So a couple of weeks ago...

I told a friend I was going to give my pressure canner a good scrub and pack it away. I complained to anyone who would listen that I had no more room for food storage. I even went so far as to tell all of you there wasn't another inch of available storage space in my little apartment.

Silly me.

Last week I canned up two cases of assorted meats from my freezer. Last Friday I canned 21 quarts of vegetable soup. My grocery delivery order this week includes 12 lbs. of chicken breast to go with the 12 lbs. already in my freezer. That will probably be canned next week.

Where will I store it all? Haven't a clue. But here is what I do know.

Prices at the grocery and elsewhere continue to rise. Shortages are becoming more obvious. My grocery delivery guy tells me that the big box store where the service shops is showing signs of shelves being not as fully stocked any more and choices in package sizes aren't nearly as plentiful.

Whatever I buy now will cost more later, if it is even available. Whining about no storage space isn't helpful. Looks like I will just have to get more creative about storage.

Buckle up. The ride gets more bumpy every day.

  2. If I were closer, I'd figure a way to get you more storage. Downsizing from that 140 year old farmhouse is making us come up with ideas for stuff.

    And I don't can.

Be safe and God bless, Vicki.

    1. LindaG...Smaller spaces are a challenge, but since much of my storage is home canned food, I just need to be a bit more creative for storage. It does help that I use it on nearly a daily basis. Prices rising and shortages being reported - I just decided now is not the time to back off. Take good care and may God bless you and yours.

  4. Vicki~ I know what you mean. My Husband said he needed some bread flour. I moved a bucket and pulled out two 5 pound bags, and now I have an empty bucket to fill. We broke down really big bags of chocolate and hard candy into quart vacuum bags. That filled a bucket. An order of rice, pasta, beans and other assorted staples has been delivered and stored away.

Tomorrow we will be getting about 120 pounds of cat litter. Can't forget the critters.

I'm wondering if starvation will take out the "Head Stuck in the Sand and the Govt. Will Save US Crowd" first, or the side effects from certain injections. I know the Makers are immune from the liability of those harmed, but the persons requiring, or injecting are not from what I've read. The other item that gives me concern is will any of the companies that provide life insurance payoff the claims for anyone that passes as a result of these injections? It's a horrible thought but these days being prepared for the worst and aware of the FINE PRINT is paramount. Red

    1. Red...Seeing the reports of shortages combined with rising prices are what convinced me that now is not the time to slack off. So I continue to add to my preps with each grocery delivery. Just going to have to be a bit more creative in finding places to stash it. :)

I will never understand how so many believe that government will take care of them. Politicians and bureaucrats care only about the size of their bank accounts and power. I have seen some lawsuits over the mandates, but I think the side effects will have to become obvious to all before anyone is held accountable. 'The worst' seems to be getting closer every day. Those who don't think anything is wrong are in for a rude awakening.

  5. I've read stories on how this has gone up 10% and that has gone up 20%. Where I live, bacon has gone up 110%. Steak has gone up 100% or better. Gas has gone up 50%.
Just wait until the occupant of the White House Memory Care Center starts "taxing the rich..." The only thing rich here is his thinking that those taxes won't be passed down to "dirt people" like you and me!

I'm also noticing the grocers' shelves becoming more Spartan lately. ...And the toilet paper and paper towels... What the hell is it about the toilet paper and paper towels??

Folks, if you're going to want it tomorrow, buy it now!

On another tack, I just got off the ham radio I've known for years. He's never had an issue with blood clots in his life. About a month ago, he took the first of his two Pfizer "vaccine" shots. About two weeks later he was in the hospital with severe pain in his arm. He was rushed into surgery and had a massive blood clot removed. This morning, his doctor as well as two blood specialists confirmed that it was the vaccine that caused the clot and told him NOT to take the second shot. In my entire 60 years of life I've never known anyone or have even known anyone who KNEW anyone who had an adverse reaction to a vaccine. That count is up to four within the space of two months, with this one being the most serious. 'Just putting it out there for "the public good..."

