Looking Good

I hope I'm not celebrating too soon, but it seems that Lily the Yorkie is much improved.  The nasty stuff at both ends has stopped.  She spent the better part of the past two weeks sleeping, and today she is alert, barking at whatever she perceives as a threat to her food dish and is following me around like, well, a puppy dog.  Wherever I am, that's where she is.  I have to be really careful not to trip over her.  I won't complain about that one bit.  For a while there I thought I would lose her, and it wouldn't have been surprising considering her age and the fact that a dog that starts out at 9 lbs really doesn't have any weight reserves when it gets sick.  She is skinny, but has an appetite now.  I have spent time today holding and cuddling and petting and telling her what a good girl she is, even though for the most part, she is not.  She is mouthy and can be obnoxious and wakes me up before sunrise to give her a treat and tries to chew on the landlord's ankles whenever he stops in.

And I would be kinda lost without her.

  1. Very good. Just in case there is an old black stray cat hanging around our back yard. I'd be more than pleased to box and it ship the critter if you'd want it. Free. Really...I'll throw in a bag of cat food.

  3. Stephen.....Thanks just the same. I still have another Yorkie and a fat cat to contend with. I have made a promise to myself to refrain from dragging home any more animals, as has been my habit over the years! Anyway, a Florida cat would probably freeze to death in this climate! The bag of cat food almost clinched the deal, though.

  4. I'm glad to hear that your little dog is better. We had black and tan Dachshund for 15 years and it like to killed us when we lost her. We went dogless for about a year, but have now had a long-haired dachshund for 4 years. A house without a dog just isn't a home!

  5. Thanks, Gorges. I am really relieved that she is getting better. I've had dogs nearly my whole life. And now that I live alone, the two Yorkies are really lots of company. And they make me laugh, which is probably the most important part! I hear that dachshunds are wonderful little dogs. Never had one, but have known folks who have, and they were as silly in love with them as I am with my two.

  6. She's hanging close to let you know she was scared too.

Taking care of her in her old age is a good thing. It's repaying the loyalty she showed over the years.

  7. Jess, I think you are right. She won't even sleep if I'm out of the room where her bed is.

My dogs have made my life happier for quite some time. It is only right that I care for them when they need it the most. I won't let them suffer, but I won't abandon them either, just because it is inconvenient or messy when they are old and sick.
