April in Minnesota

This morning Son had a job interview in a suburb north of here.  He said that it was snowing when he got there.  I looked out the window about a half hour ago at 6:30 PM and saw a few flakes in the air.  Enough, already.  In a normal year folks around here are wearing shorts and flip flops by now.  I'm seeing heavy jackets and hoodies in abundance. But I have faith that within a month or two I will probably be complaining just as loud and long about the heat and humidity.   We are never satisfied unless the temperature is in the mid-70's and the sun is shining.  I wonder which day that will happen.

Oh, by the way...Son's job interview went really well.  As soon as the drug test results come back and the company checks out his references, it looks good for him to be employed at just the kind of job he has been looking for.  He is happy about it and greatly relieved.  His instincts were correct when he decided to come back home.  Always believe in your gut feeling, I think.

So what with cold temperatures, snow flakes in the air and being a generally gloomy day, it seemed a good idea to bake some bread.  The fact that I had about half a loaf left in the house influenced that decision.  Three loaves, two dozen buns and a pan of cinnamon rolls are cooling on the kitchen table.  Of course some of it had to be taste tested right away.  If it isn't the law, it is at the very least the rule of this household that at least some bread must be consumed right out of the oven.  So we did.  :)

  1. I'll pray that your son gets the job. As for the cold weather, you just KNOW it's global warming!

  2. Gorges...We're praying, too. Thanks. He should know by the end of the week.
As for the weather - can't be global warming, considering that I had to break out the flannel shirt today! They have to call it climate change or own up to being a pack of liars.. There is nothing here that's warm! (big grin)

  3. It snowed here yesterday too, and Monday it was snowing up in St Cloud and north. Yesterday I saw a Ag Service tractor out putting down seed or fertilizer and it was blowing around faster then it was hitting the ground.

  4. Rob...I am so done with winter. Not that it was all that bad - no major blizzards or weeks of sub zero temps. It's just that it seems to keep on and on and on. Kinda like the Energizer Bunny! ;)

  5. I hope the job comes through. That's a big source of concern for people today, and finding one you like is rare indeed.

  6. Harry...He got a call yesterday telling him that they were just waiting to hear from his references, so it looks good. This morning he heard that the malting company just a few blocks from where I live is expanding to include a large warehouse, which is right up his alley as he has 8 years forklift experience. That may not happen for a while, but we talked about it, and I'm going to talk to my landlord so that if an apartment comes available in my building, Duane will have first crack at it. It may be a year before the malting plant job is available, if it happens, but there is always a chance. This area has its faults, being close to Minneapolis, but the job market is good.

  7. One thing about Mn, any down turn never last very long compared to other states. I'm glad #1 is getting up to speed again.

  8. Rob...Thanks. I'm glad, too. He has had a kind of rough go of it what with not being to find a permanent job in AZ or NV. Didn't take very long here, tho. You are right about MN. Seems like a person can find work here no matter what. The last jobs I had were within walking distance. That's almost unheard of elsewhere.
