Beans, Beans, the Musical Fruit...

Yesterday I cooked up a double batch of baked beans.  The link to the recipe is in the previous post.  Because I got a late start, I didn't get them jarred up and canned until today.

I used half pint jars.  That works out well as a serving for one or two people.  I put a couple of pieces of cooked bacon on top of the beans in each jar.   The last canner load is processing as I write.  A double batch gave me 60 half pint jars of baked beans.

In about an hour this canner load will be done.  And then I do believe a nap is called for.  :)

Keep on prepping.

  1. Don't eat all those beans in one sitting, Vicki, or they'll be calling you Old Mother Hover...

  2. Vicki, if you are as tired as I am then I agree with you on your need for a nap. I would love to take a good long snooze. I got up an hour early this morning so I could go out to the garden before the temperature got to be more than I could handle. Picked veggies, came back to the house to take a shower, and took off for my 60 mile round trip to tackle two grocery stores and the Goodwill. I always stop at the Goodwill to see what prepping items I can find. I am back home and the thermometer is reading 90 degrees. It's time to make some BLT's (bacon and luscious tomato) sandwiches and some deviled eggs for super. The guys will be arriving soon...

So happy to hear your canning of beans is about to wrap up. You are one smart Grandma! "Keep on prepping" is our mantra! The "squirrels and nutz" in D.C. are getting more and more vicious! CW

    1. Good Grief, CW...I get tired just reading about all you did today! It must be in our genes - that need to stock up before winter. :)

Your BLT's sound wonderful as do the deviled eggs. I need to bake some bread first, as I stopped using store bread. Any loaf of bread that doesn't turn moldy when it has been on the counter for over a week, scares me. I cheat and use my bread machine to stir the bread up and knead it, but it just doesn't taste right if it isn't baked in the oven. :)

It is 9 PM and still 84 degrees outside. I was going to postpone the canning until the weekend when the temps are supposed to be cooler, but as you say, the 'squirrels and nutz' in DC are most definitely getting more insane by the day. About the time I think the politicians can't possibly become any more stupid, they prove me wrong. The meanness and nastiness is astounding. So yeah - keep on prepping - are the words of the day!!

  3. A friend of mine grew up in a family with four siblings and was always quoting that "poem." - lol - It brought back some memories!

    1. Glad I could make you smile, Gorges...In my family I think it was my Dad, who had a well used sense of humor, that was the one who quoted that 'poem' much to my mother's chagrin. :

  4. Beans used to be a main staple of many meals. My favorite sayings are, talking back, speaking your mind, rocket launch, Oh your from DC, and Crop dusting.

    1. Rob...Guess I am never too old to learn. Don't think I had heard any of those terms for the effect of beans. :)
