Youngest son works for a landscaping company. They do lawn care in the summer, among other things, and they plow snow in the winter. David needs to keep track of the weather in order to know what his crews will be doing on any given day. They can't do much of their outside work in the rain. When the summer temperatures soar, David knows it is time to take large coolers of Gatorade around to the workers. He needs to know how much winter snowfall is expected in order to schedule the plowing crews. So he gets daily weather reports. Sometimes he shares them on Facebook. Like this one today.
"Turning cloudy and very windy behind a very strong cold front this morning. Highs will only reach the upper 40s. Light rain showers likely this evening with possible snow mixing in late evening into early tomorrow morning. Cloudy and still cold tomorrow with a high in the upper 40s. Mostly cloudy and warmer Sunday with a high in the lower 50s."
You want me? I'll be right over there in my recliner, cup of hot chocolate on the table next to me, Kindle in hand, covered chin to toes in my big green fuzzy blanket.
No, I do not want to talk about the Great Minnesota Halloween Blizzard of 1991.

Recliner: check. Hot chocolate not from a package mix: check. Fuzzy afghan: check. Even though I live in Floruba, my Indiana roots are telling me it's time to get cozy.
ReplyDeleteDana...Bingo! You are right on the money. The hot chocolate is from a mix, but it is a mix I make myself and has malted milk powder in it. Wonderful stuff! I am hoping for a few more warm days, but as you well know, we who are from the tundra can't count on any warm from now on!
ReplyDelete++1 The boys bought winter coats today, I bought boots with a dual purpose, one for CAP the other for the flour that the heavens will drop before we know it. Hot coffee in the am and sugar free hot cocoa at night. Youngest daughter is at the Homecoming football game tonight she will be frozen by end of game.
ReplyDeleteRob...It seems that however late winter arrives, I'm still not ready for it. I'm nearly ready with the preps, but my mental attitude sure is lacking in being ready!! Poor Hannah. What an awful night for a football game. The wind is still howling around the corners like it has been all day. Hope we get a few more warmer days before everything freezes over.
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky today, temperature around 70 with a slight breeze and a high pressure building so the next week looks really nice. I do not like winter, period. If I had a choice at this point I would be somewhere in southern Arizona when the weather turns cold. My body just doesn't tolerate the cold anymore, especially my joints.
ReplyDeleteJim...We in Minnesota feel it is our God given right to complain about the weather. :) But we will probably have a few more lovely days like you are enjoying before the snow falls and stays. I understand what you are saying about not tolerating the cold any more. The colder it gets the more my joints loudly protest! My oldest son just moved to Phoenix to get away from the cold here, and I can't blame him for it. But I moved back here 18 years ago so I could watch my grandkids grow up. I will put up with most anything to be able to do that.
ReplyDeleteVicki - You've got the right idea.
ReplyDeleteSob, I wish winter wasn't leaving here so quickly... ;)
Dani...I think if I lived in a climate where the winters were mild, I would probably enjoy the cooler weather. But when the snow is falling and the winds are howling and the temperatures are falling, a good book and a warm fuzzy blanket are my best friends. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Farmer's Almanac may be right, and The Weather Channel may be wrong. TWC promised a mild winter. If so, it's starting out the wrong way here in the Blue Ridge mountains.
ReplyDeleteHarry...I'm betting on the Farmer's Almanac. They seem to get it right most of the time. So far our fall has been cold and wet. The snow missed us here but I heard that parts of the northern counties had a dusting. I'm hoping for a couple more nice days before everything freezes over. Hope springs eternal.
