Vacation

Just because I am retired doesn't mean that I don't need a vacation now and then.  I seem to have hit a brick wall when it comes to writing.  So I am taking time away from the computer to relax and refresh.  I am not going anywhere, but daydreams put me on a sunny beach with a fruity, paper umbrella enhanced drink in one hand and a good mystery novel in the other.  I truly appreciate those of you who stop by this silly little blog.  I will be back in a week or two.

    1. Thanks, Jenn...Sometimes a person just needs to pull the plug for a little while and give it a rest. That's where I am, but like bad pennies, I keep showing up again. :)

  3. This is so funny, because I am finding it difficult to write anything interesting or new. I did a lot of kitchen work yesterday, but my fall in the chicken coop is still causing me pain (hence the lack of work from here on out). See you when you get back.

    1. Kristina...Seems like lately every time I try to write a post it turns into rubble. Just need to step back for a little while.

Hope the healing from your fall is swift. That has to be miserable. Especially when there are things you want to be doing but can't.

Thanks for sticking around. It is appreciated.

  4. Just stopping by to say Good morning. And, that I was thinking of you last night! I harvested peas from my itty bitty garden here at my apartment. I blanched my 'crop' and ended up with two (yes, 2!) servings to freeze. hahaha. Micro-farming at its best!
    Hope you're enjoying your vacation.
    Cheers, SJ

    1. Hi SJ...Micro-farming.....love it. What an apt description! So glad you got even two meals of peas. You are doing much better than I am. I have harvested 1 bean. The rest shriveled on the vine. The rest of the plants seem to be slowly but surely dying. The cukes and zucchini get blossoms that wither before they open. The peas never did bloom. I have tomato plants about two feet tall but no blossoms. But I don't care. It has been fun anyway. :) I will do lettuce and spinach next time, I think. And beets. Plants that don't need to bloom to produce.

I am enjoying my mini vacation. Haven't had the computer on very much except in the evenings to watch movies or listen to audio books. Sewing has happened and dust bunnies have been captured and surfaces have been cleaned. My apartment is becoming livable again!! I have been working on some blog posts and will likely be back in another week. Good to hear from you. It makes me happy that you stay in touch even when I go on holiday. :)

  5. Mental breaks are good. I enjoyed mine, but I think its time to vent again. This new math is driving me nuts.

    1. Glad you are back, Rob...you have been missed. Go ahead and rant. It is good for the soul. I need to do a good rant once in awhile just to keep my head from exploding what with all the foolishness surrounding us.

    3. Rob...I'm glad you decided to come back. Sometimes I think about shutting down, but I would miss the friends I have made by blogging.

  6. Hi again. I really appreciate the friendship with you that's developed on-line. What a great thing.
Today I met up with the other ladies who tend the plot for the food bank. We harvested a rubbermaid tote full of veggies. This plot is twice the size of the individual plots. It still amazes me how much can be grown in such a little space - about 8ft X12ft. From my own plot, I filled a grocery bag with beets. I only kept half the greens - I just can't keep up with them. Also a handful of cilantro.
One green bean for your harvest - that's something!! Having fun is the best tonic for the soul, imo.
While I'm thinking of it, I'm taking a long weekend away next week. So I won't be online, just so you know. Take care, SJ

    1. SJ...One of the side effects of this silly little blog is making new friends. It is something I never considered when I first started blogging, but one that makes me happy. Do you remember 'pen pals' from our youth? It is sort of like that, only much better.

I think it is such a good thing - growing food for the food bank. I'm sure there are those who appreciate having access to fresh vegetables. And I, too, am amazed at how much can be grown in a small space. I watch gardening videos once in a while and wish I had known about those techniques when I had a garden. Could have produced so much more than I did with the standard row garden.

All this talk of beets has decided me to try growing some. I think I will wait until spring, get some seeds and plant them then. I have found that plants on window sills in the winter don't do all that well. It is the cold, I suppose. I think I will try lettuce, spinach and other greens too. Something to look forward to. I really had to laugh at my one-bean harvest. All those plants to produce one bean. Tasted pretty good, though!

Enjoy your long weekend. Thanks for letting me know. I tend to worry when friends disappear.

    2. SJ...Have fun digging in the dirt. :)

Pen pals were fun. I had several as a kid. I'll bet kids now don't even know how to write a letter. Everything is messaging or email, except for my grands who write the cutest thank you notes.
