It is a quiet day in the neighborhood today. I am occupied with the usual chores that keep my apartment livable - washing dishes - putting away yesterday's canned soup - vacuuming - etc.
It is finally looking like Spring. The temperature reached 65 degrees this afternoon and the forecast is for more of the same. Brown is no longer the predominate color. Everywhere I look there is green grass and green leaves coming out on the trees. We didn't have a bad winter. But it just seemed to last so long. Spring is very welcome. Soon I will be able to open my windows and let that lovely spring breeze in.
I read an article the other day that made me laugh. It seems that Harvard Law School has stopped the practice of charging a late fee for overdue library books. The reason for this is that it is way too stressful for the precious snowflakes to have to worry about overdue library fees. Really? Overdue book fees are too stressful? Good grief. How in the name of all that is good and holy are those people going to handle the stress of everyday living. Not to mention the stress that goes along with their chosen profession of Attorney at Law. If I should ever need a good attorney, I'm pretty sure I would want one who wasn't stressed by overdue library fees.
So I am off to the kitchen to fix me a bit of supper. I'm thinking some homemade chicken nuggets and a bowl of coleslaw. With a dish of banana pudding for dessert. Works for me!

Glad things are greening up for you. We've already used the AC a few times in the last couple months, but it's supposed to get down to 55 on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteGorges...I'm just happy there is no more snow in the forecast. Parts of MN had snow earlier this week. Wasn't much, but I would rather see the color green!
DeleteWarming up here too! Currently 20C (68F) at 8pm! Not sure who coined the term snowflake but it sure fits...lol
ReplyDeleteJenn...The weather guessers here say temps in the mid 60's for at least a week. I hope they are right this time. I have had enough of cold and rain.
DeleteI'm not sure where the term 'snowflake' came from, but it sure does fit those delicate little flowers who need safe spaces and are all worried about microaggressions. Unless they grow up and face reality, they will never be able to function in society. I wonder who ties their shoes for them each morning. :)
A comment in one post somewhere wondered why the post author would use a racist term like snowflake. She also wondered why the person was termed a snowflake. She is probably stressed by library fees, too. If library overdue fees were my greatest stressor, I would feel I was leading a charmed life.
ReplyDeleteLinda...It is my understanding that the term 'snowflake' refers to those college aged students who are unable to deal with the real world and are offended by anything that differs from their own opinions. They can usually be found huddled in their safe spaces. I have to wonder how that commentor you mentioned figures that snowflake equals racist. I guess if that person can not find a good argument to back up their beliefs, tossing out the race card is all they have. Pathetic, really. :)
DeleteIt surely would be nice if the only stress in our lives was overdue library fees. I honestly don't know how the snowflakes are going to survive when they leave school and discover there are no safe spaces in the real world and nobody cares if they are offended. Gonna be a shock to the system, I think.
Ha, I had to laugh about the library fees. I have had many over the last 3 weeks due to my daughter borrowing my car.
ReplyDeleteKristina...I'm guessing you didn't get all stressed over a few overdue books. :)
DeleteI am continually amazed at the lengths these snowflakes go to in order to avoid the real world where the rest of us live.
Quiet days are good. So glad your weather is improving.
ReplyDeleteYour post reminded me of my college job in the library. I was on the circulation desk in the 80s. The school didn't charge late fees either. If enough time elapsed, however, they'd charge for the entire cost of the book plus a processing fee per book. It was great training for me in dealing with irate customers. Let's just say that most people had bills that ran for pages. If the customer was reasonable, the supervisor would knock the bill down to the processing fee per book. If not, well, they could just pay the whole book. And the bill eventually got paid because either the student couldn't register for more classes or couldn't graduate. Those were the days....
Off to the garden soon. It's a sunny day here in between rain storms. Have to tend to the weeds and, hopefully, harvest some more asparagus.
Cheers, SJ
SJ...I am so enjoying the warmer temps and sunshine!! I think it may get warm enough for me to open a window or two and let in that lovely, fresh spring air.
DeleteSounds to me like your college library came up with a good solution to the overdue book problem. Can you imagine what would happen if those poor, stressed out snowflake students of today were confronted with the option of paying or forget about registering for classes or graduating? Once they ventured out of their safe spaces, protests would be held, a list of demands would be submitted to the administration and tears would be shed at the unfairness of it all. :)
Glad you are able to get in you garden. The asparagus won't hit the Market for a few weeks, but I hope to get enough to can a few half pint jars. I'm the only one who likes it, so it will be mine - all mine (insert evil laugh here). Enjoy your day of dirt digging!
