I meant to get back here sooner...

but I sort of got busy.

My grocery order was delivered Thursday.  It included 6 lbs. of frozen peas that turned into 25 half pint jars of canned peas.

There were 4 nice sized pork roasts that were on sale.  One went into the freezer.  The other three roasted in a slow oven all morning on Friday.  When cooled, they were shredded and on Saturday combined with 6 lbs. of frozen mixed vegetables, thawed and heated.  Each pint jar got 1/2 cup of meat and 1 cup of veggies along with a chicken bouillon cube and water.  This made 20 pints of soup.  There was leftover meat, so 3 pints of it were canned with the soup.

Finding room for food storage in a three room apartment can be a challenge, so I expect to do some serious rearranging to find space for it all.  Some might say that I have accumulated enough, but it is my opinion, especially in the uncertain days ahead, that we keep on preparing like our lives depended on it.

They just might.

  1. When “some” start paying your bills, then they can tell you when you’ve accumulated enough.

    1. Also ms. Vickie, that would probably be the same “some” that isn’t putting up anything at all.

    2. You are spot on, Matt...Some say we are crazy and others call us food hoarders. But when push comes to shove, it is our families who will eat.

  2. Yeah, Vicki, you need to keep your blog in order or we might have to dock your pay! ;-)

    1. Good afternoon, sbrgirl...These days, going to the dentist for a root canal is better than reading the news!! I check it once in a while just to see what the enemy is up to, but I would rather spend my time putting food in jars. :)

  4. I agree with Matt. If anyone would dare criticize all of your efforts and willingness to help family when the poo flies, they will be the very same ones demanding that you give it all to them. They will have wasted their time being smug and hating on those who try to help themselves. Vicki, you are excused for not having the time to post...lol. Love to hear from you in between your preparations. CW

I have no real excuse for the lack of posts other than time just seems to fly by and before I know it, a week has passed. I promised Gorges above that I would do better and I will try. :)

  5. For my two cents - you've got your priorities right. I'm not going anywhere as a reader and I bet most people who stop by here feel the same.

My task this morning was to take my car out and see if the 'work' the mechanic did on it last week solved the issue. It purred along just fine. I'm grateful to have a car that's still working.

    1. SJ...Thanks for the vote of confidence. Sometimes life just gets in the way and before I know it, a week has passed without being in touch. I am grateful to so many who hang in there with me.
Glad to hear your car is running as it should. Nobody needs the added stress of a balky vehicle. There is enough stress these days without adding to it. Take care.

  6. Vicki~ Speaking of space. Our Son came down to get some work done because the power was turned off in his neighborhood due to winds. When he walked into the guest room, he stopped, waited a minute, came out and asked "Mom. What's in the boxes?" So I explained what was there and why. He then said "But I thought you were done?" Nope there was a SALE and FREE SHIPPING. Oh Okay.

Then there are some articles which gave me pause and also caused me to be pissed off.

    1. Red...It is my notion that preparing is something that does not end. Especially if we are using what we store and then replace what we use. My kids have come to the place where they just ask about what I am canning/dehydrating this week. :)

Thank you for the links. I will take a look at them this evening when I settle in for the night. And I fully expect if they made you mad, they will likely have the same effect on me. Even so, we need to know what is going on in order to know what is coming. And yes - a day of reckoning is way overdue!!

    2. Red...I looked at them all. We have been played. Big time. And the VX will do more harm than good, but nobody seems to care. Take note of the steam coming from my ears!

TO MY READERS...I beg you to take a look at the links above that Red provided. We the people are being used and abused. And if we continue to comply, we are guilty of wrecking ourselves.

    4. deb...Everyone has their own way of looking at things, but that doesn't label them as strange. I am hearing bad things about the upcoming vaccine. I don't understand why it is needed as there are medications already out there that will stop the virus in its tracks. I can see no reason to vaccinate against a disease that has an over 99% recovery rate.

  7. Vicki, you should write a book on how you find places to PUT all your preps! You could hire yourself out as a CONSULTANT!

As for the "some," let 'em criticize away! Best-case scenario, nothing happens, and you have plenty to eat! Worst-case, the fit hits the shan, and you're ready for it! I don't think you're going to find the folks who read your blog stomping on your philosophy... Heck; we're just wondering when you're gonna run outa ROOM!

    1. Pete...I have kind of a unique situation here in my little apartment in that due to respiratory health issues, sleeping flat in a bed makes breathing difficult. Because of that, my bedroom is now a store room. I can get away with this arrangement mostly because I live alone.

I once had someone who came in to do some repair work remark after seeing my shelves full of home canned food, "What on earth are you going to do with all that." He was absolutely dumbfounded when I replied, "Eat it." On the other hand and much to my delight, a couple of the nurses who come in to deal with my legs have been inspired by my canning efforts - seeing my kitchen table loaded with food in jars, cooling, - to go on and begin preparations of their own. Makes me happy when one more person sees the light.

I am blessed to have so many people who come here who get it. Just to know there are others out there who understand that the times we are living in are unsettled at best and mostly uncertain, gives me comfort and spurs me on to continue even when the odds seem overwhelming. God bless each and every one.

  8. Prepping is a lifestyle...my family, extended, have thought I was off my bean for years. when we had to move, a major one several years ago all I heard was grumbling about all the boxes labeled "food". Well that food got us by several months as hubby was settling into a new job and such. Having food on hand has been a God send during this china flu mess. We are blessed to have the resources to provide for much of our meat, eggs and milk...believe me I thank God everyday for that. I can as well, we had a fair garden, we are currently in a drought. But like you I shop sales and have a closet that is entirely set aside for my stash. My concern is the coming VX. Neither my husband nor myself will take it. I think it could come down to not being able to go into a store at some point. If people think that is an unreal situation, look at NM right now. Ms Gov. has shut grocery stores in some areas. I have family and friends in that state and its true. Just remember everything they do has purpose behind it. Maybe that was a trail run at how the people would react?? Enjoy your blog!

    1. Ranch wife...Thanks for your insightful comment. I am in complete agreement with prepping being a lifestyle. Having grown up with parents who canned and froze food to last through the harsh Minnesota winters, the idea of putting food back just became second nature. I was amazed to discover how few considered being prepared something of importance. My opinion - with all the insanity surrounding us these days, I would rather be considered 'off my bean' than to see one of my family go hungry.

Too many have the mistaken notion that one has to have several acres of land, the appropriate number of chickens and livestock and a huge garden in order to prepare. Not true. Every bit of my food storage now comes from the grocery stores. I would rather have the chickens and the garden, but we learn to use the resources available to us.

I had heard about grocery stores closing in NM. For those who are not prepared, that could be catastrophic! That smacks of trying to starve folks into submission. I absolutely believe this is not about a virus. And just for the record, I will not get anywhere near the VX. I think it is a beta test for things to come. If they can get everyone to wear a face diaper, then what else can they get us to do. I think our mantra has to be "I will not comply."
