Washer - Dryer - Success

Both the new appliances work well.  Clothes are clean.  The dryer takes about as long as you would expect a small dryer to take.  I've been staying close to make sure there are no washer leaks.  So far I am well pleased.  Four loads of clothes done and I didn't need to climb any stairs.  Life has just gotten better.

The only problem I had was in hooking up the dryer vent hose.  Two clamps came with the machine for that purpose.  They are pretty much useless.  Grabbed a roll of duct tape.  Problem solved.

Red Green would be proud.  :)

  1. Congrats on getting YOUR laundry room working.
Got my fruit this morning. Ended up not dehydrating anything. Four pints of raspberry and 5 pints of blueberries all canned in a simple syrup and lightest syrup suggested in my canning book. Another 20 servings of blueberry plus a random 2-cup portion all for the freezer in ziplocks. The raspberries I put up in 6 quart size ziplocks for the freezer. My kitchen looked like a disaster zone until after a break and lunch.
Berries are spendy up here as well unless you go the 'u-pick' route. My energy level and back/knees prevent me from going to the u-pick places any more. But, I was glad my friend offered to drive over an hour away to get the fruit. At least it's local.

  2. Thanks, SJ...So far I am really liking the appliances. They do a good job.

Wow! You have been busy! Blueberries are so good canned the way you did it. I haven't canned them for many years, but did lots when I lived where they grew wild. I have never canned raspberries, but it sounds really good. The fruit in the freezer will really taste good about January - or any time, for that matter. :)

I don't do the u-pick any more either, for pretty much the same reasons. I think what I miss most is going to the u-pick apple orchards in the fall. The body just rebels. Luckily we have the Farmers Market and a couple of the orchards sell apples in bulk. I would much rather have local produce than store bought, too.

I can relate to the kitchen disaster zone. By the time I finished the strawberries it looked like a strawberry field had blown up in the middle of my kitchen!

  3. There are few problems that can't be solved with either WD-40, duct tape or a wire coat hanger!

  4. Ah Gorges...You are funny. But you are also right. The duct tape worked like a charm where the clips that came with the dryer were worthless. Might not be pretty, but it works.

  5. Congrats. Today laundry, tomorrow the world!

  6. Wouldn't it be good if you could save all your drying until winter and heat your house that way. Even I know that won't work.

    Grace and peace.

  7. BW Bandy...LOL If I can conquer this mountain of dirty clothes that has been piling up longer than I care to admit, well then, the sky is the limit. :)

  8. Pumice...You are right. Won't work. There is this mildew thing happens when wet clothes lay about too long. Don't ask how I know. And this little dryer throws off no heat at all. However, it might make a decent substitute for a humidifier during the cold dry months of the year. Worth a try.

  9. I'd add zip ties to Gorge's list. LOL!

  10. SJ...Good idea! With those items on the list, we can fix almost anything.

There have been times when I was absolutely positive my life was held together by duct tape and wire. A zip tie might have helped. :)

  11. I've even used duct tape as a band-aid! What did we ever do without that great stuff?

  12. Chickenmom...Most times I think mankind got along perfectly well without some of the modern inventions. Duct tape is the exception. I don't think I ever used it as a band-aid, but I did use it to keep a bandage in place when I didn't have any surgical tape. Worked better, too. :)

  13. That's a big improvement. I guess I will just keep going down the stairs to the laundry room til I fall and lay there at the bottom helpless, til I die. But I would rather go that way than have one of those things where you push the button and say" Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!"

  14. Harry...I'm with you on the "Help, I've fallen" thing. I just don't think I could make myself get one of those devices. Lucky for me, at least one of the kids calls every couple of days to make sure I'm still alive and kicking. :)

Seriously, this handy dandy little washer and dryer are worth every dime. After nearly 20 years of hauling laundry up and down two flights of stairs, it is purely heaven to have all the wash done and put away without having to navigate those miserable steps. Wish I had thought of it years earlier!
