Some mornings...

are better than others.  This morning is one of those.

Beautiful sunrise.
Cool enough yet to have my windows open.
Birds singing their little hearts out in the tree outside my window.
Slight breeze bringing fresh air into my apartment.
Rain shower helping to keep the heat at bay, at least for now.
Good cup or two of coffee.
Bacon and eggs for breakfast.

The rest of the day is a crap shoot what with storms and heat predicted, but for now it is a good morning just to be alive.

  1. That sounds like a great day. So far, the low temps are usually in mid 70s and no cool breezes when the window is opened. At least it started off pleasant. Here, the rain chances are subsiding for the rest of the week.

    1. Jenn...The day is turning out just as nice. Haven't had to use the air conditioning and that is always a big plus.

  4. Sounds good - especially the bacon and eggs.

I ran some errands this morning including a routine trip to get blood work done. Getting older is definitely not for wimps, hahaha.

Enjoying a cool breeze coming through my open window. Dog is sound asleep on the couch beside me. Nice day.

    1. SJ...Glad you are having as nice a day as I am. Haven't needed the air conditioning all day. Sun is out but the rain cooled everything down nicely.

Seems like when we get older we are poked and prodded to a fair-thee-well! My Dad used to say that old age ain't for sissies. He lived to age 93, so I guess he knew what he was talking about.

You and the dog enjoy what is left of a perfectly lovely day.

    1. Rev. Paul...The day exceeded all expectations. Temps in the high 70's. Breeze flowing through my apartment. Even some sunshine after the much needed rain. God surely knows how to make us smile.

  6. I thought of you twice this morning. First, when I made a breakfast of hash browns and an egg. Yum - before reading your blog, I don't think I had ever purchased frozen hashbrowns. Now they are a staple. And I've even dehydrated some.
The second - I'm experimenting with my dehydrator. I've never tried to grow celery ever. From what I've read, it's just too finicky for me to deal with. But, oh my, I have an abundance of chard. Well, I use the stalks of the chard in place of celery in recipes. So, given my abundance now, I chunked some chard stalks and filled two trays of my dehydrator. Will let you know how they turn out.

We got rain this morning and the temps have dropped into the low 70s. This weather system is only supposed to be here today. It's been a nice break. Cheers, SJ

    1. SJ...Hashbrowns are a staple here, too. When they go on sale I buy a bunch and dehydrate most of them. They rehydrate so quickly and take up no freezer space dried. These days I'm all for quick and easy when it comes to cooking and the dried hashbrowns are that. And they taste good.

What a good idea, using chard stalks for celery. Youngest Son grew a bumper crop of celery in his little backyard garden a couple of years ago. I have heard that you can take the root end that you cut off a bunch of celery, set it in a dish of water and it will grow roots again and then planted in a pot will grow a new bunch of celery. Haven't tried it yet. I have never been able to get dehydrated celery pieces to rehydrate well, so I mostly run it through the blender or food processor and grind it into a powder. I get the flavor but not the hard pieces that way. Let me know how the chard stalks work out.

It rained here last night and some this morning, so it has stayed fairly cool. I haven't needed the air conditioning for several days. The weather forecasters keep telling us about heat and humidity but so far it hasn't happened. I love it when they err on the side of comfortable days. :)
