Quiet Weekend

It was a very quiet weekend here in my little Home Sweet Apartment.  I did a whole lot of nuthin'.

Oh, there were the usual domestic chores that keep one's living space from turning into pig sty.  There were dishes to be washed and  floors to be swept and dust to be removed from furniture surfaces.  But between bouts of domesticity there were mystery novels to be read and movies to be watched and most importantly, naps to be taken.

Youngest Son called and wanted to know what I was doing.  I replied that I was pretty much just being a turnip.  He said he wished he could just be a turnip for a day.  He was busy doing those chores that most folks with jobs do on weekends.  And he was driving his offspring to dance competitions and hockey games.  Makes me appreciate retirement even more.

So I am off to do a couple loads of laundry.  And maybe bake a pan of brownies.  In a world that has gone completely mad, sometimes a pan of brownies is all that stands between us and total insanity.

  1. Usually for me a pan of brownies leads to over-indulgence of milk and brownies and a long session in the bathroom. I found this weekend a solution--a2 milk. Read my post today. My world has been turned right side up with this milk.

I had my bouts of domesticity, too. However, someone helps me some days to figure out where the kitchen is. This weekend, my efforts were mostly piddling since I cannot do much.

    1. Linda...I am glad you found milk that won't mess up your system. I am lucky in that I have no allergies or dietary restrictions. Which means I will, in all likelihood, over-indulge in brownies. That's pretty much what the brownies are for. :)

I can handle the day to day domestic chores. It is only when a job requires strength that I plead for help. That doesn't happen too often. I hate having to ask for help.

    2. LOL, my brownies are loved throughout the neighborhood, some of the women pronouncing that they are better than sex. Being a rude old cowboy, I suggested that it might be a problem with their lovers ;-D

Of course the secret is just high quality chocolate...which has effects that sort of resembles the love hormones like oxytocin and dopamine ;-D

    3. b g...I knew there must be a reason I have lived by the saying, "Just give me the chocolate and nobody gets hurt." :)

Gotta admit, your "rude old cowboy" answer had me laughing!

  2. I baked cookies today. I started my deep spring cleaning and I'm getting burned out from it. I took time off today.

    1. Kristina...Cookies sound good. I have a hankering for chocolate chip cookies to dip into an ice cold glass of milk. Or maybe gingersnaps.

I am so lucky this year that since my kids hired a cleaning service to give my apartment a deep cleaning (best Christmas present ever) I just have to keep up with the day to day stuff. It isn't just the spring cleaning that burns us out. Sometimes it is just the day to day living of life. We all need a day off now and then just to regroup. Glad you could do that. :)

  3. Sounds like a great weekend.
Fortunately, I'm with you Vickie about food.My only requirement is that I get some on a regular basis. No food allergies.
The rain continued here on Saturday morning. So my time in the community gardens was damp but not a horrible rain. Two of my gardens had work days scheduled. All told, I was away from my place just under two hours. I was quite proud that I did not over do. I met some new people and caught up with a few from last year. Sunday I went back to one but only for half an hour. I have snow peas growing in that one and wanted to stake them up. Cheers, SJ

    1. SJ...Sounds like you had a nice weekend too, in spite of the rain. Bravo for not overdoing. If we can go do something we like to do without paying a price the next day, well, that's almost like receiving a really nice gift. Sounds like your gardening is part gardening - part socializing. That is just cool. :) I can almost taste the peas. When I planted English peas I always planted twice what I needed because my then young kids would pick and eat them raw. Couldn't yell at them. I was mostly right there with them.

I have always been grateful that I didn't have to deal with food allergies. On the other hand, if I had a few dietary restrictions I might not be quite so roly-poly!!

  4. I usually don't mind the cleaning chores....but dusting is something I wish never had to be done.
A pan of brownies sounds just right, any day of the week.

    1. Jenn...I don't really mind the cleaning chores, either. Except for swamping out the fridge. I tend to put that one off until some of the leftovers look like science experiments gone bad. :)

You just can't go wrong with brownies. I have been known to have a couple with a glass of milk and call it breakfast.

  5. Your comment about food gave me a case of the giggles - no one ever got me confused with a petite-sized gal. I'm 5'9" and, well, let's just say that both the dog and I could lose a few pounds. hahaha
Good thing I got that gardening done. The rain is back tonight and will be here through Saturday.
And, yes, I planted two kinds of snow peas so far. One matures in 60 days, the other in 70 days. One thing I love about gardening is learning new things.
Part of the fun for me is the socializing. It's tough to meet people in your 60s, really. At least with the garden, there's a common interest right from the start.
Had a great day but am beat. Think I'll have breakfast for dinner and call it good! SJ

    1. SJ...In my family, there are two body types. My Mother's side is tall and thin, her siblings and Dad all having those physical characteristics. My sister takes after that side of the family. I, on the other hand, take after my Dad's side, being short and squat at 5'3". Dad's sisters and Mother all were shaped like pears. I didn't stand a chance. The only light at the end of tunnel is the fact, according to my doctor, that due to this leg thing I am hauling around 15 to 20 lbs. of excess fluid that I can't seem to get rid of. So I can lie to myself and say that the weight is just fluid. The only part I can't work out is that the fluid is mainly in my legs, which doesn't explain the size of my bum. :)

Gardening is just plain fun, isn't it. I learned so much from my Dad. He liked to try new things each year. Giant pumpkins, burpless cucumbers and purple potatoes come to mind. It is nice for you that you can meet people through your garden. I have never been one for much socializing, being naturally something of a loner. But if I didn't have family close by, I likely would be more eager to meet people.

Breakfast for dinner happens fairly often here. But tonite Duane brought home Subway sandwiches for us. Dinner delivered and no cooking. Win - win!!
