Let's Call it a Protest

On the heels of a mandatory, state wide mask order by the communist governor of Minnesota, a friend wrote the following piece.  He is a Viet Nam Vet, a retired policeman and someone who has my complete trust and respect.

"I was asked why I don’t take Covid and the mask situation seriously. I said that I do take the virus seriously. I believe the people who are disseminating the information to us have a long, long track record of lying to and showing dismissive contempt for American citizens as a whole.

At one point, the disease was supposed to have a 5% death rate. The death rate has now been reduced to less than 1/3 of 1% worldwide. The truth is I’m not opposed to masks at all. Much like carrying a firearm, I won’t shame anyone for deciding to wear one or not. Sort of a “my body, my choice” situation I suppose.

However, when considering the trustworthiness of information coming from our politicians, I’ve been unable to reconcile the fact that 200,000 people protesting in the streets is met with little to no concern, but a bar, restaurant or hair salon with 10 people in it could be disastrous. The idea that a Trump rally of 18,000 people is a significant risk but a group of 20,000 students tearing down statues isn’t, leaves me perplexed.

Further, how could you possibly take anyone seriously who mandates that free citizens stay at home and wear masks in public but also calls for the acceptance of millions of immigrants entering our society illegally with no record of immunizations against more common and deadly diseases every day.

The truth is that our political “leaders,” just like with guns, drugs, our national debt or sex trafficking, have absolutely no idea what they’re talking about and no plan outside of what’s handed to them 6 seconds before they reach the podium.

So I choose to protect myself as I see fit. If anyone doesn’t like it, I’m ok with that. Just think of it as a “protest.” That seems to be ok with many people."

  1. Thumbs up! We all need to question each and every demand or mandate from those in leadership positions. Then and only then, after careful consideration of facts, are we able to determine what is best for us. Remember...the government is not our best friend. Thank you for sharing the piece with us, Vicki.

    1. CW...These little tin gods who are drunk on power are messing with our Constitutional rights and need to be stopped. They can make suggestions, but we can either agree or not. It is not up to them. It is up to us, because after all, they work for us, not the other way around. When I read this piece from my friend, I knew I wanted to share it. It is well thought out and correct in so many ways.

    1. One Family...My friend said it better than I could. If we don't speak out now, soon we may not have the freedom to do so.

  3. Bravo...Its just like the kids game Simon says.. "Put your mask on"...,yeah right. "Gov Waltz says Put on your mask" OMG we need to do what he says

    1. Rob...And if we refuse to do what he says, we risk being fined. That is just wrong.

  4. Over-the-moon Leftist relative: "But the masks and the lockdowns are for the common good!!!"

Me: Explain to me then, why I can't go to church, but the casino four miles away is allowed to stay open."

    ...Crickets...

    Damn... That was easy...

    1. Pete...When I hear the words, "It is for the common good," I worry. Nothing these days is for the common good. Everything is about grabbing and keeping power. Your point is absolutely spot on.

  5. Our Progressive mayor, Lord Ozymandias, has mandated masks and a partial lockdown again. Nearly everyone I know is openly ignoring it. We put on masks to get past the door security (!) at Wally World, and then take them off again once inside. It's all a farce, designed to train us to comply with whatever is next. Americans refuse to comply.

    1. Rev. Paul.. It does seem like a trial balloon, doesn't it. Just to see how much we'll take...

I will say, also, that I'm dismayed at how many so-called Americans do comply.

    2. Rev. Paul and Lucy, I'm one of the "so-called Americans". I've been exposed to this disease twice, and have been lucky enough not to catch it. I'm one of the people at high risk of severe disease or death. I've had half a dozen coworkers catch it. Two of them spent several weeks in the hospital and in ICU. One of them almost died. Another one was completely asymptomatic. Since I am one of the ones likely to get a severe case, I do what I can to protect myself. That helps me to keep the bills paid, keep a roof over my families head and food on the table. I wear the damn mask for my own health and the health of my family. I spent four years in the U.S. Navy during the Desert Storm time period. I take real offense to being called a "so-called American". Can it not possibly be that a lot of people are complying just because they want to do SOMETHING to TRY to protect themselves?!

