an absolutely perfect day comes along. Yesterday was one of those and today is shaping up to be more of the same. The sun is shining which is welcome after a considerable amount of rain earlier in the week. Temps are dropping to the mid-50's at night and staying under 75 degrees during the day. It is a relief after the hot summer days.
I have bags of frozen peas and several pounds of butter thawing to be canned tomorrow. If all goes well, on Monday I hope to cook down several bags of frozen apple slices for applesauce to can.
A few months ago I decided I needed a Mr. Coffee coffeemaker. I had been using this to make coffee.
My Dad gave me that old drip coffee pot years ago when I didn't have a coffee pot. My parents bought it right after they married - 73 years ago. That old pot makes better coffee than the new one does. The new one is now on a shelf. The old one is still producing really good coffee, which is important to someone like me who considers coffee the 'elixor of life.'
And now I believe it is time for a short nap, after which I may sit out on the deck and crochet for awhile. It is just too pretty a day to be indoors. :)

ReplyDeleteI have the same coffee pot. Stainless Steel, easy to clean and it works if the power goes out.
Red
Red...I don't know why I thought I needed new coffee pot. Got lazy about boiling water for coffee, I suppose. Won't be making that mistake again. :)
DeleteLOL...those shiny new things are tempting. So, you are going to take back the new one? I have bought a few things like that and wondered what I was thinking. Then, I recovered my money and the space the new thing was taking up on the shelf. Those temps sound amazing. It is definitely a day to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteLinda...I don't have the box it came in or the receipt, and I think I have had it and used it for way too long to return. I will just keep it for a spare or if one of the kids needs one. It is nothing fancy and was cheap, so I am not out very much.
DeleteThe last two days have been wonderful. The forecast is for more of the same. I like it! :) By the way....Happy Birthday!!
The old coffee pots are the best. Add water, coffee, put on stove. The whole house smells like coffee.
ReplyDeleteRob...The old coffee pots last longer, too. I can't imagine a new one lasting over 70 years! And the coffee, in my humble opinion, tastes better. :)
DeleteNewer isn't usually better, imo. And no worries about breaking any glass with the one from your Dad.
ReplyDeleteAll is well here. It's even drizzling rain at the moment. My zucchini are still producing as well. Need to plant some fall quick crops. I think I can squeak in some more lettuce and radish.
Will be going to the 'food bank' garden plot this morning to volunteer some time. It's always fun. Then home to read and watch dvds. Mr Dog is also enjoying the cooler weather. He had several hot spots flare but is now on the mend.
Cheers, SJ
SJ...Sometimes I think that everything these days from cars to coffee pots are made to be disposable. I love my kitchen gadgets, but often times find myself using the old tried and true methods of preparing food and the gadgets collect dust on the shelf.
DeleteWhat happened to summer? Seems like just yesterday you were putting the first seeds in the ground. If I remember right, the zucchini always produced well no matter if the rest of the garden did poorly. So well that after a while you couldn't even give it all away.
Sounds like a lovely way to spend a Saturday. Glad to hear both you and Mr. Dog are doing well. If I had to wear a fur coat all the time, I think I would be happy with cooler weather, too. :)
A good cup of coffee is important.
ReplyDeleteBW...A good cup of coffee is essential to my happiness and well being. It is one of those simple pleasures that make life worth living. :)
Deleteglad you have a deck.
ReplyDeleteraining here but the cool is a relief.
apparently two fronts are meeting here and we get southern rain and western rain.
deborah...My building has a communal deck with the scenic overlook of the parking lot for the bar next door. However, it is usually quiet during the week and a pleasant place to get some sunshine. The landlord keeps a small table and some chairs there, so it is nice for reading or crocheting or sewing.
DeleteEarlier this week we had a day where it rained literally all day and into the night. But it brought in the cool air and that is a good thing.
just saw that the kavanaugh 'protesters' were paid to protest by a soros' operative.
ReplyDeleteyou were right.
I had read that many of the so-called protesters at various venues were paid. Makes sense to me. I know when I was still in the working world, I could not afford to take time off to attend a protest for the cause du jour, especially if it was during the work week. Seems to me that those who do must not have regular jobs. And if they are too lazy to work, they aren't going to protest for free.
DeleteI often wonder how that David Hogg kid - the one from the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting - can afford to go on his 'ban the guns' tour with several other like minded students. Either his parents are incredibly wealthy or he is being bankrolled by someone with an agenda. Personally, he irritates me. That a still wet behind the ears kid who hasn't lived long enough yet to know anything about the real world should try to tell me about firearms is offensive, to say the least. (soapbox kicked into corner now.)
