It Is a Combination of Things

It seems that my muse opened the door to my apartment, took a hard right, galloped down the stairs and flung itself out into the street.  There must be a reason for that.  I have decided that there are several reasons why I can't seem to find anything to write about.

The most obvious is that it is February in Minnesota.  The sun has stayed hidden for days at a time.  It is cold.  Today the temp is holding at 13 degrees, falling close to zero at night.  Last week we enjoyed a heat wave in the mid-forty degree range.  St. Paul holds their Winter Carnival the last week of January and the first week of February.  They build a huge ice palace and have ice and snow sculpture contests.  Last week the sculptures were melting.  This week folks are dressed in snowmobile suits and felt lined boots.

I am just plain tired.  Not so much sleepy tired but more worn down.  I was tired of politics long before the election.  And now that the inauguration has come and gone, I am even more tired of the childish behavior of those on the left who are acting like spoiled toddlers throwing the mother of all temper tantrums.  You lost.  Deal with it.

And to top it all off, there was the March of the Pink Pussy Hats.  Really?  You think those stupid hats are going to make me take your causes seriously?  Especially when you add to the mix a gaggle of foul mouthed celebrities?  I don't think so.

Well, now that I have turned this post into a bit of a rant, I believe I shall go take a nap.  After which I will likely be back to my normal posts.

Sometimes it helps to just blow off some steam.

  1. Right there with on both the weather and your rant. About the latter, I heard an interview with Franklin Graham who basically said what do you expect from a generation where everyone received a soccer trophy? His comment really hit home for me and mirrored my own sentiments.
Jumping off the soap box. Going out with friends tonight to a play put on by the community theater. We intentionally go opening night for the cheap tickets and the hilarious 'dress rehearsal' atmosphere. Something always goes wrong.

  2. Anyone who is in their right mind is in total agreement with you. Those who are in their "left mind" ... well, what can I say? I feel the very same way as you, Vicki. Thank goodness for the remote! I am close to finishing my third book of the new year and just put the last piece in a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle in about a week's time. Those are two of my favorite winter activities that keep me busy until I can start planting my garden.Thank you for making me smile...again! CW from Iowa

  3. I know the feeling about not finding anything to write about. I posted a recipe. I must really be scraping the inspirational barrel for post material.

  4. I totally understand as I'm feeling the same way... I can take the cold of winter but the no sun part has me feeling as gray as the day. As for politics I'm with you on that soap box... it is unbelieveable how childish the left is being. I've made the mistake of trying to discuss things with certain people on Instagram and what do you know... the liberal tolerant open-minded person (the illustrator Mary Engelbreit) blocked me from her feed when she couldn't counter my facts... oh well... it is good to know that there are plenty of people who see things the way we do... take care...Spring can't come soon enough!

  7. You'll get your groove back soon. It's the weather. Those crazies in the cat hats don't know any better. Most of them are in their 20's. With Obama in office for 8 years, and with progressive University professors, they truly believe this is how the world works. I get angry when the called the teapartiers filthy names, when all we did was protest...not riot like the Berkeley babies. Burning stuff...breaking windows and causing chaos...I am curious as how much Berkeley tuition is; and who is paying theres. I've been taking to reading stories from the Great Depression, and some of my ancestors stories (the Amish) when they first arrived.

  8. SJ...Seems like this time of year, at least here in the north, makes a person sort of sluggish. Has that effect on me sometimes, anyway.

Franklin Graham was right. I am so grateful that my grands are being raised to know that if they want something, they must work for it. I think part of the problem is that many of those kids have never been told "No." So they do what they have done all their lives - make demands and throw tantrums until they get what they want. Sad, really.

Enjoy your night out. Sounds like lots of fun.

  9. I disagree with your politics but I'm not going to try to change your mind. That rarely works.

I just want to point out that when the previous president won, those on the right didn't just "deal with it", they obstructed and fought tooth and nail. I'm not sure why you would expect anything different this time around.

  10. CW...My son was here earlier and we were talking about that "left mind" thing. There is a person I have known for 60 years - a good and kind person - except when it comes to Trump's winning the election. I am amazed at the anger and viciousness that comes from this person now. It kind of scares me, for never in the world did I see it coming.

If I had room here in my little apartment for another table, there would be a jigsaw puzzle on it. Loved working on them when I was younger. I don't worry about a remote - I no longer have a TV. My computer works just fine for news and entertainment, but mostly I, too, have my nose in a book. :)

  11. BW...Sorry, but my chili has to have kidney beans in it. We can still be friends, though. :)
Most times I have no problem finding things to write about. But once in a while it is a stretch and I have been known to go the recipe route, too.

  12. carol fun...Even though I rarely go outdoors these days when there is ice and snow everywhere, I still really miss the sunshine, even if I see it only through my windows. Things just seem better on a sunshiny day.

I'm not on Instagram, but am on Facebook. I rarely post there, though. I mostly use it to keep track of kids and grands and snag their pictures. If something really ticks me off, I will do a bit of a rant here on my blog. I will say, though, that never in my memory have I seen as much hatred and viciousness surrounding a presidential election as I have seen this time. I have held onto the hope that we could once again be "one nation." But that hope is fading fast.

    I vote for Spring, too!!

  13. Rob...Keep in mind that we old ladies aren't real happy about being old. And we have had lots of time to work up to being mean and cranky. So you think you are safe? Duck and run, my friend. Duck and run. :)

  14. Amish Heart...It seems as though some of the protestors think that by making demands and breaking glass and setting fires, they will get what they want. It just doesn't work that way. It amazes me that, for instance, those who rioted at Berkeley over someone giving a speech that didn't agree with their point of view, don't understand the concept of free speech.

Funny you should mention stories from the Great Depression. Lately I have been watching videos on YouTube about the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, partly to see what life was really like then and how those things affected people. It is interesting to me to see how so many were able to cope with the situations back then. I think that if there was a SHTF situation, the Amish are better equipped to handle it than most. They are already living a lifestyle that most people would have a hard time with because most people consider their luxuries as necessities. I think the Mormons would be better off as well. I knew a family of Mormons years ago who had a food storage system that puts mine to shame. We could learn quite a lot from both.

  15. Gorges...The bears have the right idea. Just go to sleep at the first snowfall and stay asleep until spring. Works for me. :)

  16. Anon...We can politely agree to disagree on the subject of our politics.

I didn't expect anything different this time concerning the political obstruction and fighting between the left and the right. That is what politicians on both sides of the isle do and they have been doing it for years and they do it well. What did surprise me is the hatred and the violence that came before the election and afterward. Aside from the Democratic Convention in Chicago in the late 1960's, there is nothing in my memory to equal it. I fear that no matter who is in charge, our country is broken. I'm not so sure any more that it can be fixed.
