Stack It High

Everywhere I look I see warnings about shortages. I'm not sure how much of that is true, but considering world wide conditions as well as our own problems here in the States, I am not willing to take a chance. I am stacking it as high as possible.

Canning supplies are still scarce across the country and nonexistent in my area of Minnesota. I still have enough supplies left for emergency canning.  If we should lose power for a lengthy period of time, I have enough to can most of the meat in the freezer. But for now, I am concentrating on dehydrating foods.

My last grocery delivery was this past Thursday. So far, 3 large heads of cabbage, 4 bunches of celery, and 8 lbs. of carrots have been dried. This morning I filled the dehydrator trays with 8 lbs. of onions.

I don't know what the future holds. But I do know it isn't looking too promising. Those in charge seem to be determined to turn our beloved nation into their version of a socialist utopia. They want us dependent on them for everything in our lives.

I can't do much about that, but I can delay begging the government for food to feed my family by continuing to put back as much as possible. At the very least, I have bought us some time to decide what to do next.

Yep. Stacking it high.

    1. SJ...We apartment dwellers are challenged to find storage space, but we keep stacking it anyway. :)

  3. I'm keeping the shelves stacked here in the Wild, Wild West, Vicki. I cannot see a SINGLE upside to what's going on in DC. One way or another, somethinsgonnagive...

    1. Good plan, Pete...Every time I think it can not get any worse, it does. I have to wonder just what it will take for the people to say 'Enough.'

  4. Vicki~ I hope this day finds you and yours well.
For anyone with a pet that needs special food, get what is available. I just ordered additional dry and wet food. It seems I'm not the only one that is doing this per the Vet.

The garden is doing well. Planting more carrots etc this week. Potatoes in a few weeks. Berry vines this weekend. Still drying veggies. Bought my Husband some much needed practical new clothes. People tend to forget socks, underwear etc until too late. If able, I'd get practical shoes/boots that fit properly for later. Same with mud/garden boots. One of my Great-Aunts would say "Whatever they do to others, may it come back on them 10 times over." Red

    1. Red...Everyone here is well. I pray all is well in your neck of the woods.

We sometimes forget that pets need to eat, too. Great suggestion, especially for pets that need special diets. Might not be a bad idea either to learn what pets can eat that can be made from our storage.

There is so much more than just food to consider. Extra clothing or for those who sew, fabric and patterns.

Sounds like your garden is coming right along and that is good. The way things seem to be progressing, gardens may become more important than ever.

And your Great Aunt was spot on!! Take good care.

    2. The dog... People always forget about the dog... Dog food was being rationed out here during the Plandemic. One can only assume there will be more of the same when the ringmaster directs your attention to the center ring... Panic now. Beat the rush!

    3. I bought extra TP with this last grocery order. I hang my head in shame! But I beat the rush. :)

I have noticed that the dire warnings about the horrible variations of the virus don't seem to be causing the hoped for fear and panic. So now there are reports of a group of people being monitored for possible Ebola. If that doesn't cause some to hide under their beds, I wonder what they are going to trot out next. Sigh.

  5. The people saying enough? Since I am totally deaf I don't hear any enoughs. What I see isn't very revolutionary I am a bit of a prepper with a garden and larder plus simple ways have a small chunk of land in the country too! I am curious about these things since up until 100 years ago just about everyone lived the deep pantry way ...enjoy your blog Vicki thanks Patrick

    1. Patrick...I haven't heard any 'enoughs' either. I find it astounding that so many have lost the ability or the will to think for themselves.

Many of those of my vintage grew up at a time when preparing was a common way of life. Everyone I knew had a garden, even if it was part of the back yard in town that was dug up and planted. And most preserved their harvest. Then, they knew how to do stuff.

Good for you in growing food and developing a deep pantry. You are miles ahead of those who can't be bothered to try to take care of themselves. I am a country girl at heart, but circumstances put me in a city apartment. But even those who live like I do can prepare. It is all about priorities. And I have to say that I love my simple life. Thanks for commenting.

  6. Still stackin’ and packin’ down here, too. I’m worried not only about shortages but trying to force vaccinations as a condition of being allowed to shop. At that point, banding together with our neighbors will become essential. Our grocery delivery services around here aren’t so good. Most of them won’t deliver fresh meat or anything frozen. It’s good you have family around, Vicki. Wish we did....

    1. LTM...I have been hearing about the possibility of 'vaccine passports' to prohibit all sorts of activity unless we comply. Seems to me that we are looking more like Germany of the 1930's every day - "Papers please."

I am fortunate in that my delivery service is excellent. The only thing I can't get is ice cream and that is only because it melts between the time the shopping is done and the delivery guy arrives. Some of the bigger grocery stores are now offering delivery services and that is working well for those who use them. No matter the method we use, now is not the time to slow down. Take care.

  7. Some people have very short memories AND they seem to be the same ones that think prepping is unnecessary. I just want to be able to take care of my family without asking for help. Keep packin'and stackin' while it is still possible. Prayers for you and the little blog family...CW

    1. CW...It is sad to think of how many believe that government will take care of them. Government's only interests are lining their own pockets and gaining control of all aspects of our lives. Nope! Would rather take care of me and mine without government interference. Those who can see beyond the lies we are being told continue to stack and pack. We know that we are on our own. And we continue to pray for those close to us. That includes all who visit here. I am so blessed to have found so many like minded folks. God bless each and every one.
