One of the nice things about retirement is that you don't have to do anything constructive if you don't want to. Today I didn't want to.
My daughter and granddaughter stopped in to see me this morning. Nicki is excited about her trip. She has some sort of a heart shaped sticker on her leg. She will remove it when she gets home so she can see just how much of a tan she gets in the Florida sunshine. She makes me laugh!
My daughter likes to shop in my pantry now and then. She made off with canned beef, potatoes, carrots and peas and a jar of tomatoes that will all be put together and made into a beef stew. Canned peaches and pears also found their way into the box that held the stew fixings. I am glad that my kids want to eat what I have canned. But then, Moms always like to feed their kids, no matter how old they get!
It has just been sort of a lazy day otherwise, with a good deal of it spent curled up with a cup of coffee and my Kindle. I did venture outside for a while. The temperature here is close to 50 degrees. I have opened some windows a bit. It is so nice to be able to do that, and the fresh air flowing into the apartment is wonderful.
That's about all that's going on here today, and it is enough for me. I will probably find some ambition tomorrow and get back to doing the things that usually occupy my time and energy. But for now, I will refill my cup and read another chapter. And love every minute of it.

I too have been outside with out a heavy coat. I have a window in the kitchen open for some fresh air. Its nice to be done with the bitter cold. Time to think spring and summer. Enjoy your days of retirement, I try to.
ReplyDeleteRob...As long as the temps stay above freezing during these March days, I am deliriously happy! Any day that I can crack a window open is a bonus. Yes.....think spring!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could show them the back of my neck, after years of the sun. They would put on sun screen and hide under an umbrella.
ReplyDeleteI think there is hope. I have never seen her with a deep tan and as far as I know, she stays out of tanning booths. Maybe if I tell her that if she tans, her face will wind up as wrinkled as mine, it might just scare her!
ReplyDeleteI've had some days like that while unemployed, too. Guess every cloud has it's silver lining, as they say.
ReplyDeleteGorges.....Some days I have lots of energy and other days...not so much. It is really nice to have the option of going at top speed or just kicking back with a book. For many years there was no choice, which is probably why I so enjoy a day like today once in a while.
ReplyDeleteTonight, if I can stay awake, is Kindle time too. I second Jesse...suntans are not cool..it will kill you. Serious.
ReplyDeleteStephen...You were right. I love my new Kindle. I'm not big on electronic gadgets, but I think this one was really worth it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and Jess on the suntans. Nicki's mom has always been an advocate of sun screen for herself and the kids. Nicki and her friend plan to spend time on the beach and she is bound to pick up a little bit of color. If she was one of those who worked at tanning, I would worry.
I wish I was going to Florida, it's been a long time since I made a trip down there. Hope she has a good time and comes back safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Harry...I'm sure she will have a great time. I've never seen Florida, so I wish I was going, too!
ReplyDelete"My daughter likes to shop in my pantry..." LOL
ReplyDeleteShe's lucky she has a mum who cans. Does she?
Dani....Neither of my daughters has shown any interest in food preservation. My oldest son provides meat and produce. I do the canning and we split the finished product. My youngest son has a small garden. His kids help with the garden and with canning salsa and pickles and tomatoes. He has shown an interest in canning meat and will probably invest in a pressure canner this year. They all grew up eating home canning. I guess it is just a difference in personalities and priorities. I can and dehydrate enough so none of them will go hungry...ever. That's what moms do!
