Saturday Bits and Bobs

Fridays are good days, especially if you have hermit tendencies.  Friday means that once the home health care nurse leaves I have three whole days plus the rest of Friday to myself.  When you have lived alone for ten years, it takes some doing to get used to having people in and out of your home.  I have come to terms with that but still enjoy my alone time.  Now that alone time can be interrupted by kids and grands and you will hear nary a complaint from me.

It helps that the two nurses who come to work on my legs are both cheerful souls.  I kid them about drawing straws to see who loses the draw and has to come here and deal with this grumpy old lady.  They just laugh at me. Both are very good at their jobs.

I get a kick out of the cleaning lady.  She is a chatterbox, but doesn't seem to care if anyone is listening.  Just a nod of my head or an "Um Hum" from me is enough.  She does an excellent job.  And Wednesday she left me a lovely Easter card - so thoughtful.

Mother Nature seems to be taking a page from Hillary Clinton's playbook, refusing to just go away.  Overnight we got maybe two inches of snow and there is the threat of more come Monday.  Guess it will be a while before the scent of lilacs is in the air.  Sigh.

I am hanging up my crochet hook for a couple of days to give my cramping fingers a bit of a rest.  And then it will be 'forward, march' with Boston's afghan.  The green and purple yarns make it fun to work on.

When you have several children who have spouses and inlaws, you don't always spend holidays with them.   We have to learn to share.  So this year it will be just Duane and me for Easter dinner.  He is roasting a ham and I am in charge of the potatoes and vegetables.  If I am feeling really ambitious, there might just be a cherry pie with ice cream involved.

This is me...wishing all of you a very blessed Easter.

  2. Your writing brought smiles to my face. I can just hear your housecleaner humming along.
Cherry pie and ice cream sounds yummy!
Spring is trying to make an entrance here. However, there was still a heavy frost last night.
Happy Easter to you as well.

    1. Thanks, SJ...The pie is in the oven, filling my kitchen with wonderful smells.

The cleaner is so funny. My apartment is set up with the living room on one end, the kitchen in the middle and the bedroom and bath at the other end. I stay in the living room while she cleans the rest. Now and then she will poke her head in, chattering about Lord only knows what and then sort of drifts off. Later I can still her talking - way back in the bedroom. Makes me smile.

We have a temp this morning of 12 degrees with snow promised for tomorrow. The Easter Bunny is gonna freeze his little tail off! Wishing you a lovely Easter and glad it is warmer there than here. :)

  4. The woman who helped me clean could not do anything if she talked. I had to remind her all the time to keep working. It drove me crazy. There should be Easter eggs involved in your day tomorrow. Cherry pie and ice cream should make him happy.

    1. Linda...This lady is able to talk and clean at the same time. Except when she has her earbuds in and is listening to music, and then she sings and cleans!

There are no Easter Eggs involved, but Son chose the kind of pie, which happens to be my favorite. Win - win!

      Happy Easter, Linda!

    2. She sounds like a treasure. Cherry pie is my least favorite, but was my brother's choice instead of a birthday cake.Happy Easter.

  5. I agree on the holidays. If Hubby had his way, we'd be attending a ba-zillion gatherings in one day. I would rather take it slow and have one or one with just him and the kids some years. Have a wonderful Easter and I home your cramped hands heal up.

    1. Kristina...I enjoy getting together with kids and grands, but when they have other commitments, it is nice to just have a good meal with my bachelor son. And he cooks, which is a plus!

I sort of overdid it, trying to finish up those two afghans. But washing dishes a few times in hot water has pretty much got my hands back to normal, so much so that I will likely work on the next afghan this evening. :)

Wishing you and yours a blessed Easter.
