Every day

I check the news headlines to see what sort of new horror those in government want to subject me to. Some want to deprive me of my ability to defend myself in my own home should it become necessary to do so. Others want to tell me what I can and can not say. Still others have spent over a year telling me what to wear, where I can go and how many family members I can visit at one time.

These people are supposed to represent me. They don't. They represent whatever special interest group will add the most money to their bank accounts. They represent anyone who can give them the most power and control over my life. They expect me to go along with their socialist agenda.

And if we dare speak out against their tyranny, they call us racist.

Really? Racist? That's the best they can do? I have been called much worse by much better. And have lived to tell the tale.

I am done with all the nonsense. If I have learned nothing else over the past few weeks, it is that life is way too short to allow someone to suck the joy out of living.

In my opinion, we need fewer rules and regulations and fear mongering.

We do need more hugs. And more time spent over coffee at the kitchen table with friends. And more conversations on the porch of an evening. And more family birthday parties. And more gatherings with friends at the local pub or restaurant. And more family outings at the ball park or the county fair.

We need to stop listening to the idiots who think they know how to live our lives better than we do.

I will still check the headlines for it is a good thing to keep track of what the enemy is trying to do to us next. But I flatly refuse to live in fear. I refuse to live under the intimidation they are so fond of dishing out.

In a couple of weeks I will have lived 75 years. I have more time in my past than in my future. So I plan to live the time I have left the way I choose to live it. I will take time to enjoy what makes me happy. Conversations with my grown children. Hugs from my Grands. Cuddling my Great-Grand. Making quilts. Crocheting afghans for my Grands. Reading good murder mystery books. Watching a beautiful sunrise. Drinking the first cup of fresh brewed coffee of the day.

I know that our country is on the verge of collapse should we continue down the path of the current administration. And I will continue to prepare for whatever comes our way.

The power hungry elite will do what they want no matter what I say. So I intend to live out my life on my own terms.

And they can just go pound sand.

  1. Oh Vicki! You're singing my song! I'm just a year or so younger then you, and couldn't agree with you more! Wish we were neighbors. I would love to sit on the porch with you. We do here and love talking to the neighbors. This last year has definitely made us all more aware of the value of the everyday with family and friends. In fact, we're moving closer to two of our boys and their new little ones as soon as possible. A year of separation was not good. It's like a lost year. I used to follow the news a lot. Not so much anymore. I'm tired of being lied to and manipulated. We'll live our lives as best we can, happy to spend time with those we love. And continue to prepare as best we can for whatever comes our way

    1. Unk...Well said! Those who want to dictate how we live are completely clueless. And more importantly, they simply do not care what we the people want. I am so done with it all. I will still keep an eye on them so I know what is coming, but my answer to whatever evil they come up with is "Nope. Not gonna do it."

I completely get moving to be close to kids and grands. That is exactly what brought me back to my home state some 24 years ago and I have never, not even once, regretted that decision.

I would love to sit on a porch and have good conversation. We need more of that and less of the efforts to divide us. God bless.

    1. Gorges...I had a few other choice words in mind, but my grands read here from time to time. Gotta keep it family friendly. :)

    2. ...She didn't say where they should pound that sand, Gorges... She just laid it between the lines. You know; inyerendo...

  3. Thank you, Ed. I do believe I am at the very end of my patience with our 'leaders.'

  4. Vicki, the more I am told to "tow the line and follow orders" by the people in so-called high places, the more delighted I become when my stubborn side makes an appearance. I generally make an attempt to do the exact opposite of what they want me to do. It makes my day, when I can ruffle their feathers. Great post!

    1. CW...I don't 'tow the line' very well, either. I wouldn't mind so much if anything our 'betters' did made any sense at all. But it is all about money and power and I am so done with them all.

  5. I wholeheartedly agree. I am so tired of fear mongering. I wish more people would think for themselves.

    1. Mandy...I believe thinking for themselves went the way of the Dodo bird about the same time people needed safe spaces and participation trophies. And those of us who still are able to think for ourselves are now called conspiracy theorists. Sigh.

  6. If only there were an easy way to get the government idiots out of our lives.
    God bless, Vicki.

    1. LindaG...The way to do that is with fair and honest elections, and I don't see that happening any time soon. God bless you and yours.

    1. And wouldn't that be fun, LTM...The stories we could tell. The problems we could solve. There is not much that will beat a porch sit with friends.

  9. This is the precarious knife-edge we, as preppers, occupy, Vicki. The whole idea is to prepare, and then live your life. The media wants us sucked down one rabbit hole or the other. It's up to us, with God's help, to mind what's going on right in front of us. Like that lady you told us about said; "Stop listening to the fools..." I get my "news," and then shut the box off. I might check in again if someone on the ham radio says "Did you hear about...?" Otherwise, I go about my day. I tweak my preps, and then go on living...

    1. Pete...Sound advice, my friend. It is way too easy to find ourselves headed down one rabbit hole or another. Preparedness itself can be a rabbit hole, and for a time it was my rabbit hole. The events of the past few weeks have been my wake-up call. I still do the necessary things to make sure I am ready for whatever evil comes our way. I still check the headlines. But I find I am taking more time to do the things that make me happy and bring me peace.

And yes - sand may be pounded wherever we feel compelled to pound it! :)
