Quit Coddling the Criminals

Some of you may remember that last November a lunatic living in my building trashed his apartment, tried to set the building on fire and escaped by jumping out a second story window. The police caught him and took him to the hospital for evaluation. Turns out he wasn't crazy. He was mean.

His wife, a lovely lady who worked hard to support herself and her husband, was devastated. My landlord offered her another apartment, but she went to live elsewhere.

Yesterday I heard sirens close by. Today my landlord was here, fixing a light in my kitchen. He told me the sad news.

The sirens I heard were the rescue people rushing to an intersection three blocks from my building. The lunatic had stabbed his wife. She died at the scene.

I want to know why he wasn't in jail. He tried to kill everyone in my building by disconnecting the gas range and then lighting a fire. We are incredibly lucky the building didn't blow sky high.

I was under the impression that attempted murder was a crime.

To the morons who keep letting the lunatics back out on the streets: You are just as responsible for the death of this lady as is the one wielding the knife. God may forgive you, but I'm pretty sure I can't.

  1. God will deal with criminals and bureaucratic scum. Sadly, that doesn't always help us in the meanwhile.

    1. I know you are right, Gorges...but it angers me that a nice lady lost her life because those same scum won't do their jobs.

  2. Then again, there are those folks who protested their way into the Capitol building who've been sitting in jail for six months... with no due process.

Y'know, Vicki, in the past I often thought of how a civil war would "break everything." My question today is "What ISN'T broken?" Truly; at this point, what do we have to lose?...

    1. Pete...It is worse than I thought. This lady was beheaded. At 2:30 in the afternoon. In the middle of the street. In an ordinarily quiet small town. By someone who had no right to be out of jail.

My youngest son and I were just now talking about this. And about the state of our country right now. His remark was that we really need to take our country back. Pete, you are spot on. We have absolutely nothing, at this point, to lose!

    2. I so agree with both of you. God help and Bless America.

    3. Nursejoan...I think there are many who feel the same way but are unwilling or afraid to say so. This simply can not continue!

    4. I absolutely agree with y’all! I don’t understand why we, as a country, have let it get to this state. Something will have to give soon.

  3. I remember reading that in your blog a while back. This murder is so horrible. at the time I thought if he actually burning the building down you would lose all your hard work and food but of course this is so much worse. I cant imagine. There is so much crime and so many awful things that go on. I am not able to understand this at all

    1. Ann...Stuff can be replaced. People can't. I don't understand either - the kind of evil that makes someone do something like this. This was not his first rodeo. He had been arrested for domestic abuse before. He was waiting for his trial for trying to burn down my building. But there he was. Walking the streets. Knife in hand. The lady had a name. It was America Thayer. If there were still any kind of justice left she would still be alive. I wonder what it will take for good people to fight back.

Sorry for the rant, but this really bothers me. I appreciate your comment.

  4. That is just so so sad. These people in charge, who just look a blind eye to someone like him should be held accountable. Yet they are not and none of them seem to ever have any problem looking at themselves in the mirror or sleeping at night.

    1. One Family...Have you noticed that those in charge are never held accountable for their actions? When you let someone out of jail with low bail - someone who tried to burn down my home and came a hairs breadth from killing every resident here - what on earth makes them think he will behave when out on the streets. Common sense apparently is no longer in use.

    2. Vicki, the more I see of this the more I am convinced it’s not stupidity or lack of common sense. It’s plain evil!

    3. LTM...Evil is the only explanation I can find for what was done to this poor woman. But stupidity and lack of common sense put the evil back on the streets where he could kill. There is a price that needs to be paid for that.

  5. Vicki, the problem I have with saying the judge was stupid or had no common sense is that it feels to me like giving him a pass somehow. We agree that a price needs to be paid but for me, the price for evil is significantly more than just being stupid.

    1. LTM...Sometimes I am not very clear in my meaning. Stupidity or lack of common sense does not apply to the lunatic. He, in my opinion, is pure evil and needs to be punished accordingly.

I don't know the judge in this case, so I can not say whether he is stupid or evil. But because of his actions, a woman lost her life in the most horrific of ways and for that, he needs to be held accountable and suffer some real consequences.
