Paying Attention

When I talk with people who are not in the preparedness community, I quickly learn why we are in such a mess.

Fairly new nurse.  Young.  Cute.  Does a very good job with her duties here.

I thought today I would see if she was aware of a potential railroad workers strike.  Might happen.  Might not.  But if the strike happens, the repercussions could affect us all.  So I asked her if she paid any attention to the news reports.  Her answer was no, she didn't because she was way too busy dealing with her personal life.

I believe this is a response that is way too common.  Granted, we all have personal issues to deal with.  The difference is that we are still able to see beyond the personal and see what is going on in the world around us.  And prepare accordingly.

I wonder of those who think the world revolves around them are going to be able to handle it when they find out it doesn't.

Pray and prepare.  Now more than ever.

  1. The most common response I get is "I don't watch the news." These folks have time to watch whatever "sportzball" is in season, post on Faceplant, tinker with games on their phones, and the like, but won't keep abreast of what's coming at them... or not coming at them... like a freight train. I don't understand the mentality. Even after the Plandemic blindsided them they won't adjust course. It's as if they feel if they don't pay attention to what's going on around them, it isn't really happening. My take is that if half of these people WERE actively engaged in "the process," a lot of what's happening now WOULDN'T be happening! Alas, such is not the case...

...Indeed Vicki, all we can do is prepare ourselves... and pray...

    1. Pete...I am pretty sure that you and I are alike in that we would rather deal with a problem head-on than to ignore it. I have known many who think if they don't talk about a problem will just magically go away. Me...I want to know what the enemy is up to so I can have a counter move ready just in case. Yes...prepare and pray. Vast amounts of each!

  2. You’d think having gone through this “pandemic” would have shaken some people awake about preparedness. It’s scary. Ignorance must really be bliss.

    1. Mandy...Did you notice that throughout the 'pandemic,' there were those who thought themselves righteous because they followed all the mandates to the letter? And yelled at those of us who didn't. I am convinced that many see only what they want to see. Living in a world of unicorns and fairy dust must be wonderful, but I prefer reality, even if it is hard to take at times.

  4. Vicki~ I had one sister tell me she had food for a month. Another that she had six months stored.
I asked what about your pets? Oops. What about several other items? Oops. That sent them scrambling. Red

    1. At least they're scrambling! Too many are watching real life as if it were a movie!

    4. Yup, slow and steady . In 2 weeks I've got 15#rice, a dz cans each beans and diced tomatoes, baking supplies but not flour, 4#pasta and about 3 gallons water. And another bag of dog food. Not too shabby I guess. SJ

  5. Red...So many think only in terms of food. I stocked up again on over-the-counter remedies and vitamins. Shampoo, dishwashing liquid, paper plates, etc. I don't have pets any more, but some of my family members do, so I keep the ingredients for homemade pet food. Pinball had a video on the subject a while back. And water. I can't get out to get water, so I fill saved 2 ltr. soda bottles and empty juice bottles for that purpose. So much more to think about other than food.

  6. Another group of unprepared are many of my Christian friends who remain convinced the Lord will provide...

    1. sbrgirl...I believe the Lord will provide...the knowledge of how to preserve food...the skills needed to take care of our families...possibly the means to get what we need But I also firmly believe that He expects us to do the work. After all, Noah's family was saved, but Noah had to build the ark first.

    2. Indeed, Vicki! God provided His people with manna in the desert... but He didn't put it in their mouths! They had to GATHER IT!

Noah... The original prepper... No one believed him either...

    3. Pete...I just do not understand those people who expect someone else to take care of them. I'm talking about the ones who are perfectly capable but seem to be too lazy to lift a finger. "God will provide." That is just one of many excuses. They will find themselves pretty hungry, I think.

  7. I absolutely love this group! I agree with all of you! I’ve been trying to not worry so much about what’s coming these days EXCEPT as it affects my preparedness plans. Which involves those counter-moves, Vicki..

Stay aware, folks and keep praying.

    1. LTM...I just love this group, too. You all come up with stuff I hadn't thought of and that is a good thing. We can't stop what is coming at us around the next corner, but if we pay attention, we can at least be as ready as possible to face it head on. Keep on prepping and praying. God bless.

  8. I too am very concerned on what will happen. I am trying to stay stocked up, and I am always learning a new idea from you. Thank you for that.

    1. Kristina...Staying stocked up can be a challenge, but well worth the effort. It is those folks who comment here who have the good ideas and I am grateful for them.
