A while back I had started some herbs from seed in little grow pots. When the plants were big enough I transplanted them into seven large pots and set them on my windowsills. At which point they all keeled over and died.
Because I have a stubborn streak and do not give up easily, I replanted the herbs directly into the large pots. I watered the seeds in and set the pots back on the windowsills. And lo and behold, I have seven pots, each with green, growing plants. Two pots of parsley. One each of thyme, basil, sage, cilantro and oregano. The oregano is slow to sprout, but this morning I found half a dozen tiny plants poking through the soil. That counts, doesn't it?
Every third day I give each pot a drink of a pint of water. They seem to be thriving on that. And I stuck up a sign where I will see it every day that says, "Don't murder them. Water them."
Now if I can just keep them alive.....

I think we all tend to water either too much or too little.
ReplyDeleteGorges...I have drowned a few plants, but mostly I get busy and forget to water them. That's why I put up the sign. Maybe I will remember this time. :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful to snip a few leaves of fresh herbs! I grow them in the Winter on my windowsill, too!
ReplyDeleteChickenmom...I usually kill them off before they are big enough to use. So I'm hoping to keep them alive this time. One pot of parsley is nearly big enough to use. I'm so excited!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent! Most of my herbs have done well this summer.
ReplyDeleteLisa...I am amazed that I haven't killed them as yet! Usually I buy my herbs at the Farmer's Market and dehydrate them. With any kind of luck, I won't need to do that this year.
ReplyDeleteSo you can grow pot indoors. We won't tell the Feds....
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rob...You're all heart! Kinda doubt my parsley will cause much of a stir within the law community. :)
ReplyDeleteMy wife had some herbs in cups before she left to visit the kids. I have been dutifully watering them but last night the cat got up on the counter and ate them. So far he hasn't fallen down dead....
ReplyDeleteOh no, Harry...I'm not surprised though. I used to have a cat who would eat any plant I had. Didn't kill him, either. Although I suspect in his case it was probably pure orneriness keeping him alive. :)
