Ah, Spring.......

Duane posted these pictures on FB this morning.  They were taken just a few blocks from our apartments where he is house sitting and puppy sitting for a friend.

And these represent the prevailing attitude here today.

Sigh.

  2. when we lived in florida--land of bugs-- friend said he had moved there because he was shovelling his car out of the snow in sears parking lot in chicago when, like the prodigal son, he came to his senses and realized that the usa has snow free areas!! they moved tout suite and he loved it there

    1. deb...Smart man, your friend! I have lived in snow free areas at one time or another, but always came back home in the end. Kids and grands will do that to a person, I guess. :)

  3. Yup...it happens! A spring tease and then POW! Those of us down south of you were blessed...only about a half inch of rain. We have had our share of high winds though.

Thank you for all of the great recipes for mixes. I am adding them in my little notebook to reference in the event we are unable to use the internet. They will be much better than store bought pre-made items too.

Today was bread baking day. I had two little neighborhood girls stop in to collect money for a school project. When they stepped into the house they said my house smelled really good. I showed them the bread, and told them I mixed the dough and baked it. Well, they said they sure didn't know you could make bread at home. When they get a little older I'll have to invite them over for a lesson on bread making :). Take care and prepare, CW

    1. CW...Glad to hear you didn't get all the snow. We have had snow and sleet and wind since yesterday morning. On the up side, I don't have to go out in it or shovel any of it and it should melt by next week. Enough, already!!

You are welcome on the recipes. I don't post them unless I have used them. I think of them as sort of a backup for the loss of internet scenario. And the loss of power and all that. I think the time will come when we will need whatever will make life just a little bit easier for us.

Great minds do think alike. :) I baked three loaves of bread today - one to use and two for the freezer. I cheated though and used my bread machine to mix and knead the dough. Tomorrow may see a pan of buns and some cinnamon rolls. Isn't it funny that the little girls who came to your house didn't know bread could be made at home. Maybe funny isn't the right word. Maybe 'sad' is. My generation took it for granted that when we were running low on bread, we just got out the flour and yeast and made more. It is a bit scary when I stop and think of how many other old time skills have been lost. How on earth are people going to cope if they don't know how to do anything for themselves? (Kicking my soapbox back out of the way.)

Stay warm. I still have faith that spring will arrive - someday!!
