Finished...

Spent the better part of the weekend finishing up the borders on the two afghans and called it good last evening.

Here is Zach's graduation afghan.

And here is mine, made from the yarn Jill and her family gave me for Christmas.

Sorry about the poor picture quality.  The battery in my camera died before I could get some better shots.

I have started the next one for Boston.  I have over a year to complete this one before she graduates.  After that there are two more to make and all six grands will have afghans from Grandma.

And now I had better get busy getting caught up on those things that were put on hold while I was playing with yarn.  Like the mountain of laundry waiting for me.  Sigh.

    1. Thank you, Rev. Paul...Working on them keeps me busy and out of the bars.
      (Family joke. I don't drink. :)

  4. Absolutely **love** both of them. And the picture quality is just fine, imo. Well done.

Laundry and the floors are never done in my world either.

Just back with the dog from the groomers. Tried a new place because my gal is still not taking big dogs after having had her baby. This new place did an ok job but not like the regular gal. But now he's clean and his nails are done. Both jobs I find difficult to do now.

    1. Thanks, SJ...I like them, too. Things were neglected here as I really wanted to finish these two and get started on the next one.

I understand the difficulty in bathing a dog the size of a Golden. My last job was dog bather at a grooming shop. Even where I had the setup to handle large dogs, it still was no easy task.

    2. Good morning. I know you know about dog grooming. And, yes, my setup is just a regular bathtub. The last time I bathed him, I got him in ok but getting out was dicey and thankfully he was ok. Decided then and there that paying for the service was a better idea.
Itching to get into my gardens to prep but it's raining like crazy. The forecast is for a break on Wednesday. On Saturday two of my community gardens are receiving compost deliveries. I need to get my plots cleaned up before then. Both gardens are organized so volunteers wheel the compost to my plot and dump it.It's a wonderful system. Looking forward to a new season.

    3. SJ...The set up for bathing dogs was also a bathtub, but it was raised off the floor enough so I could give the dogs a bath without having to kneel to do it. Lifting the big dogs in and out of the tub was a chore, but I was stronger then than now. I really liked that job. It was just the owner of the shop and me. She tried to get me to cut hair, but I knew better. The last time I tried to cut my kid's hair they looked like a weed whacker got to them. :)

Hope the weather cooperates so you can get into your garden. I am looking forward to hearing all about it.

    1. Thanks, Jenn...Teal is a favorite color for me, so I really like that afghan, too. I have two more to make for the last two grands (after the green and purple one for Boston) and it will be fun to see what colors Jill picks out when I am ready to make them. :)

  6. Vicki,
I don't think in all my life I have ever finished the floors and laundry. It just keeps coming at you. But, you can finish afghans! They are bothvery nice. Lovely gifts from grandma.

  7. Linda...I don't have to worry about the floors any more, but the laundry is one of the few things I am still in charge of. And I sort of let it pile up and crocheted instead. I am glad to have both afghans finished. My teal one has found a home on the back of my rocking chair and Zach's is put away, waiting for his graduation. I think he will like it.

  8. Every time I do laundry I am missing a sock.

    1. BW...That's because washing machines are programmed to eat socks. But never a pair of socks. Always just one sock at a time. :)

  9. Your comment sparked a memory - my dog before the goldens was a mini poodle. I tried to clip her a few times and the feedback was that she looked like moths had attacked her coat. I realized that wasn't a skill set that I would ever have.
Spent the morning outside at two of my community gardens and my little piece of dirt here at the apartment. The weather forecast for today was 'not raining' and it held true. So much fun to play in the dirt for a little bit. Both community gardens were in great shape and only needed a little puttering around. My spot here at the apartment still has weeds galore. But I did manage to take out two small buckets worth. Slow and steady will get it done eventually.

    1. SJ...You made me laugh at your description of a poodle haircut! The only time I could get away with cutting my dog's hair was with the Yorkies. Every summer I just shaved them down and then let their coats grow until the next summer. They looked like Chihuahuas, but it worked out - cool in summer and warm in winter. They acted like puppies right after their cuts, so I guess they liked it. :)

It is still too cold here for anyone to be puttering about in the gardens. Come to think of it, I know of only one older gentleman who plants a vegetable garden every spring. Oh, and the sweet Russian ladies in the apartment high-rise a block or so from me. They plant veggies and flowers in a narrow strip of land along the river. But I have never seen any other vegetable gardens here. I guess people have gotten so used to getting their food at the grocery that they don't bother with gardens. Me...I would much rather be out digging in the dirt than pushing a grocery cart up and down the isles of a store! Hope the rain stays away from you long enough to dig some more. Gardening is great therapy, isn't it.

    1. Thanks, Mary...There are lots of very talented crocheters. Me...I just make Granny Squares and sew them together. That's sort of like being a one-trick pony, isn't it. :)
