Why?

I find it troubling that I was not surprised early this morning when I saw the headlines about the Las Vegas shooting.  I was even less surprised when Hillary Clinton's Tweet about the event was a condemnation of the NRA.  And the newscaster's reports consisting of speculation before the facts are in was expected.

It was reassuring to see how many police, firemen and first responders heroically ran in toward danger to protect and save those in the line of fire.  And the civilians who put themselves in harm's way to save others and the ones who used their personal vehicles to get some of the wounded to hospitals when the ambulances were full are to be commended for their humanity and unselfishness.

What I want to know is why we have gotten to the point where mass killing has become the norm.  Why are we seeing more violence in one years time than I saw in the first 50 years of my life.  Thugs protesting at college campuses, riots in the streets, banning anything that can possibly offend someone and crazies shooting up schools, churches, nightclubs, offices and concerts have become a way of life.

Perhaps we need to take a long, hard look at what has changed.  Perhaps laws should apply to everyone.  Perhaps schools should go back to teaching the basics and not worry about diversity or white privilege or free speech zones.  Perhaps a good work ethic should again be an important trait to have.  Perhaps plain good manners and respect should be the norm again.  And perhaps it was a mistake to remove God from so many areas in our lives.  Perhaps.

  1. I always say that "It's all part of the plan!", Vicki, and it is. If you look at the ten goals of Marxism, we're at about eight-and-a-half, and all this is how it's happened.

    1. Gorges...All I can say is that those who are hell-bent on destroying our country are doing a pretty good job of it.

  2. Vicki, I agree with you whole-heartedly and ask why as well. At the same time, I think Gorges is right..."It's all part of the plan" of those who want to destroy the world and our country that we have been so blessed to live in. BUT God's plan will prevail. All we can do as individuals is pray, live by our principles, and prepare to keep those we love well cared for as best as we know how in these difficult times. CWfromIowa

  3. I don't even know what to say about this tragedy. It's all so senseless.

    1. Jenn...It make no sense at all. We here in the States really need to get back to the principals of our founders. I just don't know how.

  4. I don't like the fact they give these people so much attention on the media. The more they give the attention, the more it seems to happen. I feel the world is going insane on us.

    1. Kristina...I don't like all the attention those murderers get, either. But what disgusts me further are the politicians who call for gun control before the bodies are even cold. And you are 100% correct - the world around us is going insane and I feel helpless to stop the insanity.

  5. I completely agree, mom. Times have changed, and in some ways not for the better. It’s a social media world we live in now and unfortunately, many people use it as a platform to spread false information and say things they wouldn’t dare say to someone’s face.
It saddens me to see mass killings of innocent civilians in our world. And it angers me to see pathologically lying politicians use an event like Las Vegas to push their agenda before the smoke has left the air.

    1. You are absolutely right, Son. We have lost so much of what was good and true in our country that I doubt we can ever get it back. I worry about the world your kids will live in. The fact that you and Staci are raising them right eases that worry some. I am thankful that they have the values your grandparents had.

  6. To add to your list: perhaps gun free zones aren't working.
Honestly, my first thought about the shooting wasn't that it happened. My first thought was how could a shooter get away with firing that many rounds before he was stopped. A few armed, law-abiding, 2nd Amendment-loving individuals could have, perhaps, reduced the slaughter of innocent people.

    1. Gun Free Zones amount to giving a shooter an engraved invitation to come in and kill at will. And more restrictive gun laws only make it more difficult for law abiding citizens to defend themselves. I think the anti-gun crowd doesn't take into consideration is that criminals don't obey laws.

My heart aches for what my country has become, SJ. Maybe that's not quite right. Underneath all the race baiting and political rhetoric and hate-filled actions of the few, America is still the best place to be. We just need to find a way to dig out from under all of the bad stuff and get back to a place where going to a Country Music concert is not life threatening. I just wish I knew how to do it.

  7. I too have wondered why?? I guess that is how society has changed. We could sit for hours and debate the who, how, why, etc. I know its not the NRA or the weapons he used. Its the shooter himself.

    1. Rob...Never in the world, in my younger days, would I have thought I would live in times like these. Life was so simple then. Now it feels like everything we were taught about right and wrong has been swept away, leaving us with more insanity than I ever dreamed possible. I want my old America back.

  8. I'm not sure what's going on, but I think the absolute abrogation of any kind of moral values has a lot to do with it.

    1. Harry...You are right. I know there are still good people out there, but at least half of the population seems to have lost any idea of moral decency, common sense, plain good manners the ability to distinguish the difference between right and wrong. Add to that the refusal, especially among the elite, to take responsibility for words and actions, and I really fear for what our country will become. We are over halfway there already and continue to slide into God only knows what.
