I am just a tad bit under the weather. Nothing serious enough to worry about, but enough so that rest is needed. I will return shortly, when I can get my brain cells to function. All they do right now is yawn. :).
Red...I have a nurse who comes in three times a week to deal with my legs, and she also keeps track of vitals. I just wore myself down thinking I was still Wonder Woman. Don't bounce back as easily as I once did. :)
Fern...Sometimes I just forget that I passed the age of 30 several decades ago. There are consequences. Prayers are always appreciated, and my blog friends are always in mine.
Vicki, you deserve a stay-cation after your canning marathon. Put your feet up, read a good book, take some naps, and just let the crazy world go by...
Our sweet corn season has come to an end. We enjoyed it fresh off the cob, and I froze a sufficient supply for winter. I also dehydrated some toward the end when freezer space was at a premium. I'm now into green bean and zucchini season...canning, freezing, and dehydrating.
Today I am thinking "chocolate zucchini cake" might be on the to-do list. We are getting the first very much needed rain in several weeks so no garden time. I love baking on rainy days...much cooler too.
CW...Your prescription for a little R & R is perfect. Thing is, I just don't bounce back as quickly as I once did. But when I get really busy, I tend to forget about that part. :)
Glad to hear your garden is producing well. I have been hearing of so many who are having problems due to the lousy spring. I have lots of corn dried. It rehydrates so very well and I like to grind it to add to cornmeal for cornbread. I still have a freezer full of chickens to can and I want to do another batch of baked beans - maybe next week.
The thought of your chocolate zucchini cake made it almost necessary to find a drool bib! I am also fond of zucchini bread made with crushed pineapple. I may have to whine to my daughter to get a couple of zukes to bake with. I saw on the weather radar that Iowa was getting rain today. As usual, it seems to be missing us, although we had a little over the weekend. At least it is cooler and for that I am grateful.
Admit it. You over did it canning...Please remember to take it easy. I have been napping more. its the cool weather. Its almost vitamin time. Sept 1st I start up for the season. Daily until May 1st
Vicki, thought I would let you know... I made the English Muffin recipe shared on the Prep School Daily site. Wow, I am never buying store-bought English Muffins again. The recipe made a dozen so if need be I am sure they could be put in the freezer and used when desired. They were so good that the guys didn't even toast them. They sliced them into two halves, put a little butter and some homemade apple jelly on them and ate them while still warm. Easy peasy...and better than I expected!
Hope you are getting your strength back and feeling like yourself again...CW
Thanks for letting me know, CW...I am impressed with her blog. I have been finding all sorts of good information there, but haven't gotten into the recipes yet. As a fan of English Muffins, I will give them a try. I am not crazy about most of the the store bought ones.
I must be getting better for I feel a rant for the blog coming on! My grocery order comes Thursday and this time I refrained from ordering anything that needs to be canned, dried or frozen - just staples like flour, oatmeal, cornmeal, etc. Another day should bring me back to whatever passes for normal these days. :)
Mom of four, Grandma of six, and Great Grandma of two, who writes about events both past and present, about preparedness and an occasional rant tossed in for good measure, as well as anything else that happens to come to mind, and who enjoys my retired life in general.
I'll say an extra prayer for you, Vicki.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gorges...You and the Mrs. and the Mighty Dachshund are always in mine.
DeleteVicki~ Are your fluid levels and electrolytes ok? It's been hot and humid in your neck of the woods. Red

DeleteI have some yawning brain cells. Do make sure you are hydrated. I got too hot a month ago.
ReplyDeleteLinda...I always have a liquid near - coffee, lemonade, lots of water. A couple days resting will fix me right up. :)
DeleteBlessings, Vicki. Our prayers are with you and yours.

ReplyDeleteRob...Guilty as charged. Canning and a couple of other things. Getting better now that the weather has cooled down some.
