We Are Back...

sort of.  Bars and restaurants in my area are finally being allowed to open for indoor service.  Of course, there are still restrictions.  The restrictions have nothing to do with the virus and everything to do with control.  Nobody seemed too worried about 'social distancing' during the protests and riots.  But a restaurant owner had better make sure there are six feet between tables.

I knew the bar next door was open on Wednesday evening when I heard loud voices and the sounds of a scuffle outside my windows.  Looking out, I saw two young men rolling about in the middle of the street, doing their drunken best to smack each other upside their heads.

A few feet off to one side stood a little bit of a young lady, hands on hips, watching the proceedings.  After a couple of minutes, she said in a voice louder and more commanding than I expected to hear from someone who likely didn't weigh much over 100 lbs., "If you two don't stop being stupid, I am going to quarantine you both."

The young men stopped trying to bash each other, got up, dusted themselves off and meekly followed the young lady back into the bar.

Sometimes it is necessary to for me to concentrate on whatever humor can be found.  I keep track of what is going on around me, but if I concentrate only on the total insanity that is sweeping our nation, I will find myself in a pit of depression and I just do not have time for that.

So as I relax in my recliner with my Kindle, I hear voices from the street below.  Two or three young men discussing the attributes of their motorcycles.  A couple of sweet young things discussing the attributes of the boys with the motorcycles.  And the voice of a young man, using his very best pick-up lines on a young lady who obviously is going nowhere with him.

Yep...things seem to be getting back to some sort of normal.

    1. Rob...It is a puzzle, but some of the pieces are missing. We are safe so far, but don't let down your guard.

    1. Gorges...If I never hear the term 'New Normal' again, I will be happy. I was satisfied with my 'old normal.' :)

  3. About the only thing that's gotten back to normal here is the traffic that passes by my house on the semi-rural 2-lane that people have found to be a great bypass around town, and who drive it like it's the Indy Brickyard. Only they and God know where they're going. I've noticed that people are taking out their anxieties on the gas pedal. Makes crossing my road akin to a rodeo clown trying to pull a cowboy out of the arena!

Glad you're still safe and ... asymptomatic...

    1. Pete...There isn't much that is truly normal here, either. After silence on the streets for so long, it was actually kind of nice to hear human voices again, even if they were whiskey fueled. I pray that you and yours remain safe and well.

  4. Hello Vicki! You were able to watch a free show of how stupid people can get under the influence of DEMON RUM! Life has been quiet here. Garden is doing well. I have tomatoes, squash, onions and garlic ripening. My delivery Guy took to heart my warning of food supply issues. He quietly spoke with others he works with and they all stocked up with what their families eat. Those that had space started gardens and joined Community Supported AG groups. His Grandmother is teaching him how to make tortillas and other dishes.

I have another order of grains -Wheat, Oat Groats and Lentils coming. A deep larder is the only thing that makes sense. Be Safe. Red

    1. Red...Usually the bar patrons don't get rowdy. I chalk it up to being let out after months of house arrest. It is all cheap entertainment for me. :)
What a great thing - people actually listening to good advice and acting on it. As time goes on, I think they will be happy they prepared.
Glad to hear your garden is thriving and you were able to add to your stash. I have to wonder how many of those stuck in the area of Seattle that is now 'under new management' were prepared. Pray and prep. Works for me.

  5. Both groceries and prescriptions were delivered this afternoon. I'm liking the delivery services! Still some out of stocks with the grocery order but got almost all of what I ordered.
Question - how do you use oat groats?

    1. SJ~Oat Groats can be cooked in a slow cooker. You can also run them through a grain flaker /roller to turn them into rolled oats most people use in cooking and eating. Red

    2. SJ...Glad the delivery service is working out. I would be up a creek - no paddle without mine.
I was clueless about oat groats. But if anyone knew how to use them, it would be Red. I think she knows everything!

    3. Red- thanks for the information. So you use them to make flaked oats? Like someone uses wheat berries to grind and make wheat flour? Can they be cooked and used as a side dish? Or just rolled and flaked for rolled oats? Thanks, SJ in Vancouver

    4. SJ~ Most grains and beans can be ground into flours and meals. I remember my Dad's Mom flaking oats they had grown on their farm. She also had whole groats simmering on a back burner of her range. I know there are different methods to cook grains either whole or flaked. Red

  6. Vicki, that is good and funny stuff. One of my favorite pastimes is people watching and maybe...evesdropping on the unaware. Usually pretty entertaining and harmless too. Good that your opsec is fun as well as good practice. You take care and enjoy, CW

    1. CW...Sometimes I just have to take a break from the lunacy around us and look for the humor. Luckily, living next door to a bar often makes for some funny stuff. In the 20-plus years I have lived here, I think I have only witnessed a couple of serious fights. The rest I just drunken silliness. :)
