I don't know where to turn any more. If I agree with the propaganda of the left, I am just as bad as they are, but I will not be harassed or 'cancelled.' And if I continue to believe in God and the Constitution, I am labeled every nasty name in existence.
I have to wonder what happened. How did we as a nation get to this point? Are we so incredibly stupid that we no longer see bs for what it is? Seems like it.
I remember a time when my kids could go outside to play without needing adult supervision. I remember having friends of all shapes, sizes and colors and nobody thought anything about it. I remember a time when people could have conversations about political differences without the hate and discontent we see now.
A generation or maybe two back in time, people were vastly more prepared to fend for themselves and handle hardship than current generations. Not only did they have the skills to do things like build stuff and care for livestock or raise their own food, they did these things as a matter of course.
During the Great Depression, money was tight for a farmer in northern Minnesota like my Grandfather. But he would not even consider asking for help. One of his daughters went to teaching school. A couple of his sons went to work in logging camps. My Dad and a brother hopped a freight train headed west. They worked on grain thrashing crews. They found jobs going behind the machines that dug potatoes and they picked potatoes off the ground and filled sacks. They sent every penny they could home to help the family. The rest of the kids stayed home and milked cows, fed hogs and cared for the chickens and the huge garden. They all worked to take care of the family.
Now folks just get in line to sign up for food stamps and welfare benefits. And have meltdowns if they can't get exactly what they want.
Most times I think we should be looking backward for inspiration instead of looking to see what we can get for free. The day may come when all we have left is the knowledge gleaned from our ancestors. Grandma and Grandpa survived because they knew stuff. Because they relied on their own selves instead of relying on government individuals who couldn't find their own backsides with both hands and a flashlight.
Nobody is coming to save you. You could at some point have to depend on yourself and on the knowledge you have. Never stop learning. It could save your life.
This is the kind of thinking and learning I am trying to instill in my grandchildren (as are my daughter and her husband).ReplyDelete
Excellent, chipmunk! I don't think we need to go back to living as they did in the 1800's. I just think that knowing how to do some of the things that help keep people self-reliant is not only a good thing, it may at some point become necessary. Glad to know you and yours are on that path.Delete
Hard to "never stop learning" when they are banning books they don't want you to read.ReplyDelete
Anon... Guess I missed the book banning. There are other alternatives. one is "Wartime Farm" that talks about farming in the 1940's.Delete
i worry that govt will stop soc sec to be rid of us useless eaters.ReplyDelete
i am getting something for nothing based on husband's years of work
i am not able to work
please pray that God puts His men in govt replacing the devil's puppets presently in office
deb...I rather doubt that soc sec will be stopped - at least not before it runs out of money. Social Security is not on the same level as welfare. We paid into it with each and every paycheck. It is an earned benefit. I pray that we will get back to the government intended by the Constitution, but I have my doubts. Seems like we may already be too far gone.Delete
Also remember that SS wasn't optional.... they forced it on us whether we liked it or not. Now let them hold up their end of the deal.Delete
Deb, you and your husband have done nothing wrong.
The whole changing of attitudes from taking pride in being self-sufficient and resourceful, hardworking, etc., to the mostly lazy, immature behaviour has been happening for a long time. When did saying the Lord's Prayer at the beginning of the school day, stop? Look at the advertising that kids are exposed to, more toys, more fun, put the family in debt for a lot of garbage. Look at some of the movies, which are nothing but bigger advertisements for an unachievable lifestyle. Add drugs to the picture and I suppose people are in la-la land without any effort. I see the coming troubles as a major housecleaning, and it is long overdue. My husband and I have prepared as best as we can, but there are things that we can't prepare for and we will have to figure things out. God gave me a brain, and that thought makes me want to share a little laugh with you. I am trying to improve my German by watching a video series, and the humour in that particular region is priceless. The guy asks, "Does you head have a brain, or is it there just to hold your ears apart?"ReplyDelete
You are absolutely correct, Anon. It’s the attitudes that will get us. Someone made a comment awhile ago (I don’t remember who/where) that “Politics are downstream from morality.” Not much morality these days, as a general rule.Delete
I love that joke, btw! I’m remembering it and I’m sure I’ll find just the perfect occasion to use it!