    God bless, Vicki...

    1. Pete...I'm not sure what the percentage rates on price increases are here. But about a month ago I remarked to my grocery delivery guy that my bill was less than normal. He said it was because I hadn't ordered any meat or paper products that time and if I had, my bill would have been considerably higher. He was right as I saw two weeks ago and will most assuredly see again with my Thursday deliver that includes both. I have had an overall increase of about 40% when ordering approximately the same amounts as just three months ago.

I can't remember which shot contains spike proteins, but it could very well be the one that caused the blood clot in your friend. My oldest son did not take the shot, but a couple of years when he was recovering from a stroke, his doctor told him that spike proteins had been found in his blood tests, coming from another unknown source. Spike proteins like to adhere to the walls of blood vessels, causing blood clots. They also attack the organs. Two days before he died, he had a large clot removed from his leg. And it was the same thing that damaged his heart. And this is the poison they insist we take! Is it any wonder why the pharmaceutical companies have been granted immunity from lawsuits? These are not vaccines. They are experimental drugs and somebody is making billions from them and it ain't us.

God bless you and yours, my friend.

  6. If your bed has a box spring under it, you should consider one of these. Other stores sell variations. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Zinus-14-Black-Metal-SmartBase-Tool-Free-Assembly-Mattress-Foundation-Full/15739162?athbdg=L1300

    1. jeff d...I looked up the bed spring you sent the link for. That is basically what I have for my single size bed and underneath is packed full of stuff! I appreciate your telling us about it and perhaps someone who reads this blog will find it useful. Thank you.

  8. Amen Sister! Nothing I read gives me reason to believe we aren't in big trouble. So we do what we can to prepare and we pray!(And we encourage each other!)

    1. sbrgirl...I completely agree with your assessment. Those in charge just keep digging the hole deeper and deeper with no regard for those of us who they are supposed to work for. So yes - prepare and pray. And it helps to know there are others who believe as we do.

  9. Here's an interesting twist on that hole getting deeper. I went to put gas in my car today and there was only one 'type' of gas, not the usual choice of three grades. Only the super premium was available. They did change the price to the 'regular' price.

And at the grocery store a few minutes later. Oh my, sticker shock on the beef. And, I took the last three 1# bags of pinto beans on the shelf. Other shelves had noticeable gaps or just one row of items on the front row of the shelf with no product behind.

    Stay safe everyone.

    1. SJ...The stores here in Minnesota seem to be similar to what you are finding. A 3 lb. bag of frozen chicken breast increased $1 within two weeks. The price of a pound of the cheap bacon I buy for canning has doubled in price over a few months time. My grocery delivery guy tells me our shelves look much like yours. I hate to think of what winter will bring!
      Take good care.

    2. Went to WallyWorld today and the shelves were well stocked and lots of employees actively stocking. Am guessing they're getting ready for the weekend. Got some great prices for here but didn't even peak at the meat department.

    3. SJ...My grocery delivery guy tells me that it is the prices on meat and paper products that send my bill into the stratosphere. There aren't any bare shelves as yet, but some canned goods are getting a bit thin in spots. I wish the sale ads had more stuff that I use and less that I never buy. :)

  10. Where do you find all those canning jars? The jars (and lids) are pretty scarce around here

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ann...Most of the jars I have had for years and am just reusing them. Many of my meals are from home canned foods. I went through my stash of lids and then a friend in Canada sent me a box full and that really helped. In the past couple of months, the store my grocery delivery service uses (Cub Foods) has had jars and lids available, but only a few at a time. I am really lucky that my delivery guy knows I can and has brought me both jars and lids when he finds them at the store. For a long time there were none of either to be found here in southern Minnesota. Now it is sort of hit and miss, so I get them whenever I am able and have to decide what to can and what not to can as I never know if I will be able to get more.
