Coronavirus

Every day brings more and more videos and articles concerning the Coronavirus that had it's beginnings in China.  What to believe.  Do governments tell us the truth or do they withhold information to prevent panic among citizens.  Do those reporting on the virus know what they are talking about or are they just guessing like the rest of us.  I don't know.

Yesterday one of my blog friends (thanks, Red) left this link in the comment section.  Turns out it is the most informative video I have seen to date, without all the sensationalism of other videos.   It is worth your time to view.  I'll wait.

Me...I am taking a 'wait and see' attitude, but I don't intend to wait too long.  I am vulnerable due to my age and health issues.  The one thing I have going for me is that I am housebound.  I go out once a year in April to visit my doctor and get prescriptions renewed.  If this virus seems to be spreading here I will take steps to severely limit visitors.  My goal in life, after all, is to live long enough to be a problem to my children.  Some declare I have achieved success in that area already.  :)

I don't think anyone on the planet really knows how this all will play out.  Mostly we need to pay attention and take common sense precautions.

And pray.

  1. I'm with you. We keep very close to home these days. My wife was always after me about getting a flu shot. Never did. But you work at the airport, Yes I do. My exposer time to others was limited. While flight crews had hours of contact I had less then 10 min from the time I opened the galley service door until I closed it again. Always wore gloves even in summer. Washed my hands every chance I got.

First thing the clinic ask now and have for many years, "Have you traveled outside the US.." Hell no not getting sick

    1. Rob...We just don't know how this will play out. It may spread like wildfire or it may just burn itself out. But until we know for sure, it is foolish to take chances. I wonder if clinics are now asking if patients have traveled to China.

  2. During the Spanish flu epidemic, the government either lied or held back information to "prevent a panic." That led to army guys from the base where the American outbreak began being shipped all over the place, spreading the virus like wildfire. A transport ship hit port back East and a bunch of these guys went to a parade. I believe it was in Philadelphia. The local government didn't want to cancel the parade because of the flu "to prevent a panic." The death toll there was somewhere around 1700.

Hygiene and medical knowledge are better now. Then again, modern transportation is such that one infected aircrew could spread any given virus worldwide in 24 hours. "Patieant zero" for AIDS in the U.S. was an infected flight attendant. Also, there's STILL no cure for ANY flu.

I don't panic. I don't believe everything the government either does or doesn't tell me. I DO prepare. As the old prepper adage goes; "Panic now. Avoid the rush!"

    1. Pete..."Panic now. Avoid the rush." I think there may have been a small amount of panic when I started prepping in earnest. The time to panic is over. Now it is just maintaining a deep pantry and adding as much to it as possible.

I take anything coming from any government official with a grain of salt. If I had to bet, my money would be on lies and damned lies. I seriously doubt we are being told anything even close to the truth. I wonder how high the body count will have to go before someone accidently talks truth.

Life will continue on. I have to wonder how many infected people will attend the Super Bowl. Or how many are strolling through the Mall of America. Or attending school classes.

I truly pray this thing just burns itself out with minimal damage. But I am not counting on it.

  3. Vicki~ It is being surmised that China can't feed all of its people. That the "Virus" was created in their level 4 lab site 20 miles away from the outbreak city it reared its ugly head. Blame the corona virus on snake or bat meat and no problem. Oh Well. A release to see what happens and lots of people sicken and die. Less Citizens, less need to find enough food to feed the previous level of citizens. The only thing I can think of is the survivors should have some type of immunity even with the potential health issues afterwards. What will be surprising are the people with a natural immunity to this particular virus family. I'd be making an exit stage right and disappear to some where else. Being treated like a lab rat will not be a good outcome. Stay safe and careful everyone. Know where your towel is. Red

    1. Red... have been hearing the same thing. I have also heard that what is being called a coronavirus could actually be pneumonic plague created in the self same lab for the reasons you stated. I don't know if that is true or not. What I do know is there are way too many coincidences for the story they are putting out to be accurate.
And you are spot on about those with a natural immunity. I do believe I would run as fast and as far as possible.
What trips my trigger is that our government is taking no precautions at all. Planes from China are still landing at our airports. Ships loaded with Chinese goods are still docking and unloading at our ports. With an incubation period of up to two weeks and knowing that this virus is contagious before symptoms develop, taking passenger's temperatures at airports is about as useless as tits on a boar. (Unless, of course, the boar identifies as a female hog.) I'm sorry. Sometimes if I can't laugh, I am tempted to sit in a corner and just cry about how insanely stupid the elite who are in charge of keeping we the people safe have become.

Me...I'm taking whatever precautions I can. Stay safe, my friend.

    2. Vicki~ Anything that was already at sea should be safe. *prays* With the planes even if we stopped the direct flights, people would find a way around getting here from another starting location. Safety First everyone. Be mindful of cleanliness and as my dentist says "Treat Everyone as if they have Aids or Hepatitis, and you won't pass it or get it." Red

    3. Red...You are right. People always find a way to get from Point A to Point B, if they want to badly enough. I have to wonder how many ships left Chinese ports headed here since the outbreak of this virus. Your dentist is wise.

  5. Here is a link about the different kids of masks a person can wear. It also includes what the mask will and won't do. Red

  6. Personally, I think China is having a typical year with a variant of viruses they have often. With the recent trade agreement, the need for China to have some bargaining chips, and the knowledge they're not going to make the current administration budge on how they deal with China trade, blowing this out of proportion allows leverage against those needing their goods.

I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in my truck, which I use after any contact with the public. Also, I avoid people that are obviously ill. I do this to avoid contamination from an influenza variation that could lead to a pandemic. The flu I had when I was younger was horrible to endure. At my age now, such an event could lead to hospitalization, and the threat of death.

    1. Jess...That makes sense. It also makes sense that governments - ours, theirs - are less than forthcoming about how bad this particular virus is. Taking into consideration my age and health issues, I, too, can not afford to be cavalier about the threat of either a virus or the standard, garden variety flu. Nasty stuff! No matter how this plays out, precautions are necessary. Take care and stay well!!
