So yesterday...

our Governor Who Would Be King decreed that we Minnesotans have been granted the privilege of dining outdoors at our favorite restaurant.  That's Outdoors.  In Minnesota.  In the middle of December.  Where yesterday's morning temperature was a balmy 7 degrees F.  Sigh.

Anyone with a small amount of common sense can see that even if the tents for dining that were used last summer were set up again and even if heaters were used, we would be hard pressed to drink a cup of coffee before it iced over.

On the bright side, there are some here in my state who have had enough.  Yesterday a list of small business owners was published.  Those business owners are opening for business in defiance of the proclamations from on high.  They are located throughout our state.  They are not merely rebellious.  They are fighting for their lives, for their businesses they have worked so hard to build, to pay their employees, to feed their families, to take care of themselves without government handouts.

Of course the bureaucrats can't have that.  We are supposed to simply comply and never question the decisions of our betters.  A couple of liquor licenses have already been pulled.  Some fines have been handed out.  But even so, more small business owners are signing on every day.

Those who have grown a spine and have made the decision to open their businesses in spite of ridiculous government mandates, have my admiration and support.

Who says you can't fight City Hall!

  1. I wish all the best for them. I pray their fellow citizens stand with them and against the tyranny that doesn't sound too much different than what the colonials experienced from King George. And we all know how that worked out. For the better, but not without the loss of blood.

    1. Jennifer...I find it incredulous that people are suffering over a virus that is treatable and has a recovery rate of over 99%. It is not about a virus. It is about control. Abd that has to stop.

  2. Now is the time to take a stand and action. I am not for use of violence. No, I am for the use of common sense. Take a stand now. Support these businesses and their owners. They are desperately in need of keeping their doors open so we can do just that. Thank you, Vicki. You are doing your part to show support by keeping us informed. CW

    1. Thanks CW...It is way past time to take our lives back. We are being lied to and controlled and I will not live my life under those conditions. Good for those with the guts to take a stand!!

  3. Some restaurants in Houston ignored the mandates, the police refused to get involved, and they are enjoying a booming business.

    1. Jess...Some states boast citizens with common sense and some do not. I have the utmost admiration and respect for those Texans who have the courage of their convictions.

  4. Good for them. Our state needs to do that too. So many families are not getting paychecks and hurting. Meanwhile, the Gov gets his paycheck. The whole thing makes me mad.

    1. Kristina...I have heard of restaurant and bar owners who have mortgaged their homes in order to save their businesses and help their loyal employees and who now face losing both business and home. This has gone way too far and people are mad - and if they aren't. they should be. It is past time to take a stand.

  5. So my question to you is do feel comfortable enough to eat indoors with Covid? A friend of my daughter had thanksgiving which we were asked to not combine families and this friend's mom was sick and passed the virus to her mom who is now dead and husband who is in the hospital. That is ok they have their rights, wonder if the deceased minded.

    1. Cheryl...Your guilt trip is wasted here. I am old. I have several health issues that make me vulnerable to any virus. So as much as I would love to spend time with my family, I don't. Nor do I expect any friends or family to change the way they choose to live just because I have health issues. If a person is comfortable going to a restaurant, they should go. If not, they should stay home. It is a matter of common sense and choice and I am a grownup who doesn't need a bureaucratic nanny telling me what I should or should not do. Every death is sad and to be mourned, but what on earth was your friends' mom thinking when she was close enough to her parents to pass on the virus. Common sense seems to have left the building.

    2. I did it again, didn't I...But I am so very tired of those who try to lay guilt on me if I don't comply and then tell me I'm gonna kill Granny. Bloody hell, Pete - I AM Granny. Sigh.

    3. Way to go, Vicki! You said it much more nicely than I would have.

Cheryl, yes I do feel comfortable dining inside and I do patronize those restaurants that open in defiance of non-legal orders. In addition, I’m eligible for senior discounts and have some health issues (what senior doesn’t these days😉). I simply refuse to live my life in fear. I feel sorry that you do.

    4. Vicki and LTM...I say "ditto" to that! I am a senior with health issues. I had Covid-19 one year ago today. I survived! I continue to go into one or more restaurants each week to support those businesses. Better wake up, Cheryl. You have been had by the Dems!

    5. Thanks LTM...I gotta admit, I am not prone to niceties these days. I don't mind polite, differing opinions. Civil discussion is a good thing. But if they think I am going to buy into snarky guilt, they are sadly mistaken. We have been lied to and manipulated on this virus thing from the get-go and I am way past being tired of it all. Good for you on your support of those with the guts to fight back. We need more to join in before we lose everything, which is close at hand. I am so glad you refuse to live in fear. Me, too!!