Lucy and Tigers Mom
anon and LTM...I am in agreement with both of you. The world we live in didn't get this way overnight. It has been a long, slow slide. And it is showing no sign of getting better any time soon. Seems to me that there are lots of folks now who use their brains just to keep their ears apart!Delete
I grew up hearing that phrase as, "Use your head for something other than keeping your ears from flapping together." Guess every culture has a version:LOLDelete
Vicki, whenever confronted with a choice between anything and God, it's a no-brainer. God SAID we'd be persecuted for our beliefs, so the mudslinging of today's propagandists should come as no surprise. In fact, it tells us we're doing something RIGHT!ReplyDelete
I DO look backward for inspiration! It's said that those who don't know their history are condemned to repeat it. In our case KNOWING our history will help us survive what the UNKNOWING are bringing down on ALL of us!
Pete...Sometimes I get caught up in what is going on around us and I forget what God has told us. You are right. All of this should come as no surprise. Thank you for the reminder.Delete
As a kid I disliked having to work so much. But now I am grateful that the work my parents made me do taught me much that is already useful and will become more so as time goes on.
Just the other day, one of the home health care nurses asked what I was doing. I told her I was writing this blog post and about how important it is to remember the past and learn the old time skills. What I got was a blank stare and then the news that she and her boyfriend are flying to Florida for the weekend. I am amazed at how little some of the younger ones are aware and worse, how little they seem to care. God help them. I can't.
I've wondered the same thing, Vicki. For a couple years now. I guess the left has been creating this entitlement attitude for a while though.ReplyDelete
Divide and conquer.
People like your nurse will understand when the government finally cancels everything.
You all be safe and God bless.
LindaG...60 years ago, about the time I graduated from High School, classmates were off to college and if higher education wasn't possible, they found jobs and started families. They worked hard and played hard and knew what they wanted out of life and most enjoyed whatever they chose to do.Delete
Now there are Supreme Court Judges who can not define a woman. There are people who expect others to buy into their fantasy of what gender they are pretending to be. Many don't even know which public bathroom to use. We now have terms like 'hate speech' and 'disinformation' and 'misgendering,' whatever the hell that is. And I am required to hate my neighbor if he happens to have a different skin tone than mine.
I am not so sure we can climb out of this rabbit hole. Perhaps we are just going to have to live through it, as Pete said. God help us all.
*jmho The INTERNET arrived. I feel as you do, Vicki. I am 79. There is, in my humble opinion, about 30% of the Internet that is good. The other 70% has made people lazy, self absorbed, expecting an easy life. We are already seeing some AI Robots take away jobs from human beings. This is the future.ReplyDelete
I never, ever thought I'd be happy to be 79, but I honestly would never want to live on into the future I see coming.
lynney62...It is my opinion that the internet and computer related stuff is partially to blame for the pickle we find ourselves in today. But I also think that the 'plandemic' and the resulting restrictions, job losses, etc. have a lot to do with the dismal attitudes we see all around us.Delete
I worry about my kids and grands for they are the ones who will have to live through whatever insanity comes their way.
Don't you ever wish you could go back to the 1950's - just for a day, when we didn't have to be afraid of everything and everyone? I do.
Hey Its Rob, Still trying to work out blogger bugs. It does not matter who is running D.C. They all seem to be out get get anyone of us.ReplyDelete
Bitter cold coming stay warm. Sorry I lost touch
Rob...I'm just glad to see you back among us. Take care and bundle up. Hope the bitter cold doesn't last too long!ReplyDelete
I wonder if the young healthcare workers are under restraints to keep conversation light and troublefree so as not to concern older folk. Just a thought.ReplyDelete
Linda...That may be true, but I have had all sorts of conversations with different nurses. This one just lives in her own world of unicorns and fairy dust.Delete
