asbury and am very encouraged. I have seen reports that this revival is spreading. And I pray it spreads across our land. Prayers continue.

  6. Vicki, I think we've reached the point where the "black swan" shows his face. You know; that event that occurs that causes all hell to break loose. The one that afterward people say "How could we have NOT seen that coming???" It's pretty simple, actually. We're "governed" by people who want to destroy our country. They've made sure most people have been kept busy both mentally and physically juggling chainsaws so that we can't see the oncoming train. We see it and are preparing for it. Few will listen to us. We can do no more than to wave the red lantern, prepare, and pray...

    1. Pete...We know that all of this is orchestrated. I am not so sure the 'black swan' has the face of the resident of that white house on the hill, for I highly doubt he knows what day of the week it is and likely can't remember how to tie his shoes. But his handlers are a group of hateful people who are determined to send this country ass over teakettle into the rocky ravine below the cliff. And they are doing a good job of it.

I am a 76-year-old woman with health issues. I can't stop them. Well, maybe the ones who come through my door, but I have no influence over those in charge. And I have given up on getting the non-believers to understand what is happening. So, what I can do is ramp up my preparations. At least I know my family will be taken care of for a time, and that is what counts.

  7. Oh, Vicki, how I wish you were wrong. And Frank and I were wrong. I would much rather have thousands of people laughing in my face, pointing fingers at me and enduring endless mocking and ridicule than to see what is happening in our world, right in front of our faces, knowing that it will get so much worse. But we all know that wishing doesn't make it so.

I have felt for many years Frank and I have been given the experiences throughout our lives to prepare us for something. Well, here it comes, ready or not.

Thank you for your continued prodding to keep on keeping on. You are an amazing example. May the Lord bless and keep you and yours, whatever may come.

    1. Oh, Fern...We wish all of this was just a bloody nightmare, but here it is - staring us in the face when we are wide awake. I find it astounding that more people do not understand - or do not want to understand - what is happening. And most times when we try to explain, they look at us like we just grew another nose in the middle of our foreheads.

Now my focus has to be on continuing to assemble the food and the items that will keep my family going as we get closer to the cliff.

You and Frank have been an inspiration to me and so many others over the years. May God well and truly bless you and yours and keep you safe.

  8. Vicki~ Just finished dehydrating veggies and will be vacuum sealing them. The garden is doing well and the peas and cucumbers have flowered as have the squash. The market has King A Bread flour for $10.49. I did find out that several of the Store Employees are also getting ready for the Fan to be covered with Ick. Do what you can and remember where your towel is. Red

    1. Red...Canned 20 pints of pork loin and 10 pints of sweet potatoes today. Onions and 10 lbs. russet potatoes are waiting for the dehydrator. Was lucky to get my grocery order, what with the blizzard in my neck of the woods. That has now passed, thankfully, without knocking out our power.

I am not surprised that store employees are seeing what is happening. Not sure a towel will be enough!!
