It is hot. The temperature is headed toward the 90's with a heat index of at least 100. The humidity is in the 80's. I know this is nothing compared with what our friends in the South live through, but we Yankees just wilt in anything over 80 degrees.
The combination of heat and high humidity has an adverse effect on those of us who have achieved geezer status. We can become a bit short of breath and arthritic joints complain loudly.
So I shall be spending the weekend as quietly a possible. I'll be back Monday when a cool front is due to chase away the hot and damp and usher in some fall weather.
Fall - my most favorite time of year. :)

Heat is a killer for us old folks; you're wise to play it safe.
ReplyDeleteGorges...I just don't bounce back easily anymore.
DeleteWe Southerners don't fare any better. But, we know to rely heavily on ac. it is even more important for me as I get older since I don't recover from our heat and high humidity as I did even just a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteLinda...It is odd, but even with the ac going, the heat and humidity still can kick my bum. I have learned to take it easy when the temps are high, like today. At 4:00 this afternoon it was up to 94 degrees. Quiet time works best for me on days like today. :)
DeleteAre you sure the ac is working properly and taking out the humidity? We have an expression in the South--walk slow and stay in the shade. It works. I guess it works in the house too.
DeleteLinda...My ac is working just fine. Whether I am inside or outside doesn't matter. Changes in weather conditions affect my arthritis. I can predict rain better than the local weathermen. I do the walk slow thing in the house so I don't stiffen up completely, and the pain will somewhat subside when the temps drop next week. I don't know why this is - it just is. :)
DeleteIt'll be freezing and the wind cutting through us in a few months. Enjoy the happy memories of Summer while you can!
ReplyDeleteK...Yep. Come January I will be whining about the cold. That's what we Minnesotans are good at - fussing at the weatherman no matter what the season. :)
DeleteEnjoy your quiet day.
ReplyDeleteI'm taking it easy as well. Just in from a walk around the block with the dog. That's it for today!! I had a big day yesterday so I'm ready for an easy day at home. Don't even have to cook - pulled out the crockpot yesterday and made my first stew of the season. Yum - leftovers tonight!
Take good care,
SJ
SJ...Sometimes a walk with the dog is enough for one day. My big achievement today was a load of laundry and washing a few dishes. We have one more hot day and then a cool-down when things can get back to normal, whatever normal is. :)
DeleteStew sounds yummy. I have been eating off a crockpot full of pork and cabbage soup. Duane surprised me last evening with a sandwich from Subway. Tonite is a matter of opening a jar of ham and beans and nuking it! Not much cooking going on here, either.
We all had our A/C's going. Jordon, the oldest, was in heaven..Florida H,H.. But remember what's just around the river bend....
ReplyDeleteRob...This weather has to be a walk in the park compared to the heat and humidity of Florida. And yes, I know what is coming and I will complain about the ice and snow, too. That's what we do best - complain about the Minnesota weather. :)
DeleteIt hasn't been too bad down here. We check the weather in Cincinnati every day though, as the kids are there, and it's been sweltering there too.
ReplyDeleteHarry...Cooler temps should arrive here tomorrow. Hope for your kids sake they quickly move on to Ohio. It has been such an odd summer - hot, cool, hot again - that it makes me wonder what kind of winter is coming. :)
