She’s Back

Knowing his mother was likely going through withdrawal without a working computer, Youngest Son took pity on me and delivered a new one today.  And, bless his heart, he got it up and running for me as well.  Later on I will take both laptops to the computer doctor to see if they can be salvaged for backups.  Thankfully, I have an external hard drive so I didn’t lose anything important.

The end of last week and the weekend were taken up with canning.  I wound up with 54 pints of chicken vegetable soup, 32 half pints of chicken and 24 half pints of the leftover veggies.  I will be concentrating on other preps as I am nearly out of canning jars and definitely out of shelf space.
The weather here is weird.  We have been having beautiful, cool fall temps.  But today the thermometer reads in the mid 80’s with 75% humidity.  But tomorrow promises to be back down to the 60’s.  I like that much better.

So I believe the rest of the afternoon will be spent installing programs and figuring out a new operating system.  Not my most favorite thing to do, but I won’t complain.  I have a computer that works, and that makes me a very happy, chubby granny.  😊

  1. I like the fall to act like fall. I also like the winter to act like fall! - lol

  4. Glad you got a new computer. And that's great you can install the programs and figure out out yourself. My DH can't/won't even do that :(

    1. Thanks, One Family...This is the first computer of many that someone else - Youngest Son - has set up for me and I am grateful I didn't have to deal with it. It is enough to install programs and find bookmarks and all that fun stuff. It is gonna take a while. :)

  5. And a new font! Looks great. Big cheers to your son.
My day started a bit rough. Fasting for lab tests just makes me cranky. The day improved with a late coffee and then a quick trip through the local Wendy's.
    Cheers, SJ

    1. Not a new font, SJ...Just bigger because the new operating system doesn't automatically resize copy/paste. I write in Word and just paste into Blogger. I gotta work on that and figure it out.

Fasting would make me a bit cranky, too! Wendy's always rights that wrong, as does coffee. Especially coffee. :)

    2. So will you share what you ended up with for the new computer? And how do you like having to use a desktop? Do you have to sit at your table or is it wireless?
Today is the senior's day at the thrift. So after almost two months of not shopping there, I'm treating myself to a shopping trip today. Cheers, SJ

    3. SJ...The new computer is an HP Pavilion desktop with a tower so it lives on my desk, which is fine because I very rarely moved the laptop from the desk. We went with the tower because as my son pointed out, I get more bang for my buck. It has a big, honking 27 inch flat screen monitor which is proving to be really nice for aging eyes. The keyboard is smaller than the keyboards on the older computers, but it is manageable - or will be when I get used to it. It did not come with speakers but David is bringing me some maybe today.

It runs Windows 10 and I haven't used it enough to decide if I like that or not. I didn't get all the bells and whistles like for gaming or other things I don't do, but it is plenty powerful for my needs. Today I will be installing all the programs I normally use plus all the data I have saved on my external hard drive. All things considered, David and Maddie did a good job choosing my new computer, which was affordable and does all I need it to do.

Enjoy your shopping spree at the thrift shop. They are such fun. You never know what treasures you might find. :)

  7. Nice to be able to talk to you once again. Funny how us more "experienced folks" have gone from rotary dial phones, black n white tv's, 45 rpm records to cell phones, computers the size of a cell phone, HD this and that. Oh and best of all our politicians still can't tell the truth. So far only the President is tell the truth, because he is not a politician.

    1. It is nice to be back up and running. You are right. Lots of changes over the years - some good - some not so much. I would guess we have always had politicians who weren't familiar with the concept of truth. It is just more out in the open these days.

    1. Hi Jenn...I'm glad to be back, too! We have had fall weather except for yesterday, when the temp got up to 85 degrees. Back to nice, cool weather now and I'm thinking either soup or chili. :)
