I am beginning to believe...

there is something nasty in the air or in the water.  This is the third or fourth time this year that I have come down with flu-like symptoms.  Never had that happen before.

Back to bed for me.  I will return when this round of icky has run its course.

  2. Actually, it COULD be something in the water. Maybe you should get a Sawyer water filter for the water you consume without boiling (cooking).

    1. Gorges...I keep cases of bottled water in my food storage and that's what I use for drinking. But I do need a water filter. It is on my 'need to buy' list.

    1. I'm better. Got lots of sleep and lots of fluids - mostly bottled water and juice. :)
I have little patience for being sick!

  4. Go see your doctor person! Coughing, chest congestion, and fatigue can be signs of congestive heart failure and other things, not just the flu. Especially if this is a recurring theme with you. And yes, there has been lots of pneumonia around this year, but still don't mess around, call and go see someone!! I worry about you!!
    Nurse rant off...get feeling better...

    1. Suz...The nurse rant is appreciated. I have an appointment coming up soon for prescription renewal so will discuss this with the Dr. then. Am feeling better today. Thanks for your concern.

  5. I had a strange ailment that turned out to be nothing much after all. But, for five days, I was not a well camper. Then, it was over.

    1. Linda...Glad whatever it was that made you ill has gone away. Whatever this is seems to be on the way out. I have no patience with being sick. :)

  6. Sorry to hear you're under the weather.

I thought of you today. I loaded 5 trays of strawberries in my dehydrator. I picked them yesterday from my garden. You inspired me to try this. I've always either made jam with them or frozen them. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hope you feel better soon. SJ

    1. SJ...I'm getting better. Just a minor setback.
How did the strawberries turn out? I have lots of veggies dried but little fruit. The plan is to add more dehydrated fruit to my food storage. I have done strawberries, pineapple and mixed fruit with good result. I need to dry more.

  7. Like Flint,eh? My kids live in a big city in Ohio. They NEVER drink the tap water. They buy Deer Park at the store. But they still have to wash dishes and bath in the nasty stuff coming out of the tap.

    1. Harry...I keep cases of bottled water on hand for drinking but to be honest, much of my water is run over coffee grounds first. I really don't know if there is anything wrong with the water here, but I'm looking to buy a good water filter just in case. I'm not so sure that any city water is good. The best water I ever had came from a hand pump on my Grandmothers farm.

  8. Glad you're feeling better and on the mend.

The strawberries turned out great but took longer then I thought they would. Probably me not slicing them thinly enough.
I use a Brita filter that attached to me kitchen tap. I can flip a switch and get filtered water or when the switch is the other way the water comes out unfiltered. It wasn't cheap but it is easier then using a pitcher with a filter. I'd love a Berkey water filter to have on my countertop but that's out of my budget. So I went with what I could afford.
In any case, glad you're back. SJ

  9. Thanks, SJ. I don't have the patience to stay down for very long. :)

Glad the berries turned out well. I would rather have them take longer to dry. I found that if the berries are sliced too thin, they dry paper thin and are a bugger to get off the trays. Same with tomatoes.

A Berkey isn't within my budget, either. I may have to go with the Brita pitcher. I have a connecting piece screwed into my kitchen faucet to connect the water hose on my washer, and it is just too much a hassle to take it off and then put it back on to wash clothes. I do want a filter of some kind and will likely get one as soon as possible.
