Taking a Few Days Off

I have a major canning session coming up after my grocery delivery on Thursday.  Duane and Lori picked up 6 cases of pint jars and 3 cases of half pints for me.  I hope that will be enough.  At any rate, I am taking a few days off to deal with those pesky domestic chores that need my attention before I am knee-deep in home canned stuff.  Instructions and a recipe or two to follow.  Meanwhile, those folks listed over there in the sidebar have all sorts of interesting things to say.  Enjoy.

  1. I think I need a day off too. Oh my gosh I woke up so tired today. I think I over did my work and pushed a bit hard. Oye. I don't have any canning on the list, but the spring cleaning is doing a number on me.

    1. Kristina...Sometimes we just need a day to recover when we are pushing ourselves to the limit. Me...I have odds and ends that need to be done here. My grocery order, aside from milk and eggs, is all ingredients for canning so I know once that arrives on Thursday, nothing else will get done. Canning days my kitchen mostly looks like a food truck blew up in the middle of it, so I want to be able to at least start out with it clean. :)

Good luck with the spring cleaning. Seems like that is always a chore after having the house closed up all winter.

  2. Your son and Lori are saints. No questions about it.
And thanks for the heads up about taking a break. I look here just about daily and it's nice to know you're busy.
Just back from the thrift's senior's day - scored 10 pint jars for $2.09 plus tax. Yipee. Their pricing is definitely seasonal, imo, as the jar prices are higher in the summer.
    Cheers, SJ

    1. SJ...You are right. Not only do they help when needed, they put up with this grumpy old woman as well. That alone requires the patience of a saint. :)

Great deal on the jars! Wish our thrift stores would price jars like that.

Taking a quick sit down at the moment to give legs and back a bit of a rest. Trying to do fun stuff like mop the kitchen floor and clean the bathroom before Thursday. Once the groceries arrive, aside from Easter dinner with Duane and Lori, I will be up to my chubby bum in canning jars. Probably shouldn't have planned to do so much, but I have this nagging suspicion that things, both worldwide and here, aren't going to get better any time soon. Feel like I should do as much as I can while I still can. Perhaps my tinfoil hat is on too tight, but there it is. I will be posting Friday about the kielbasa. Nice to know you stop by often. :)

    2. When I re-organized my one closet over the weekend, I found boxes upon boxes of aluminum foil. I can remake my own tinfoil hat for years to come. Ha!!
      Happy Easter! SJ

    3. That's funny SJ...I, too, have enough tinfoil stashed, so I'm good!!
      Happy Easter to you, too.

  3. I know when I plan to can, nothing else will get done. It's nice to have something cooked to save time.

    1. Linda...It is the same here. That's why I am taking a few days to do what needs to be done so I an concentrate on the canning.

  4. You are going to fire more food?? What did they do to you?? Food needs a safe place to be, so they can voice there own opinion, without some crabby old lady firing everyone of them...