  6. A Good to you Vicki! Were every citizen in a State stand up and give the One Fingered Salute then go about their business, with precautions of course, the PTB should issue an "Use Best Judgement" instructions. The Nation did not shut down when Small Pox hit, Cholera, or Spanish/Tibetan Flu in 1918, or every time Polio made itself known. We have ways to deal with anything and a quickie Covid vaccine is not an end all, cure all for the disease. Still drying veggies. My tomato plants have blooms, I have a uncured bacon order being delivered today, plus some Biblical Bread Grain Mix for grinding.

Do not live in Fear for it strips your Free Will and gives others Dominion over You. Red

    1. Thanks Red...I think we may be getting to the point where more are considering ignoring the nannies and getting about the business of living their lives. I can see no benefit from taking a vaccine that hasn't been tested long enough to learn if there are long term side effects especially when there are already several ways to treat the disease. And I will not take a vaccine from a company who has immunity from lawsuits. Does thalidomide ring a bell?

You and I both have had health issues. We could live in fear. We choose not to. We choose to make the best of the time we have.

Why am I not surprised that you are still 'stacking it to the rafters.' :) Me...I have veggies ordered today for canning stew base. And another ham for the freezer - just because. Take good care.

    1. Yep, Gorges...The first one is the one who gets the headlines and pays the fines. But if we wait for someone else to be first, our rights go away while we are waiting.

  8. Quite a few small businesses out here in Nanny Newsom's Neighborhood have had enough, and are opening despite the nanny's lockdown order. From the looks of it, Code Enforcement and the sheriff have had enough too, and aren't bothering these folks! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Newsom locked the state down again due to a "surge" in cases. CA has had a mask mandate in place since March.
No one on CNN questions Mr. Hair Perfect; "If the masks work so well, then why the "surge?" If they don't, then why are they still mandatory? The first lengthy lockdown did nothing to stem the tide of Kung Flu. Why then, another lockdown?"

    Control... It's about control...

    1. A good day to you Pete. If you haven't already done so, sign the Recall Petition for Gruesome. I don't like slavers. He and his lot need to go away. As to the surge, the more covid tests done are counted as cases are counted as positives. Oh Dear The Sky Is Falling. Run, Hide and Obey. Right. Now the better questions would be where is the Federal Covid $$$$$ for Unemployment and the Hospitals? Why haven't People received it yet? Hmmm. Care to answer that one Gruesome. To quote W.C. Fields. Go Away Gavin. Don't bother US anymore. Red

    2. Pete...Your governor is a real jewel. I'll bet he got beat up a lot when he was a kid. That sanctimonious, 'I am better than all you peons' attitude had to be there from birth.

I really am glad to hear that some in your state are standing up for what is right. I am not sure how law enforcement is reacting here, but I tend to think they are not looking too kindly on these restrictions in the home of 'Defund the Police.'

Have you noticed since this 'surge' began, there have been no cases or deaths caused by the regular flu? Amazing. The mandated remedies Do. Not. Work. We are a patient people, but I believe we have been pushed beyond the limit. These little tin gods may get away with their BS in the cities, but the small town and rural folks are smarter than the average bear. I expect to see more pushback on the horizon.

    3. "Sanctimonious" "I'm better than you..." What can one expect from Nancy Pelosi's nephew?

There's been quite a bit of pushback here, Vicki. The MSM would have you believe that everyone in the Wild, Wild West was a fruit, nut, or flake, but get away from places like L.A, and the political landscape changes markedly. Unfortunately, when the "governor" and "legislature" dinner bell every welfare bum and illegal alien into the state, saying "Vote for me, and I'll take care of you," you end up with... The Nanny...

    4. Pete...That 'better than you' attitude must run in that family. The crowning glory of it all was watching Pelosi brag about her expensive freezers full of gourmet ice cream while those in my neighborhood are wondering if they can pay their rent and feed their kids. If there is any justice at all, there is a special place in Hell waiting for them.

We have a similar problem here, Pete. The city dwellers keep voting in those who promise them free stuff while the rural folks are left to their own devices. Of course, Rural Minnesota wants as little to do with government interference in their lives as possible, but sadly, most of the city folks welcome it and there seem to be more of them than there are of us. Even though I live in a suburb, I consider myself a country girl. I am glad, however, to hear about some pushback, for it gives me hope. Governors - yours and mine in particular - have gone a step too far and even some of the lefties are rebelling. I pray it continues.
