One Good Eye - One Bad Eye

Just got home from having cataracts removed from my right eye.  The surgery went well - no problems at all.  Vision is a bit wonky until I have my left eye fixed in two weeks.  I didn't realize just how bad my vision had become.  Everything looks dull when using the left eye.  Everything is bright using the right.  I had forgotten what a blue sky is supposed to look like.  And green leaves.  Wow!

Daughter Jill was with me.  Afterwards when I looked at her with left eye, she was pale.  Looking through the new lens in right eye, she looked almost sunburned.  She just laughed at me!

Going to have a bite to eat and a cup of coffee.  Then it is nap time.  Thank you all who left such encouraging comments.  I was really apprehensive about having the surgery and you made it  so much easier.

Later.

  1. I had eye surgery 12 years ago. Corrected vision from from 280/20 left, 275/20 right to 40/20 in ten minutes. Over the next 6 months it improved to 15/20. I wear reading glasses now, but can live with that. Before the surgery I couldn't see past the tips of my fingers without glasses.
I hate going to the doctor for anything, but eye surgery was worth it.
    Enjoy!

  3. Anon...Thanks for the encouraging comment. Although my vision is still a bit of a blur due to eye drops, etc., I am sure that when the second surgery is finished I will enjoy a huge improvement. The difference between the two eyes is already striking and can only get better.

  4. Thanks, Stephen...I didn't need eye surgery to figure out what a handsome feller you are. But then, I don't look at outward appearances. It is what is in a person's heart that is important, and that makes you a very handsome devil indeed.

  10. The Egyptians did cataract surgery 3000 years ago, using needles. I guess the technology changes but the issues people have to deal with stay pretty much the same. I'm glad the process is going well for you.

  11. Thanks, Harry...So far, so good. The most painful part of the whole process was $300 worth of eye drops this past week and another $300 next week for the second surgery! But on the up side, within the next several days I am told that the repair to the right eye will have healed enough so that I shall see well enough to lose the glasses. I think I am really glad to be doing this now rather than back then. The thought of someone mucking about in my eye with needles sort of makes me shiver. :)

  13. Thanks, Rob...It takes a bit o time for the eye to heal, but there is no pain involved. Sight is better every day. Think this will turn out to be one of the better things I have done!

  14. So glad it went well! The drops keep one busy, don't they?! Our vision is a most precious thing!

    Blessings!

  15. Thanks, CottonLady...I'm excited! Today was my first day without glasses, as I can see distances better without them than with! It gets better each day, but you are right. The drops keep one busy. At least now I hit my eye with them more often than not! :)

  16. I have had both eyes done and went back once as a kind of fake cataract will sometimes try and grow back but it just got laser zapped in a couple of minutes. I had one eye done and being a painter, I did a painting of what the lights looked like at night while I had both a good and bad eye. The lights were kind of pretty with rays coming out but I couldn't drive like that. It sure is nice to be able to see again.

  17. Sunnybrook Farm...Thanks for your comment. It is so encouraging to hear from those who have had successful cataract surgeries. My second surgery will be done Aug 17. I am at that inbetween stage like you described and know exactly what you are talking about with the lights. Even so, I'm amazed at how much better I can see with only one of my eyes repaired. Will be really glad when both eyes are clear!
