Breakfast Treats

Once in a great while it is necessary to my happiness and well being that my breakfast consist of two chocolate brownies and a cold glass of milk.  Today was such a day.

Note to my Grandchildren:  Once. In. A. Great. While. it is alright to have a treat for breakfast as long as it is not a school day.  If your Mom and Dad object, tell them Grandma said.

And if your Daddy still objects,  remind him, very politely of course, of the chocolate malts his Grandpa (my Dad) fed him for breakfast when he was young, much to the chagrin of his Grandma.

My work here is done.

  1. I'd say that covers all four food groups, but how did you stop at two? Moderation is not my middle name.

  2. Are you familiar with the Hobbits? I'm part Hobbit. Second breakfast is necessary, which requires more brownies and milk. No problem.

I don't do real well with moderation, either. Which is why I can't keep candy in the house. This is where my lousy memory is a help. I buy it, hide it and promptly forget where.

  3. I remember those Carnation instant breakfast malts. They were good. It had to be the chocolate malt flavored one. Duane

  4. Duane...Your Grandma would get so put out with him. "You can't feed those kids ice cream for breakfast," she'd say. And he would tell her, with a completely straight face but with a twinkle in his eye and a wink at you kids, that he was using Carnation Instant Breakfast for flavor and ice cream was dairy and so was the milk. And sometimes he would hand each of you a banana to show that he was feeding you fruit, too. He just loved making you malts for breakfast!

  5. Hum. I either don't eat breakfast, or I make a big one. I hate cereal, won't eat that, but I like eggs, fried taters, and bacon.

  6. As a Grandparent I have done my duty and my grandson is now hooked on ice cream, but not for breakfast.
Yet. I do plan on teaching him the finer art of cold pizza, among other foods to be eaten cold for breakfast. My mom would have a cup cake and milk sometimes. Yep my grandsons has alot in his DNA mix.

  7. Harry...I'm not big on cereal either unless it is made into rice krispie bars. Often I will skip breakfast in the morning, have a sandwich for lunch and then fix a plate of bacon or sausage, eggs and hash browns for supper. I rarely eat out, but when I do, I'd rather go out for breakfast than for dinner.

  8. Rob...That's half the fun of being a grandparent. We get to teach our grandkids stuff that our parents wouldn't let us do and feed them stuff that won't hurt them but is fun, like cold pizza or chocolate malts for breakfast, and of course, ice cream.
