So yesterday I was in the middle of having my legs treated by the home health care nurse. She is a sweetheart. There is some pain involved in the process and she works hard to minimize it and yet do what is necessary.
Anyway, in the middle of all that, Youngest Son showed up. He had pictures on his phone of his family on vacation last week. They stayed in a cabin just south of the Minnesota Boundary Waters area. No wi-fi, no cell service, just them and nature.
While the nurse worked on my legs, David scrolled through the pictures on his phone, showing my grands swimming in the crystal clear lake, fishing, canoeing and enjoying the scenery from the deck of a pontoon. The dog particularly loved pontoon rides. I was having so much fun looking at the pictures that I didn't even notice when the nurse had finished her work. :)
David says he will transfer the pictures to a flash drive for me. I may show you some of the beautiful scenery then.
This evening, after a less than stellar day, Oldest Son showed up with a package of deli corned beef, my favorite lunch meat for sandwiches. When it is so very hot outdoors, I really dislike using the stove. The corned beef will get me through with cold suppers for a few days, assuring that my apartment stays cool.
And Duane also brought me a bag of my favorite fruit - cherries. It is amazing how something as simple as a bag of cherries can lift a person's spirits.
Doesn't matter how old sons become - they still look after their Mama. :)

Some do, some don't, Vicki, but you're blessed with the good kind.
ReplyDeleteGorges...They aren't very subtle about it. Younger one called. I asked if he was checking up on me. He said, 'Absolutely!'
DeleteI thank God every day for giving me good kids.
You certainly raised some fine men.
ReplyDeleteIt's been hot here as well and I've been running my trusty air conditioner. It's one of those portable models on wheels and vents out the window. Mr Dog enjoys lying in front of the cool air, hair blowing as he chews his bone.
I've been in the garden the last few mornings watering. No real work to speak of other then running the hoses around. I have a huge bowl of peas to shell and zucchini coming out my ears!! Love the fresh veggies. I'll shred the squash for the freezer.
Cheers, SJ
SJ...I'm with Mr. Dog - well, maybe except for the bone chewing part. :) I set up a fan in front of the floor vent to better circulate the cool air and it seems to be working. I'm ready for fall now!
DeleteI always had to plant double the peas because the kids would raid the garden and eat the peas raw. I like them that way, too, so instead of getting mad at them, I just planted more peas. Did you ever try slicing smaller zucchini and frying it up along with sliced onion? My family liked that dish, especially when fried in butter.
Yes,my usual way to cook the summer squash or zucchini is to cut into rounds and then fry in olive oil with a little minced garlic and red pepper flakes. I'll add diced onion if I have it. Then just salt and pepper. Yum. The shredded squash is for the excess. It's coming on strong right now and I can't quite keep up with eating it fresh.
DeleteMy other favorite is to combine the shredded squash with a beaten egg and some bread crumbs to make a patty. Fry it up and then serve it with soy sauce. It's my adaptation of a recipe in the More with Less cookbook.
Cheers, SJ
Cherries certainly make my day!
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Linda. Absolutely love them!
DeleteFamily visits make the day go by way better
ReplyDeleteRob...Sure does make the day better, even if you are having a good day to begin with. I always love having the kids and grands stop by. :)
DeleteA visit with mom always makes my day better.
ReplyDeleteLove you, David
Son...Whether it is an in person visit or a phone call - it's all good. I love you, too.
