MIA For a Bit

Youngest Son called me this morning.  He wanted to know if I would be home tomorrow afternoon.  I said I would.  He said that he and his oldest daughter would be here to take me to Sams Club.  I warned him that my list was fairly long with some heavy stuff included.  He said he didn't care.  He would drive his truck to haul however much I wanted to buy and they would get it all up the stairs for me.

So if all goes well I will be up to my neck in canning hamburger, meatballs, sausage and butter and dehydrating hash browns and onions.  And busy repackaging some of the dry food to fit on my closet pantry shelves and transferring others to buckets.

I've been a bit concerned that I wouldn't be able to get restocked before winter sets in.  This will take care of a major share of that.  I feel so very blessed to have kids and grandkids who are willing to spend a Saturday afternoon to give me the peace of mind that comes with having a well stocked pantry.

  1. You are so lucky to have family to help. We too are grocery shopping tomorrow. We try to but as much as we can for a month or more. That reminds me I need to work on my list. Talk to you soon..Rob

P.S. Don't forget milk and cookies for everyone after all that hard work ;)

  3. Rob...I am very, very lucky to have help from family. It is getting more difficult each day to do everything alone. This shopping trip will take care of the majority of what I needed to replace, making it easy to finish up the bits and pieces from Cub. I'm making a batch of peanut butter cookies this evening - David's favorite.

  4. Dani...I'm not going very far! I just know there will be very little computer time the next few days. I am one of those rare women who dislikes shopping, but when I can shop for the needed pantry supplies, I am one happy lady. :)

  5. There is nothing better than family that are willing to step up and help out where needed. You are very blessed to have those that love you so close and willing to do so.
Have fun with the canning part. A lot of work, but so well worth it once it's done.

  6. Jim...I feel even more blessed when the help is on a volunteer basis. I really don't like having to ask for help. There is the added bonus of my granddaughter learning first hand about taking time to help family.

You are right. The canning part is a lot of work, but the satisfaction of having my shelves full again and knowing that no matter what happens, my family will have food, is well worth the trouble.

  8. Mary...I expect that by this time tomorrow, I will be knee deep in canning jars! I wish you lived closer, too. Not so much for the help as for the conversation.
