Toddlers and Grown-ups

After coming out of my flu induced stupor, I decided to take a look at the news headlines to see what I had missed.  I found that our government had again shut down.  Which begs the question, 'I wonder what life could be like if Congress were populated with grown-ups instead of toddlers?'

I have seen children who were much better behaved than those who make our laws.  The back biting, name calling, blame assigning, complete with posters and charts, is astounding.  I can't help but equate their behavior with a three year old who is on the floor, kicking and screaming because they can't have their own way.

I think we should limit Congress to sessions lasting only three months out of the year.  This would give them ample time to deal with the problems our country is facing without giving them the time to waste on posturing, rhetoric and outright lies.  They would be forced to work together rather than spending so much time arguing and tantrum throwing for their pet causes.

It is way past time for politicians to remember who voted for them and why.

  1. I think term limits would help, too.

    1. I agree, Gorges...Seems like many of those who are in office for years and years forget who they work for. They love power and term limits would slow that down.

  2. Not to mention while the government is shut down, our military goes unpaid.

    1. Kristina...It is absolutely criminal to withhold pay from our military. We really have reached a new low, haven't we. I am fed up with the lot of them. I expect adult behavior from Congress - not that of children squabbling in the sandbox.

  3. So glad that you're feeling better and back to your feisty self.
One of the things I like about Canada is their election process - they call an election and in 90 days it's done. They don't campaign for years!!

    1. Thanks, SJ...Still a bit wobbly but all in all much better. Must be to get all fired up about the stupidity of our elected officials. Our legislators forget who is paying their salaries. The whole of our government has turned into one big dog and pony show. It just gets wearisome after a while. Your observation about campaigning is spot on. They get elected and then immediately begin to campaign for the next election. A pox on them all!!!

  4. Glad the flu didn't kill you off. If the Atlanta television stations are to be believed, Georgia is having a lot of people die this year. Of course, all of the Atlanta affiliates are sensation seekers too.

I don't have the slightest faith in the U.S. government, at all. I have faith in the military, and faith in President Trump. The rest of them, no.

    1. Harry...The flu itself isn't as bad as I have been reading about. It just keeps coming back again and again. I haven't heard of more than a couple of deaths due to the flu here, so maybe ours is a different strain of it than is floating around your neck of the woods.

I'm with you on who to have faith in and who not to. I have been noticing lately that Congress doesn't even try to sugar coat their lies any more. I guess they figure we are too dumb to notice. I like the fact that Trump just lays it all out there and doesn't back down. Has to be driving those career politicians bat guano crazy. :)

  5. If they can't get it done in a two year term, I don't think 3 months would at all. Even our State idiots have trouble with 3 months. I do think they need term limits Senate 12 years because theirs is 6. House should be 6 there term is 2

    1. Rob...That three month suggestion was my sarcastic side showing. I sort of figured that with less time to squabble they might actually get some work done. I agree on the term limits. So many have been there so long that they have forgotten just who it is they are supposed to be working for.

  6. 1933 – The 20th Amendment to the United States Constitution is ratified, changing the beginning and end of terms for all elected federal offices. Now we need one that limits any person to no more than two terms of federal elected office, total! http://mostlycajun.com/wordpress/

    1. Barbar Cat...I am 100% in agreement. Seems like when they are in office too long, they think they know better than those who elected them. And they forget the reasons they were elected. It becomes all about power and that needs to stop.

  7. Hope you're still feeling well and the crud hasn't come back.
I'm back to my normal routine. Cheers, SJ

    1. SJ...The crud hasn't returned, but it hasn't completely gone away either. I find myself in need of more naps and still trying to ramp up some energy. But I am sure this, too, shall pass. So glad you are finally back to normal!! Gives me hope. :)
