Made My Day

Sometimes it is the simplest of things that provide the most joy.

I have been just a bit under the weather.  I am not really sick.  I think I am just fighting off an oncoming cold.  I am tired and very low energy.  Might be just a case of winter blahs or laziness.  Most likely laziness.  :)

Anyway, Duane stopped in to tell me he had been to the grocery store where he bought a nice ham that he will bake for our dinner tomorrow.  I will provide scalloped potatoes and a vegetable.  He said he had dessert covered.  We do this now and then.  When you live alone it is nice to cook for more than just one person and to have company for a meal.

Then from behind his back he produced a lovely tin filled with chocolates.  I love chocolate.  I have been known to call Duane of an evening and ask if he had anything chocolate he would be willing to share.  I have no shame when it comes to chocolate.

But it wasn't the chocolates that really made my day.

I asked Duane what had I done to deserve such a treat.

He simply replied, "You're my Mom."

    1. CW...It will be a long road to complete recovery, but he is doing well. I had to smile at your comment. Most times when he does something for me, I say, "You are a good son," to which he replies, "I know!" :)

    1. Gorges...I can't take all the credit. He had the influence of two parents.

    2. We're having an exceptionally mild winter so far. One of my gardening friends is considering planting! I'm not quite that optimistic.
MrDog is snoring beside me as I type. I had a dentist appointment this week which knocked the stuffing out of me, energy wise. So I've been hunkering down watching dvds and reading the latest by Susan Wittig Albert. I'm totally engrossed in her mystery series about the fictional life of Beatrix Potter.
Spring will be here. Keep cozy.

    3. SJ...It has been unseasonably warm here, so I really don't have much to complain about, weather wise. The weather guessers say it will be down to single digit temps by Friday. Shouldn't matter to me as I won't be going out until spring. Perhaps it is just the idea of long winter months that work on a person. Youngest son wants me to pray for snow so he can get his snow removal crews back to work, but so far, no snow on the horizon.

I'm with Mr. Dog!! Just finished a lovely ham dinner complete with cherry pie and ice cream, and as soon as dishes are washed I believe it will be time for me to snore a bit. :)

I have just been reading a little here and there from my Kindle, but once the crochet work slows down, I feel the need to lose myself in a good mystery. I wrote down the name of the author you mentioned and will check my library to see if they have her books in downloadable form. If not, Amazon may become my friend!

  5. What you need is a sunny filled day around 65 wind blowing in the windows to pick up your energy. Keep plugging along winter is half over. Besides Twins start spring training in about 30 days. Party on Gma.

    1. Rev. Paul...I am blessed with four kids who take pretty good care of their mom. Both my parents have been gone for a long time now and I, too, miss being able to do for them.