    3. Rev. Paul...I am still convinced the mandates are no more than a beta test to see how far they can push the general public before we fight back. I understand that this virus is deadly to some. So are a lot of other things. But many are acting like frightened children hiding from the boogie man. We need to grow a collective spine and refuse to comply with the nonsense.

    4. Navy91...I understand your concern. I, too, am one of those at risk. Should I catch this virus, chances are pretty good it would kill me. I do what I need to do to take care of myself. But I do not expect others to comply with orders that are no more than a political power grab. Each person has to make that choice for themselves rather than being treated like dim-witted children. I wouldn't mind so much if the mandates were equal for all. They are not. Abortion clinics are open but churches are closed. Family gatherings of more than 10 people are forbidden but crowds of rioters can cause mayhem across this nation without consequences. I might consider complying with the orders when they are equally mandated, but not before.

    6. Spot on, Matt...If you and I did even a fraction of the lying, cheating and stealing of some of our elected officials, we would spend our days looking at the world from behind iron bars. Those who mandate lockdowns, mask wearing, etc. should suffer the same consequences as those whose lives have been ruined by those mandates. Our governor has made it clear that noncompliance will be paid for with a $100 fine. So that is what exercising our Constitutional rights will cost those who have not been able to work for months. May the fleas from a thousand camels take up residence in his boxers.

  7. Very well said! I'm all for those who wish to wear a masking doing so, but do not tell me I must. As an adult and a citizen with Constitutional rights, I can make that decision for myself.

    1. Anon...I have no problem with anyone who feels the need to wear a mask. Or with those who 'social distance.' But I am fully capable of making that decision for myself and I deeply resent those who tell me I am not. Thing is, what's next?

  8. Navy91... My sincerest apologies. Referring to folks who chose to wear a mask as “so-called Americans” was uncalled for.

    1. And you have my apologies as well. I completely overreacted. Funny thing is, I agree with the sentiments everyone has expressed. The masks should not have been mandatory. We're all grown people and can make our own decisions. Frankly, I think our state and federal responses have been staggeringly incompetent. And it really doesn't help that you can get conflicting information from a dozen different sources. They've turned it into a political football and that just makes me ill as a snake. Never let a crisis go to waste right? Whoever started that ought to be shot. I'll get down off my soapbox now, sorry.

    2. Navy91...You are welcome to get up on your soapbox here any time. Lord knows, mine gets a workout often! I think we all are getting frustrated with the whole thing. I understand the seriousness of the virus. But I am so very tired of being told that at age 74 I haven't enough common sense to make my own decisions as to how to take care of myself. Toss into the mix a few riots and some looting, the defacing of our monuments and the burning of small businesses and nothing makes sense any more. Add to that the fact that we are lied to on a regular basis and, well, we all are getting a bit testy. That being said and kicking my own soapbox back into the corner, opinions are welcome here. The only thing I will not tolerate is hatred. I hope you will continue to join in.

  9. Vicki~ I'd rather not wear a mask, makes my allergies worse and my skin to break out. As a breast cancer survivor I'm in the high risk group. I've survived getting shot at, stabbed and six miscarriages. Catching Covid it not the worst thing that could happen to me. I'm not afraid of death, nor do I have a fear of the unknown. We need to stop being afraid and take back our individual power. Various State and County governments are acting like abusive spouses. It's time to DIVORCE THE BASTARDS! Red

    1. Wow, Red...You have really been through the wars, haven't you. I think that those of us who have lived through some ugly stuff are far better able to deal with the fear. And everywhere you look, the fear is being touted. Numbers of cases - numbers of deaths - numbers of those potential deaths if we don't follow along like sheep. And none of it accurate.

I also am not afraid of death. My faith has dissolved any fear. Not long ago someone asked me if I was afraid to die and I replied that to me, it was just moving on - going home.

Those government officials have forgotten that they work for us. You are right - we need to take back our individual power and just say "Nope. Not gonna comply. Not now. Not ever."

    2. Vicki~ They forget one truly crucial thing. There are more of US than them. Or maybe that's the reason for the lock downs. Red

    3. Red...Of course that is one reason for lockdowns. And 'social distancing.' And all the rest. Keep us fearful. Keep us apart. So many are already considering this behavior as 'normal' when it is anything but. How many are willing to take a stand against this tyranny.
